On 28 August, Anthony Riley, 32, from Forest Road, Clipstone, lost control of a stolen Volvo XC90 while driving at 89mph in a 30mph zone on Hawton Road, Newark. The crash killed his front-seat passenger, 35-year-old Mark Hunter from Mapperley, at the scene. Riley had been spotted by police pursuing the stolen vehicle and led them on a chase before crashing into a tree. He sustained broken ribs and a concussion. Riley has prior convictions including a suspended sentence and driving ban from 2021 for dangerous and drink-driving offences.
Pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, and aggravated vehicle taking. Will serve two-thirds before release on licence. Also received a 10-year driving ban with extended retest. Judge Stuart Rafferty KC commented on the speed and consequences.

The victim was found collapsed in the street, having suffered a blow to his chest that punctured the membrane around his heart, requiring treatment in intensive care.

On 15 November 2025, police investigating unusual activity at an empty property on Pelham Street, Ilkeston, discovered Alban Egra inside. He was already the subject of an active deportation order. Officers found eight vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis weighing a total of 7.5kg, with an estimated street value of £24,000 to £30,000. Egra claimed he did not live there and was only using the property to meet his girlfriend. He also possessed keys to a BMW which he said was not his. Checks revealed he had a previous conviction from 2021 for tending a large cannabis grow of over 500 plants, valued at up to £470,000.
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis at the earliest opportunity. The prosecution accepted he was holding the drugs temporarily for someone else. He was subject to an active deportation order and had a previous conviction for cannabis production in 2021. Judge Steven Coupland imposed a short sentence to allow immediate release into immigration detention for deportation.

A lone student was set upon outside Fusion Sports Bar on St James's Street, Nottingham, at around 4am on 5 May 2025 after all involved were ejected from the venue. The victim was pushed to the ground and repeatedly kicked, punched and stamped on by a group of four men, leaving him unconscious and bleeding in the street. CCTV showed a knife being passed between two defendants shortly before the assault, though it was not used. The victim was hospitalised with head injuries but did not suffer long-term brain damage. Alfie Seagrave, who was one of the four, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife. In addition, he admitted an unrelated assault on a woman in Ilkeston and threatening behaviour in a separate incident. The judge described the group attack as a targeted act that could easily have been fatal.

Courtney McLeary, aged 54, of High Cross Leys, murdered 22-year-old Davices Anderson by stabbing him to death in a flat in High Cross Leys, Nottingham city centre, on the morning of 28 April 2023. McLeary and David Francis set upon Davices in the flat where he was fatally stabbed in the chest. McLeary accepted in interview that he had a knife and may have stabbed Davices while they were wrestling on the floor. After the incident, McLeary stepped over the injured Davices with Lisa Barlow before leaving the building.
Found guilty by a jury following an eight-week trial.

Connor Gillan punched a 17-year-old boy to the side of the head during a fight involving a group of men in Burton Street, Nottingham city centre, on 25 February 2018. The victim was an innocent passer-by. The force of the punch knocked him to the ground, where he hit his head on the pavement and was knocked unconscious. He suffered a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain. The victim, a soldier in training with the Rifles Regiment, was unable to complete his training as planned due to the injuries. Gillan handed himself in after seeing a police CCTV appeal on Facebook.
Pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm. Previously of good character. The unprovoked attack left a 17-year-old soldier with a fractured skull and bleed on the brain, setting back his army training.

Christopher Marshall drove 400 miles from Dundee with a balaclava, knife and Viagra-style tablets to meet a 13-year-old decoy girl in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, for sex. He had sent explicit photographs of his private parts to two decoy profiles posing as 12- and 13-year-old girls and engaged in sexual communication. He was confronted by a paedophile hunter group called Demon Hunters and arrested by police.

Christopher David Clark, a 56-year-old registered sex offender, sent indecent sexual messages to a 14-year-old girl from Grantham, a family friend. The messages included discussions of a sexual nature, such as shaving private parts and masturbation. The girl showed the messages to her family, who contacted the police, and Clark was arrested on 1 January 2022. The victim’s mother expressed guilt and betrayal in her impact statement. Clark had a history of sexual offences dating back to 1995.
Total sentence of 44 months, comprising 20 months immediate imprisonment and a 2-year extended licence period. Also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for life and placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Police attended Chris Webber's home in March 2022 and seized electronic devices. Analysis revealed almost 3,000 indecent images and videos of children collected over several years, including 616 Category A (most serious), 622 Category B, and 1,733 Category C images. Some material involved very young children. Webber used the online username "Pool Fun 23" to distribute indecent images between June and November 2015, including Category A, B, and C material. He engaged in deeply disturbing online conversations with another user. Indecent images remained on his devices and were still accessible at the time of seizure. Search terms linked to child abuse material were also found.
Pleaded guilty to possession and distribution of indecent images of children and possession of extreme pornography. No previous convictions. Mitigation: expressed shame, struggled with low self-esteem, family support. Ordered to complete 150 hours unpaid work and 35 rehabilitation sessions. Christian Lawson committed an aggravated burglary at a home in Woodthorpe on 12 April, where he was discovered by the occupants upstairs, threatened them with a knife and stole £5. He also attempted to break into a house on Glebe Road, Carlton, causing damage to the rear door. Stolen items were found at his address. Desmond Rice, 47, from Aylesbury, along with Banet Tershana, Klodian Shenaj and Jetmir Myrtaj organised people smuggling crossings from France and Belgium to the UK in October 2022. Rice purchased the boat Aquaholic for £22,500 from Poole, transported it with Shenaj to Brightlingsea Marina in Essex, filled 12 canisters with nearly £1000-worth of fuel on 22 October, and provided a kayak for access. GPS showed the boat travelled to Belgium and back. Arrested on 29 October with related documents found at his house.
Pleaded guilty on 1 August. Bought the boat Aquaholic for £22,500, transported it to Brightlingsea Marina, filled it with fuel, and provided a kayak for access.

In July 2022, the City Knife Crime Team found more Class A drugs in his car after forcing entry; a search of a nearby address revealed a large haul of drugs, phones, and dealing equipment.
Initially pleaded not guilty but later admitted to possessing crack cocaine and heroin with intent to supply, possession of criminal property, and four further Class A drug charges. Refused to answer police questions. Described as a career criminal.

David John Clarkson, of Yorke Drive, Newark, Nottinghamshire, chatted with teenage girls online, persuaded one 15-year-old girl from Derby to meet him, took her to Newark, and photographed her in a baby-doll outfit after she undressed. He swapped explicit images with another underage girl, shared pictures with a third 14-year-old girl performing a sex act on herself, and sent her images of the first victim. He contacted a supposed 13-year-old (actually a paedophile hunter) and sent a near-naked picture. Police were tipped off by the hunter. Clarkson was caught with sexually-explicit images of children.
Pleaded guilty to 15 charges relating to possession and distribution of indecent images, inciting sexual activity and sexual exploitation of minors. Must sign on the sex offenders register for life. Later received an additional 14 days for wasting court time on appeal.

After the victim got off the bus, Deville followed him along a dark street with no CCTV. When the victim turned around, Deville threatened him and demanded his belongings. When the victim refused, Deville punched him repeatedly in the face, ripped a chain from his neck, and took his mobile phone and bag. The victim suffered facial and dental injuries requiring ongoing treatment at Queen's Medical Centre.
Found guilty by jury. Detective Constable Richard Kinsey described the attack as unprovoked and pre-planned.

Danny O’Keefe, aged 50, of Keswick Court, Sneinton, assisted an offender after the murder of Davices Anderson on 28 April 2023 by allowing Courtney McLeary and Lisa Barlow to attend his address despite knowing McLeary was wanted for murder.
Found guilty of assisting an offender. Admitted in interview that McLeary and Barlow attended his home after the stabbing and that he knew McLeary was wanted for murder but was scared of him and unable to alert police.
Darrell Anton Edwards

On 14 August, officers stopped Darrell Anton Edwards in a car on Queens Drive, Nottingham. When they noticed him throwing a white block out of the window, they forced entry and arrested him. A search of the car revealed over £3,500 in cash. Later that day, a drugs warrant at an address in Balmoral Road, Colwick uncovered over £1,500 cash, three wraps of powder, and three knives with powder on the blades. Documents linking Edwards to the address were found. The white block was tested and found to be cocaine, while drugs from the Colwick address were heroin and cocaine. Edwards was charged with possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin. He pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court on 16 November 2015.

David Carey smashed a window and entered a house on Deabill Street, Netherfield, in the early hours of November 7, 2020. He stole a woman's handbag containing a purse with bank cards, toiletries and cash. The victim and her partner were alerted by the sound of the window breaking and confronted Carey before he fled. He was arrested later that morning. Some of the stolen items were recovered nearby and forensically linked to Carey.
Pleaded guilty to burglary. Offence occurred in early hours of November 7, 2020.
Daniel O’Keefe

On December 17, 2023, Daniel O’Keefe, a 24-year-old resident of a mental health facility in Nottingham suffering from schizophrenia, punched a fellow resident twice causing him to fall, then stamped on his head an estimated 16 times until his shoe came off, put it back on, punched him another 12 times, kicked and stamped on his head again before leaving and informing staff. He told police he had no regrets, influenced by hallucinatory voices commanding the act. The victim suffered relatively minor injuries with no broken bones.
Pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. No previous convictions. Ordered to attend 25 rehabilitation sessions and a 12-month mental health treatment programme. Judge noted the vicious attack but spared immediate prison due to remarkable improvement in mental health.
Daniel Grady
Conspiracy to supply cocaine *

Daniel Grady, 29, of Birchfield Avenue, Arnold, was part of the drug supply conspiracy. During the police searches in August 2013, he was found in possession of benzocaine, a cutting agent commonly used to bulk out cocaine and increase dealer profits. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine and conspiracy to supply cannabis resin.

Daniel Harrison, 44, of Roe Hill, Woodborough, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG14, sexually abused two teenage boys over several years, including offences in 2009. Investigated in 2018 after one victim reported the abuse. Initially denied the offences but later admitted 19 sexual offences. Described as a 'manipulative predator' who groomed and exploited the victims.
Admitted sexual assault on one boy and 18 offences (seven counts of sexual activity with a child and 11 counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity) against the other. Also put on the sex offenders register for life and given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
