Waseem Akhtar, despite never being a licensed taxi driver for Gedling Borough Council, sold a vehicle to a third party and falsely claimed it was licensed with the council. He tampered with the licence plate to alter the date and produced a counterfeit paper licence. A council licensing officer noticed the forgery and reported it. He also submitted false receipts for journeys he had not undertaken. Akhtar had previously been convicted of similar fraud offences.
Pleaded guilty to six counts of fraud relating to taxi licensing. Repeat offender with previous convictions for similar offences; jailed in 2013 for six months for falsely claiming to hold a taxi licence. Also admitted a separate fraud charge for submitting false receipts for journeys not completed.
Wayne Norman
Attempted murder *

Wayne Norman attempted to kill Michael Bryan on two separate occasions in late August/early September 2013 at Mr Bryan’s home on Sun Street, Rugby. On the first occasion, he wrapped cling film around his friend’s head and held a cushion over his face before stopping after a few seconds. On the second, he used sellotape to secure a plastic bag Bryan had placed over his own head, but again could not complete the act. Norman stated he had been repeatedly asked by his friend to help end his life. Mr Bryan died from unrelated causes in October 2013.
Pleaded guilty to attempted murder on the basis he intended to kill but did not go through with it on two occasions. Ordered to pay a £100 victim surcharge.
Victor Marke
Sexual abuse of a child *

Victor Marke, 59, of Mavis Avenue, Ravenshead, jointly with Zara Phythian sexually abused a girl aged 13-15 after giving her rum and playing a game of dare. He pretended to be asleep before joining in the pre-planned abuse, made threats, and ordered her to film some incidents. The abuse occurred at least 20 times until she was 16. Also indecently assaulted a second girl.
Denied the charges. Judge Mark Watson regarded him as the driving force behind the abuse, pretending to be asleep as a pre-planned ruse. Must serve at least half before parole. Also sentenced for indecent assault of a second girl.
Zara Phythian

Zara Phythian, 37, of Taurus Close, Mansfield, and her husband Victor Marke gave rum to a girl aged 13-15 and asked her to play a game of dare, leading to her joining in a sex act with them. The abuse continued at least 20 times until she was 16. Marke threatened her and ordered her to film some abuse. The victim described Phythian's Chinese calligraphy tattoo near her private parts.
Denied the charges. Judge Mark Watson noted her deviance was shaped by Victor Marke's influence from an early age but held her accountable for her choices. Must serve at least half before parole.

Tony Clough, 65, of Sharratt Court, Mansfield, raped and sexually assaulted five boys, subjecting two to a campaign of sexual abuse. He was found guilty of 15 offences including rape, rape of a child and sexual assault of a child, but not guilty of a further count of rape of a child under 13. Victims were left scarred for life, with some suffering drug abuse problems.
Found guilty of 15 offences. Judge Stuart Rafferty QC branded him a 'disgrace' and said each victim would be scarred for life.
Umair Karim
Conspiracy to transfer a firearm *

Umair Karim and Muhammed Hassan engaged in mobile phone exchanges discussing the procurement and use of a handgun. Hassan approached Karim to secure a firearm, using the nickname 'Doctor'. Karim bragged about access to firearms including a Mac 11 machine pistol and AK-47. Messages also discussed drug dealing. Discovered during unrelated police investigation; warrant led to phone evidence.

Teejay Bullivant

Teejay Bullivant, 19, carried out a series of knife-related offences. On 26 October 2025 in Ilkeston he stole an electric bike and threatened victims with a machete. On 2 April 2025 he robbed a 13-year-old boy at a Bulwell tram stop by showing a knife, and earlier that evening threatened a young woman with a knife at another tram stop. On 21 March 2025 he assaulted a man at Derby bus station and threatened another man with a knife at a skatepark. He was also found in possession of cannabis.
Admitted robbery, multiple counts of possession of a knife in a public place, assault, theft and possession of a Class B drug. Described as a persistent knife carrier.

Terri Walters was the mother of 18-day-old Hunter White, who died on 10 July 2020. She knew that Adam White, the baby’s father, was a heavy cannabis user but left Hunter in his care while she went upstairs to sleep. She had also taken drugs. She initially denied responsibility but changed her plea to guilty for cruelty of a child by way of neglect.
Pleaded guilty to child cruelty by neglect. Knew of White’s drug habit but left baby with him to go to sleep. Also used drugs. Changed plea midway through trial.
Tiron Desuza

On 4 March 2026, police attended Tiron Desuza's property on Watnall Road in Hucknall to arrest him on unrelated matters. While officers secured the rear of the home, an officer noticed a landing window open and items being tossed onto a flat roof. A revolver and ammunition wrapped in a plastic bag were recovered. Desuza denied ownership, claiming the open window was due to incense. He later pleaded guilty.

Thomas Bullivant

On 7 November 2017, at about 6.15pm, the victims were having a drink in their garden bar at Linden Grove, Gedling, when Bullivant and Scott Hatherley burst in shouting 'where's the money?'. They tied the couple's wrists, and Bullivant held a knife against the husband's face, punched him, and kicked him in the chest. He forced the husband to crawl back to his wife and ordered them to sit together. The pair then tied the couple together by their waists. Bullivant repeatedly demanded money and threatened that the victims' sister was tied up in a car boot outside. They locked the bound couple in the bar, searched the house, and stole the couple's vehicles. Bullivant left his mobile phone at the scene, leading to his arrest on 14 November 2017.

Thomas Hallissey, from Rochdale, travelled to Nottingham to target Asian families for their gold jewellery. On 16 February 2016, he smashed a first-floor window of a house in Spring Lane, Lambley, and stole gold jewellery. On 23 February 2016, he used extendable ladders to access a first-floor window of a house in Gunnersbury Way, Nuthall, stealing cash and gold jewellery. In both incidents, residents returned to find their homes ransacked. He was identified through DNA left at the scene and CCTV footage.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and theft. Identified through DNA and CCTV. Targeted Asian families for their gold jewellery.
