Robert Rixon, aged 75, from Porthcawl, abused his position as a swimming instructor to sexually assault five young girls aged between 11 and 13. The first offences occurred at Porthcawl Comprehensive between 2000 and 2005 against three girls. Between 2013 and 2015, he hired a pool at Heronsbridge School in Bridgend to run a lifesaving club, where he assaulted two more girls around 2015. An investigation launched in 2018 after one victim came forward identified four other victims, leading to 28 charges including rape.

Found guilty of 28 charges of sexual assault including one of rape. DC Tony Daniel paid tribute to the victims' bravery.

An investigation began in 2019 after one business's new accountants discovered irregularities in their books.

Jamie Gray, 23, of Garden Suburbs, Pontywaun, was driving a borrowed BMW at almost 70mph in a 30mph zone on Penmaen Road between Oakdale and Pontllanfraith in the early hours of Sunday July 17, 2022, when he struck and killed 27-year-old Ian Hamilton. Hamilton, from Bristol, was visiting family in the area and was last seen walking from the bus station in Blackwood. Police traced the vehicle by examining tiny pieces of plastic at the scene.

Admitted causing death by dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident. Was on bail for alleged drink-driving at the time of the collision. Four year driving ban upon release.

Ethan Strickland, 19, from Clos Briallen, Caerau, Cardiff, was involved in the robbery of Ryan O'Connor on June 10, 2021, in the Alway area of Newport. He was armed with a knife and a balaclava, driven from Cardiff in a stolen Ford Fiesta. Although he knew some incident would occur, co-defendants Joseph Jeremy and Lewis Aquilina murdered O'Connor by stabbing him five times, including wounds to the lung and heart, and stole his Gucci bag. Strickland drove part of the way back to Cardiff, collided with railings during a police chase in Glyn Collen, Pentwyn, fled, and disposed of his knife before arrest. He was also involved in supplying crack cocaine from August 30, 2020, to March 13, 2021, with 19 wraps (3.39g) and 26.2g wholesale quantity (£2,600) found in his bedroom, along with phone messages relating to drug sales.

Found guilty of robbery following a trial. On bail at the time for drug offences. Pleaded not guilty to robbery but convicted by jury. Described as the most naïve and immature of co-defendants. Genuinely distressed upon learning of victim's death.

Emma Flower, 39, stole a vulnerable woman's bank card and drained her account of £16,000 until it was empty. She was employed as a carer for New Directions Care and Support and was responsible for providing care to a woman who suffered from learning difficulties, was illiterate, had arthritis and was wheelchair bound. While the defendant's duties included helping the victim with her shopping, she was not authorised to use or take possession of her bank card. Despite this she took the woman's card and withdrew funds over a six month period. The fraud came to light when another carer noticed there was a lack of food or heating in the victim's home and when her bank statements were checked, there had been a number of withdrawals from her account. The defendant, of Hillside Avenue, Blaenavon, was seen on CCTV footage using the victim's card to withdraw money from her account from a cash machine at an Abergavenny garage.

Antonio Oracko, 19, from Cathays, was a passenger in a black BMW 1 series with suspected cloned number plates in the Riverside area of Cardiff on Wednesday, August 2 at around 4.50pm. Officers from South Wales Police Roads Policing Team attempted to stop the vehicle at traffic lights on Clare Road. The driver tried to make off by driving forward and then reversing at speed, colliding with two other cars. No one was injured. Oracko ran off but was detained a short distance away. He was in possession of £454, and a mobile phone containing messages about the supply of Class A drugs was found in the car. A blue package containing numerous wraps of Class A drugs was found close to the car, and further items linked to drug dealing such as tick lists, digital scales, white powder, seal bags, and mobile phones were seized from their home addresses.

Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin, and breach of a previous sentence.

Rhian Horsey, 55, stole up to £300,000 from a 100-year-old woman between 2011 and 2017. She cared for her victim in Cardiff and was trusted to use her credit cards to withdraw cash on her behalf. The defendant, of Y Park, Groesfaen, Pontyclun, abused her position of trust to carry out sudden and significant withdrawals of thousands of pounds and pocketed the cash, which she used to spend on luxury holidays for her and her family. She also falsified cheques which she paid to herself and made bank transfers from Mrs Sansom's account to her own account. The theft came to light after Mrs Sansom's daughter Kathryn Taylor became concerned at the frequency and amounts of cash withdrawals from her mother's account and investigated the matter.

Esaam Alyas, 21, of Cardiff, breached a restraining order by contacting and assaulting his teenage ex-girlfriend multiple times in 2019. On April 31, 2019, he forced her into his car, drove to Roath Park Lake, verbally abused her, and strangled her by choking her neck until she couldn't breathe, then justified it as teaching her a lesson. On May 6, 2019, he smashed her phone in a jealous rage after seeing a message from a boy, slapped her full force, threatened her and her family with a knife, and threatened to throw ammonia in her face to 'ruin her life'. He fled to Barcelona without permission, worked as a waiter, and returned in February 2021 after seeing a police appeal, where he was arrested at Heathrow Airport.

Pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order and criminal damage. Prior convictions for possessing a bladed article, harassment, and drugs matters. Made subject to a restraining order preventing contact with the victim until further order.

Jasmine Black, 31, set up online banking facilities for the accounts of two vulnerable women she was looking after and used it to steal their money. The victims, who are in their 90s and have dementia, and who do not use the internet, were completely unaware somebody was accessing their accounts. The thefts only came to light when the family of one of the victims noticed withdrawals from her account which she could not have carried out, and alerted the firm carer Jasmine Black worked for. Police were then contacted, but the defendant denied doing anything wrong - despite the log-in details for one of her client's bank account being found at her home. The defendant, of Clos Tyniad Glo, Barry, transferred money from her clients' accounts to her own in a series of payments - in total she stole £1,999 from one victim, and £476 from the other.

He failed to comply with a legal notice to clear the site, posing a fire risk and leaving landowners with clean-up costs.

David Braddon carried out a merciless, sustained, and brutal attack on 18-year-old Conner Marshall at Trecco Bay caravan park in Porthcawl on March 8, 2015. Braddon, who was on probation for drugs offences and assaulting a police officer at the time and had previous convictions for domestic abuse, hit Conner with a pole, kicked him in the face and ribs, stripped him naked to humiliate him, delivered an uppercut that caused him to strike his head on concrete, and left him to die under a caravan. Conner, who had been enjoying an evening with friends and went for a walk along the beach to take pictures, was discovered the next morning with severe head injuries, taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff in a coma suffering from hypothermia, brain swelling, eye haemorrhage, and a forehead cut, and died four days later on March 12, 2015.

Sentenced in 2015 for the murder of Conner Marshall. Pleaded guilty to prior charges of entering into/being concerned in the acquisition/retention/use or control of criminal property and possessing a mobile phone in prison, but sentencing adjourned pending trial of co-defendants.

He hit Conner with a pole, kicked him in the face and ribs, stripped off his clothes, and left him severely injured under a caravan. Conner was found in a coma with brain swelling, eye haemorrhage, and hypothermia, and died four days later in hospital. Braddon was on probation for drugs offences and assaulting a police officer at the time, with prior convictions for domestic abuse.

The home of Wendy Williams, 49, of Sycamore Court, Bargoed, was raided by police in November 2012. Officers found her in possession of 8.97 grams of cannabis and 1.7 kgs of cannabis in production. She had been stealing electricity via a loop bypassing the meter and stolen gas through a stolen gas meter, which was incorrectly installed and leaking. The electricity meter had started to melt due to heat from the loop, and the strong smell of cannabis masked the gas leak, creating a dangerous situation.

Concurrent sentences of 3 months for dishonesty using electricity, 1 month for possession of a controlled Class B drug, and 3 months for theft of gas. Forfeiture and destruction of all drugs and paraphernalia ordered. Ordered to pay £100 victim surcharge.

In November 2010, Cornelius Jones visited the home of 90-year-old blind pensioner John Teasdale in Nelson, falsely claiming loose roof tiles needed repairing at a cost of £280. He drove Teasdale to a bank to cash a cheque for payment. A care worker challenged Jones, confirming the roof was fine via surveyor inspection. Jones refunded the money and replaced three removed tiles. Separately, in July 2010, Jones poorly repaired a leaking flat roof for a 68-year-old woman in Newport, guaranteeing 12 years but requiring £800 remedial work. Investigations by Caerphilly County Borough Council and Newport City Council Trading Standards led to his prosecution.

Pleaded guilty to three offences in Nelson (stating roof required repairing when it didn’t, repairing roof when not needed, aggressive practice using harassment, coercion and undue influence) and one offence in Newport, all contrary to the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. Sentenced to eight months for each Nelson offence concurrently, plus six months consecutive for Newport offence.
