On July 17, 2024, at about 3.30pm on Tenth Avenue, Windybank estate, in Cleckheaton, Jemma Hampton's Perro de Presa Canario dog jumped over a fence from her garden and mauled 15-year-old Kobie Pollard as he walked to visit his grandma. The dog initially went for his face, but Kobie protected himself with his hands, resulting in severe injuries to his right hand, including a crushed bone and exposed tendon. The dog was subsequently destroyed.
