On March 28, 2023, at 12.49pm, Christopher El Gifari stole a delivery van from Laytonia Avenue in Cardiff. Delivery driver Mark Lang stood in front of the van to stop him but was driven over and dragged at least 743 metres along North Road in Cathays at 47mph, as recorded by speed cameras. The van stopped at the junction with New Zealand Road, and El Gifari fled the scene. Mark Lang, aged 54, sustained critical injuries, received help from members of the public and emergency services, but never regained consciousness and died 18 days later from his injuries.
Found guilty following a trial. Also sentenced to 10 years for robbery, to be served concurrently.

Christopher Elgifari, 32, murdered Mark Lang, a parcel deliverer, on March 28, 2023, in Cardiff by stealing his Ford Transit van with keys left in and engine running on Laytonia Avenue, then driving over him during a three-point turn in a dead-end street, dragging him 743m trapped between van and road. Lang stood to block escape; Elgifari did not deviate, causing catastrophic injuries including heart failure and brain damage. Lang died in hospital 17 days later. Elgifari fled to his parents' home and lay low.

Jay Webster, 28, killed his best friend Benjamin Lloyd, 27, in a one-punch manslaughter attack outside a library in Caerphilly town centre on April 1, 2023, after drinking and a silly argument. Turned away from a pub for being too drunk, Webster punched Lloyd to the head, sending him crashing to the ground with a horrible snap as his head hit. Devastated, Webster pleaded 'Get up Ben' as Lloyd regained consciousness after three minutes but refused medical help. He died the next morning at his father's house from injuries.

The 22-minute ordeal left the victim unconscious and caused her extreme psychological harm. The incident was captured on CCTV. McGrath was arrested at the scene, intervened by members of the public including young men from Splott. He had been in custody since arrest.

He gained her trust by paying for food and taxis before forming the relationship and funding an advert on an escort website, causing her to become involved in prostitution.
Pleaded guilty to inciting prostitution for gain. Initially denied the offence but changed plea before the victim was due to give evidence on July 21.

Natalie Steele drowned her two-year-old son Reid in the bath at their home in Parkwood Heights, Bridgend, on 11 August 2022, while suffering from delusions that her family were possessed by demons. She believed she was protecting him by sending him to heaven. Steele had been behaving oddly prior to the incident, reporting seeing lights and demons after converting to Christianity. She had been on a camping trip and was driven home early due to concerns about her mental state. After the incident, she texted a friend saying she had done something terrible to protect Reid from her family. Reid was found unresponsive and pronounced dead the following day.
Guilty plea to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility accepted. Judge described the case as a profound human tragedy and stated it was not appropriate for prison due to severe mental illness.

He convinced her to transfer £8,500 in instalments for investment in stocks and shares, showing her a fake app to build trust. He pocketed the money and spent it on useless things. The victim became suspicious in August 2021 after learning of his prior conviction via an article. He was arrested on August 16, 2021, at a Lloyds Bank branch after his account was found overdrawn. He admitted to the fraud when questioned by police.
Pleaded guilty to one count of fraud. Ordered to pay £8,500 in compensation to the victim by July 2027. Recorder David Payne noted it was a classic confidence trick and that those engaging in such frauds must expect immediate custody. Defendant had five previous convictions for dishonesty.

The crash killed 73-year-old passenger Francis Green from Norwich, who had been visiting Barry Island and was returning to a holiday home in Monmouth with her husband and daughter. John Green suffered a fractured hip requiring replacement, and daughter Beverley Green suffered a serious wrist fracture. Ing narrowly avoided a broken-down vehicle being recovered roadside. Witnesses reported no brake lights activated.

On Saturday February 5, 2023, Martin Newman, 41, from Croeserw, was driving home from Leicester on the M4 in his white Ford Transit van. He had been partying the night before and was twice over the drink-driving limit with traces of cocaine in his system. At around 1.45pm, he veered into the hard shoulder at 57mph and crashed into the rear of a stationary red Ford Fiesta where two young children, Jayden-Lee Lucas, three, and Gracie-Ann Wheaton, four, were seated. The family had pulled over to allow Gracie-Ann to go to the toilet after complaining of a bad stomach. Newman had been driving erratically and was witnessed talking on his phone by other motorists. The collision caused catastrophic brain injuries to the children, resulting in their deaths, and seriously injured their mother, Rhiannon Lucas.
Pleaded guilty at first opportunity, resulting in one-third reduction. Concurrent sentences for additional charges. Judge noted the sentence was bound by parliamentary guidelines with a maximum of 14 years. Banned from driving for 14 years and 8 months. Will serve half in custody.

Michael Truman, 33, from Penylan, worked with Karl Legg in a spate of burglaries. He drove Legg to areas to commit the burglaries and received the stolen car keys and cars. The silver car he drove was involved in a road traffic collision where stolen items were found. He was arrested a month after Legg in January 2022. The stolen vehicles, including a family camper van, were likely sold but never found.

He was arrested on the same day, with police seizing 12 kilos of cocaine, cash, counting machine, encrypted device, and instruction notes. The device contained evidence of his leading role in the OCG.
From Canton, Cardiff. Led the organised crime group using encrypted messaging platforms to organise purchasing and supplying of drugs.
Spencer Perks
Conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and cannabis production *

Spencer Perks, 42, supported Nicholas Gale by collecting 18 kilos of high purity cocaine from the supplier on 14 July 2022, which was then distributed. He was arrested on the same day. A cannabis production was located at his address.

He was also in possession of cannabis.

He was arrested on 27 September 2022 at his home where police recovered cocaine, digital scales, and over £55,000 in cash.
