Peter Little, 41, of Grasmere Terrace, Maryport, sent two Facebook messages in March to Baroness Hayman, the former Labour MP for Workington (2015-2019), which were of a grossly offensive or indecent, obscene or menacing character. This was his third court appearance; he had previously been jailed in 2021 for a threatening email to the Allerdale Borough Council chief executive and MP Mark Jenkinson, and received a suspended sentence for verbally abusing neighbours and subjecting female police officers to homophobic abuse.

Paul Gibbons, aged 56, of Trafalgar Street, Carlisle, was driving an Audi A6 when he collided with a couple’s vehicle on Denton Street in Carlisle’s Denton Holme at around 9.10pm on August 30, 2023. He was more than three times the legal alcohol limit (113 micrograms in 100ml of breath; limit 35mcg). The impact caused severe damage to the other vehicle, spinning it 180 degrees. Gibbons drove away but was stopped at Lorne Crescent where his damaged vehicle showed collision marks. He failed a roadside breath test.

Repeat offender with three previous convictions for driving with excess alcohol and two for failing to provide a specimen. Defence stated not alcohol dependent, lost job, seeking employment. Judge noted offence aggravated by previous convictions and no realistic prospect of rehabilitation.
