Farhad Salah, a 24-year-old Iraqi Kurd and Isis supporter, plotted a martyrdom operation using a remote-controlled vehicle with an improvised explosive device to harm others he considered infidels while sparing his own life. He was in the early stages of testing small devices and had messaged contacts about his plans a week before his arrest in December 2017. Unable to travel to the Middle East due to his unsettled asylum status, he grew increasingly desperate to act for Isis. He was in communication with other extremists and viewed sickening violent imagery.
Found guilty of preparing to commit acts of terrorism after a five-week retrial. Judge Paul Watson QC noted Salah posed a significant risk of serious harm to the public and had viewed depraved imagery. Possible deportation at the end of sentence.

He shouted 'scum' and 'child killers' at police, screamed 'you are protecting people who are killing our kids and raping them', and 'protect my children'. He held a placard asserting corruption of MPs, judges, the media, and police. Body-worn camera footage showed him challenging officers as they pushed him back with shields. The rioting left 64 police officers injured, as well as four dogs and a horse.
Judge Jeremy Richardson KC noted that he did not attack any police officer but encouraged others to behave violently by his conduct as part of the mob. Suffered from diabetes, thyroid issues, angina, and had recently had a heart attack.

She admitted causing or inciting a boy aged 13-15 to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity with a child, and causing a child to watch an image of sexual activity. No physical sexual activity was confirmed. The court heard she was under extreme stress and showed genuine remorse.

He plied them with money, cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol, often encouraging them to get very drunk before raping or assaulting them. In one case, he threatened a victim by saying he knew where her family lived and would hurt them if she reported the abuse.
Found guilty following a trial. Charges include two counts of rape, two counts of paying for sexual services of a child, five counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming, three counts of assault by penetration, two counts of sexual activity with a child, and one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. Scott Greenwood, 34, of Tingle Bridge Lane, Hemingfield, South Yorkshire, participated in a riot at the Holiday Inn Express at Manvers, near Rotherham, on August 4, 2024, where asylum seekers were housed. He was part of a group that set fire to items around a disused generator, feeding the blaze with smashed fencing from nearby gardens. He was filmed throwing wood on the fire and later spotted at the forefront of a mob taunting riot police, stoking a grass fire to create a smoke hazard. Greenwood was easily identified by removing his shirt to tie around his face and wearing a distinctive St George’s flag bucket hat, which the judge ruled indicated racist intent. The disorder involved breaking into the hotel, starting a fire in a bin that filled the building with smoke, trapping 240 residents on upper floors. Staff barricaded themselves in a safe room fearing for their lives, and over 60 police officers were injured.
Pleaded guilty to violent disorder and arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered. Deemed a dangerous offender with 44 previous court appearances covering 103 offences. Judge Jeremy Richardson KC commented on racist intent and participation in mob violence.
Colin Mcneil

Colin McNeil, 46, from Leeds, operated two websites that spread far-right propaganda and encouraged terrorism, featuring racist documents, images, and videos glorifying Hitler, the Nazis, and prominent Neo-Nazis. The sites honoured men who committed racist mass killings, including Brenton Tarrant, who murdered 51 people in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2019. McNeil did not create the material but provided a platform for it, reaching an audience inclined towards terrorism. Evidence showed engagement by Payton Gendron, who murdered 10 people in Buffalo, USA in 2022. McNeil benefited financially from donations and expressed his own racist views. One site had 5,716 members with 255,960 photos and 6,499 videos; the other had 12,345 members and 79,284 videos, with a $50 pro upgrade option.
Pleaded guilty to four offences of disseminating a terrorist publication. Sentenced with a four-year extended licence, to run concurrently.

Mehmet Yumusak, 46, of Camden Place, Balby Bridge, Doncaster, targeted a vulnerable 13-year-old girl with learning difficulties online via TikTok and Likee. He sent her sexual messages, professed romantic interest, and requested explicit images. He instructed her to delete messages to conceal his actions. The victim's mother reported the contact; police identified Yumusak from photographs he sent, seized his devices, and found evidence of the communications. He pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a child and causing a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity (no penetration). He was sentenced to one year in prison at Sheffield Crown Court on 11 July 2024, with a 10-year restraining order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Anesu Blessing Samuriwo, alongside Rovin Mavunga, operated an illegal money lending business from around December 2018 until their arrest in 2020. They used social media apps like Snapchat to target vulnerable borrowers needing money for basic necessities, offering short-term high-interest loans (typically just under 100% interest) ranging from £50 to £100, totalling around £120,000 to approximately 130 borrowers. They charged extortionate interest rates and late payment penalties, using threats and intimidation including threats to burn down a borrower's house and kill him, demanding £7,000 including £4,000 interest. Phone records showed banking transactions and messages indicating loan provision. After Mavunga's arrest in March 2020, Samuriwo continued the enterprise with increased transactions.
Admitted acting as an illegal money lender jointly with Rovin Mavunga. Previously sentenced to eight weeks custody for bail act offence after failing to attend court. Judge Megan Rhys stated only a custodial sentence was appropriate, describing it as an organised, sophisticated, and profitable illegal business targeting vulnerable people with extortionate interest rates, late penalties, threats, and intimidation.

Gary Allen, aged 47, was convicted of murdering Samantha Class, a 29-year-old single mother-of-three and sex worker, on October 25, 1997, in Hull. He picked her up in his car at midnight, had sex with her, attacked her with savage violence causing 33 external injuries, multiple rib fractures, and internal injuries, strangled her with a ligature, drove over her body after her heart stopped, and dumped her in the River Humber where she was found the next day partially submerged. He was acquitted in 2000 but later convicted based on new evidence. In 2018, in Rotherham, he murdered Alena Grlakova, a 38-year-old married mother-of-four and sex worker who had separated from her family and was struggling with addiction. She visited his flat uninvited on December 26, 2018; he threatened her with violence, later strangled her causing a neck injury, and dumped her naked body partially buried in a watercourse, where it was found three months later. Images of dead women, some sex workers being strangled, were found on his phone, confirming his mindset.
Described as 'extremely dangerous' by Mr Justice Goose, who doubted it will ever be safe to release him. Judge commented on his warped view of women, particularly sex workers, and that he fantasises and plans serious violence against them. No remorse shown.

Al-Tahery Al-Mashriky, 26, from Rotherham, hacked into websites of organisations across America, Yemen, and Israel, stealing login details of millions of people. He was linked to the extremist hacker group Yemen Cyber Army through social media and email accounts. Forensic analysis revealed he infiltrated sites including the Yemen Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yemen Ministry of Security Media, an Israeli news outlet, faith websites in Canada and the USA, and the California State Water Board. In February 2022, he hacked into Israeli Live News, accessing admin pages and downloading the entire website. He also targeted two Yemeni government websites, deploying tools to scan for usernames and vulnerabilities. He created hidden webpages with his online monikers and messaging furthering his religious and political ideology. He possessed personal data for over four million Facebook users and documents with usernames and passwords for services like Netflix and Paypal. His activities caused significant cost and inconvenience to victims.
Pleaded guilty to nine offences under the Computer Misuse Act. Originally due to stand trial for 10 offences.

Ross Daniels, 25, was arrested last year after driving at 90mph in a 30mph zone, going onto the wrong side of the road during a police chase. Officers found a significant amount of cocaine in his car. He was initially jailed in September for dangerous driving, possessing a weapon, and assaulting police officers. The additional charge arose from the cocaine possession.

Riyasth Hussain, aged 45, raped a 13-year-old girl twice in Rotherham in the 2000s. He first met her between 2004 and 2006 when he offered her help during a street incident, later driving her to an empty industrial estate where he raped her. On a second occasion, he drove her to a field and raped her inside his car. In 2008, he raped a young woman in her 20s after entering her room at a friend's home in Rotherham. The victims provided descriptions and details that led to his identification. He was arrested in 2019.
Found guilty following a trial. Sentences for child rapes to run consecutively (8 years and 12 years), sentence for adult rape to run concurrently. Part of Operation Stovewood investigation.

Elliot Bucknall

On an unspecified date, 21-year-old Elliot Bucknall from Theobald Avenue, Doncaster, was spotted by police from Operation Fortify carrying a suspicious holdall towards a black Land Rover on Somerset Road, Hyde Park. He handed the bag to an accomplice and attempted to flee, but was caught after running. The holdall contained approximately £40,000 worth of cocaine, £3,000 of heroin, and nearly £5,000 in cash. Forensic evidence linked him to the drugs.
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin, cocaine, and crack cocaine, as well as driving while disqualified, without insurance, and failing to stop. Also received a 13-month driving ban.
Wayne Joselyn

Wayne Joselyn, 43, dug up the grave of Kell and Maud Goodwin in Carlton Cemetery, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, in April 2023, after hearing a rumour that the plot contained money to fund his drug habit. The couple had been buried together since 1984, with Maud dying at 78 and Kell at 80 in 1982. The disturbance was discovered on May 2, 2023, by a member of the public, leading to a police investigation that identified Joselyn as the perpetrator.
Pleaded guilty to criminal damage and a further count of outraging public decency and common law. Sentence to run consecutively to the sentence he is already serving.
John Taylor
Dangerous driving *

John Taylor, a 30-year-old lorry driver from Riverside Traveller Park in Kirkhouse Green, Doncaster, deliberately drove his 7.5 tonne vehicle the wrong way down the M18 motorway near Doncaster on 10 January 2024, speeding for several miles and narrowly avoiding collisions. Prior to joining the motorway, he rammed a police car with the vehicle. He eventually performed a U-turn, dumped the lorry in the emergency carriageway, and ran across three lanes of traffic, where police found him hiding in a caravan.
Admitted dangerous driving, breaching a suspended sentence, and two counts of assaulting police officers.
Mohammad Farooq
Preparing acts of terrorism *

Mohammad Farooq, a 29-year-old clinical support worker at St James’s Hospital in Leeds, took a viable home-made pressure cooker bomb, modelled on those used in the 2013 Boston Marathon but with twice the explosives, into the hospital on January 20, 2023, intending to kill as many nurses as possible. After failing to access RAF Menwith Hill due to security, he targeted the hospital as Plan B. He planned to use a bomb threat to evacuate staff, attack them with knives, and provoke police to shoot him. In the hospital cafe, he was approached by patient Nathan Newby, who talked him down from detonating the device, preventing an atrocity in the maternity wing. Farooq had self-radicalised online, accessing Al Qaeda materials, and was inspired by Islamic State, though his lawyers claimed grievances with nurses. He was arrested after Newby called the police.
Admitted firearms offences, possessing an explosive substance with intent, and having a document likely to be useful to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism. Found guilty of preparing acts of terrorism after a trial. Judge noted his intent to cause maximum damage to life in a hospital, but courage failed due to intervention by Nathan Newby.

On May 27, 2021, following Harrison Buckley's collision with 81-year-old Ann Cassidy in Thrybergh, Rotherham, which caused her death, Jordie Stokes, 27, from Thrybergh, Rotherham, was persuaded by Buckley to attend the scene and falsely tell police she was the driver and had not realised what happened. She took a breathalyser test on his behalf. Later admitted the truth after CCTV evidence emerged. The vehicle was a mobility car provided to her due to her grandfather's disability.
Admitted lying to police about being the driver to cover for partner Harrison Buckley. Deeply remorseful; feared losing mobility vehicle provided due to grandfather's disability. Defence noted she was scared and did not realise the seriousness initially.
Harrison Buckley
Causing death by careless driving and perverting the course of justice *

1 year and 7 weeks imprisonment, disqualified from driving for 29 weeks
On May 27, 2021, Harrison Buckley, 24, from Thrybergh, Rotherham, drove a Seat mobility vehicle without permission or insurance, reversing into 81-year-old Ann Cassidy as she crossed Park Lane in Thrybergh, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, causing a fractured skull and brain bleeding. She died the following day. Buckley persuaded his partner Jordie Stokes to lie to police, claiming she was the driver. CCTV later revealed he was driving. He had an open bottle of alcohol at the scene but was not breath-tested initially. He admitted his role the next day.
Pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and perverting the course of justice. Judge Rachael Harrison noted no sentence would alleviate the family's pain. Defence expressed remorse and personal struggles including brother's death and prior assault.
Nathanial Elsemore
Stalking involving fear of violence *

Nathanial Elsemore of Urban Road, Hexthorpe, Doncaster, stalked a woman he met online for nine months from October 2022 to July 2023. He used multiple fake social media accounts to send abusive messages about self-harm and suicide, and made threats to kill her. He also sent messages to the victim's friends to further threaten her, causing serious harm to the victim.
Found guilty of stalking involving fear of violence. Previous separate stalking offence convictions from 2021. Handed a ten year restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim directly or indirectly including via social media.

They spread false rumours, including accusing him of luring children into the woods, and intimidated the couple. On 6 September 2018, they waited for Mr Dean after his wife left for work and murdered him by shooting him in the back with an air rifle and beating him with rocks and branches in a premeditated attack.
Convicted of murder after a five-week trial. Judge inferred she fully participated by encouraging and facilitating the killing. Judge commented on the brutal determination and venom in her character.

Sharjeel Jelani, a 34-year-old Detention Officer working in Bradford District for West Yorkshire Police, committed perjury by submitting false claims in an 'Exceptional Hardship' application at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court in June 2022. He falsely stated he was a police officer in road traffic patrol and needed his licence for work to avoid disqualification from a speeding offence committed off-duty. The incorrect information was identified after sentencing, leading to an investigation by the Force’s Professional Standards Directorate.
Pleaded guilty to one count of perjury. Suspended from duty and subject to misconduct proceedings. Received a 12-month driving disqualification for the original speeding offence, effective on release.
