He communicated via Skype and WhatsApp to arrange travel to the Philippines to abuse young girls, including discussions about a 13-year-old, 12-year-old, nine-year-old, six-year-old, four-year-old, seven-year-old, 11-year-old, and a 10-year-old. He requested and received indecent images and directed poses. His devices contained child abuse images. Arrested on 30 June 2018 at Manchester Airport returning from Thailand.

He told them that no one would believe them if they disclosed. The victims reported the offences to South Yorkshire Police in April 2014, leading to his arrest. Swindlehurst denied all charges but was found guilty by a jury at Sheffield Crown Court in October 2015. He was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on 23 November 2015.

21-year-old Jacob Daniel from Partridge Crescent, Thornhill, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, contacted West Yorkshire Police in March 2019 to voluntarily confess that he had committed child sex offences against two children both aged under 10. The offences occurred in West Yorkshire in 2018. There was no other evidence besides his admissions. He had previously received a caution for kissing a girl after a disclosure, but then proactively called police to reveal full assaults on both a boy and a girl. He pleaded guilty to four charges at Leeds Crown Court: sexual assault on a girl, sexual activity with a girl, sexual assault on a boy, and sexual activity with a boy. He had prior convictions for possessing an offensive weapon and battery. He was described as immature, naive, and abusing alcohol and cannabis which exacerbated mental health issues. He expressed genuine remorse.

Joseph Brian Parkin, of William Prince Grove, Belle Vue, Wakefield, contacted 13 and 14-year-old girls and left messages breaching SHPO from suspended sentence last June. Already in communication with two more youngsters who contacted him after seeing message on bus. Met them on several occasions, made sexual comments, followed them. Confronted by one girl's older sister, rode off on bike. Refused to comment in interview.

Pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a child and two counts of breach of sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). Nine previous convictions including sexual assault of a girl under 13. Mitigating: Asperger's Syndrome, placed in care at 12, on remand 7 months reflecting. Judge: Dangerous due to inability to stop contacting young girls for sexual purposes.

Joshua Mahoney

Possession of indecent images of children *

Joshua Mahoney, a 34-year-old from Leeds, was found in possession of more than 1,000 indecent images and videos of child abuse, as well as extreme pornographic material and a paedophile handbook. On 13 July 2021, West Yorkshire Police executed a search warrant at his home on Queen Street in Morley, acting on intelligence that the IP address was being used to download illegal images. He was arrested and a MacBook and hard drive seized. Forensic examination revealed 817 Category A images (including 113 videos), 430 Category B images (8 videos), 566 Category C images (6 videos), 17 extreme pornographic images including acts with animals and a deceased infant, and a paedophile manual. Mahoney initially gave a no‑comment interview and pleaded not guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images and one count of possessing extreme pornographic images. His trial began in December 2023 at Leeds Crown Court, during which it emerged that he had enrolled in a sex offending programme and confessed to a counsellor. In January 2024 he was sentenced to 28 months' imprisonment.

Pleaded not guilty but had confessed to a counsellor during proceedings. Judge Ray Singh remarked: 'Some of the images have been described as being the most vile one could ever imagine.' Also placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years and given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

John Davies, 58, from Sowerby Bridge, committed multiple sexual offences against four young girls in Calderdale and Huddersfield areas between 2014 and 2020. The abuse came to police attention in 2020 after one victim disclosed it, leading to an immediate investigation, his arrest, and further enquiries by Calderdale and Kirklees specialist detectives.

Found guilty after trial of three sexual assaults and two sexual touching offences. Described by judge as a dangerous offender posing a high risk of serious harm to very young children. Placed on sex offenders register and subject to a sexual harm prevention order.

John Taylor abducted 16-year-old schoolgirl Leanne Tiernan less than one mile from her home on 26 November 2000 while she was returning from a Christmas shopping trip in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and subsequently murdered her by strangulation. Her body was bound with cable ties, wrapped in bin bags and a duvet cover, and discovered on 20 August 2001 in Lindley Woods near Otley.

Pleaded guilty to kidnap and murder. Mr Justice Astill described him as a dangerous sexual sadist who must expect to spend the rest of his life in custody.

Jeffrey Fisher

Rape and indecent assault *

Jeffrey Fisher, 64, from Blackpool, was convicted of historical sexual offences from the early 1980s. He groomed a young girl in the Wakefield area, walking her to school and convincing her he was her boyfriend, leading to her being raped. The victim became pregnant and later developed a drug addiction, with her child removed from her care. At trial, Fisher denied the allegations but was convicted of one count of rape and three counts of indecent assault. The court heard of his difficult upbringing. He was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court.

Found guilty after trial of one count of rape and three counts of indecent assault. Fisher maintained his denials. Victim became pregnant and suffered lasting trauma. Judge Alex Menary described Fisher as dangerous, imposing a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and sex offender registration.

Joe Metcalfe, aged 15, stole his father's Lexus car and drove to a mosque in Keighley, West Yorkshire, for a scouting trip, filming himself with Serbian folk music playing to mimic the Christchurch mosque attacks. He had a notebook manifesto with pictograms, swastikas, SS symbols, and names of notorious killers, and planned to murder Muslims disguised as a police officer.

Found guilty of preparing acts of terrorism. Had compiled a manifesto, made contact with a gun seller, and stole his father's Lexus for a reconnaissance mission to a mosque while playing Serbian folk music to recreate Christchurch attacks. Later converted to Islam.
