Faisal Baruud, a 31-year-old pub doorman, targeted and groomed an underage teenage girl by flattering her, spending money on her including buying alcohol and takeaway food, and plying her with drink and drugs including benzodiazepine, cocaine, and cannabis over the day before the assault. On the evening of the incident, he bought drugs in Stockton and Middlesbrough, was spotted at the Exelby garage on the A19 southbound at midnight, then took the heavily intoxicated and disorientated girl out in his Range Rover Evoque. Police stopped the vehicle in the early hours in Stockton, finding the victim unable to identify who she was with or how she got there. Forensic tests confirmed Baruud's DNA on her clothing. He kissed and initiated sexual contact with her while she was intoxicated, claiming he believed she was 17. The victim suffers flashbacks and nightmares.
Admitted sexual assault hours before trial. Will sign the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years. Restraining order imposed to prevent contact with victim. Judge Taryn Turner presided.

Callum Wray, 25, from Annan Road in Billingham, used AI to 'undress' a photo of his victim taken years earlier when she was posing in her school uniform, which he obtained from her social media account. He then pretended to be the woman on a social networking app and posted the naked image online. This incident followed previous offenses where he superimposed naked photographs of the younger woman into sexual positions and used them to set up fake profiles on social networking sites. He was caught after uploading the indecent images online last year. Police found 19 indecent images of children (ages 2-10) on his iPhone, including one showing a girl with ankles bound by handcuffs. He breached his prior sexual harm prevention order by deleting apps, internet history, emails, and chats from TikTok and X. Wray admitted being 'obsessed' with the victim, who stated she fears for her life. He has a history of childhood abuse leading to psychological issues including depression and PTSD.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching sex offender court orders and a restraining order by mentioning his victim online; three counts of making indecent images of children and to distributing an indecent image. He messaged customers that he had 're-stocked' his cocaine supply and set up a call forwarding system on his phone. He offered one customer a job selling drugs, allowing them to keep 50% of profits. By December 30, police searched a house on Wellesley Road, finding 20 plastic sealed bags of cocaine (0.1 gram deals), £3,200 worth of crack cocaine in total, and kitchen scales. Finn-Gibbs was present in the house. He initially denied the offence but later pleaded guilty on the basis of working to pay off a drugs debt without receiving pay.
Pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply crack cocaine. Sentence reduced due to difficult circumstances of release at age 19. When officers signaled him to pull over, he initially complied but then performed a three-point turn and accelerated away, reaching speeds over 90mph and driving through a red light at the junction of Myton Way and The Rings. He was pursued and eventually stopped on Bancroft Drive, where he was arrested.

Bethany Mulliner sent a series of threatening messages to her former female partner following the breakdown of their three-month relationship, which began after meeting in HMP Low Newton. The threats, sent between April and July 2025 in Meadowfield, County Durham, included statements such as 'I will happily sit in jail knowing I've killed you', 'you are going to be six feet under very soon', 'I will stab you and watch you bleed so much', and 'I am a dangerous person if you get on the wrong side of me'. The victim was left absolutely terrified and believed Mulliner would seriously injure or hurt her. Mulliner was arrested, bailed, but attempted further contact before being remanded in February 2026.

Jemal Fassir-Hussain, 35, an Eritrean national, isolated a drunk woman from her friend at Flares nightclub in Middlesbrough a number of years ago. He waited outside the toilets, shepherded them to a separate bar, lied that her friend had left, and walked her to his home on Yew Street. He attempted to rape her outside the gate, then raped her twice inside the flat while she screamed in pain and zoned in and out of consciousness. He smashed her phone when she sought help via Snapchat. The victim wandered aimlessly until helped and reunited with her friend.
Convicted of attempted rape and two counts of rape after trial. Eligible for release after serving two-thirds. Likely to be deported after sentence. Barred from working with children and vulnerable people for life. Offence not pre-planned, isolated incident. Family impact noted in mitigation.

On October 19, 2025, in Windermere Avenue, Stockton, after his brother was arrested for alleged paedophile offences ensnared by a vigilante group using a decoy, Ben Rooney, 36, received a panicked call from his mother who felt scared due to threats from the vigilante crowd outside. The group was using racial abuse, throwing things, and one had a metal pole; a fence was pulled down and someone had a cricket bat. Rooney, who had been drinking with friends, returned home, felt in fear, and came out holding an air rifle by his side to confront them in a shouting match. His cousin gave him the baton. Mobile footage showed he kept the rifle down. He stashed the weapons under his bed upon hearing police and was arrested by armed police within the hour.
Pleaded guilty to possession of an air weapon with intent to cause fear. Ordered to attend 20 rehabilitation sessions and carry out 250 hours of unpaid work. Also put under an alcohol monitoring order for 4 months. Judge noted he was intoxicated and held the rifle beyond the boundary of his house. The group was making threats and using racial abuse. Mark Jenkins, 37, came out of the house with a police-style baton to confront the group, raising it at people screaming abuse. He was intoxicated and arrested within the hour by armed police. Jenkins had been at his aunt's home when the commotion started and saw the gang threatening them.

Connor Ryan

Connor Ryan, 27, of Hammond Drive in Darlington, travelled to a house on Cowper Road in the Tilery area of Stockton in a stolen Citroen C4 fitted with false number plates on May 23. He got out of the car and fired a homemade slam gun without warning at three people standing outside the front door. The group ran inside, and the car drove off. Four minutes later, the car returned but the group stayed indoors and it left. Three minutes after that, the car returned again, stopped, and Ryan fired a second shot at the house before speeding away. This was a targeted attack against the occupants. No one was injured. The car was later found abandoned, Ryan's jacket with gunshot residue was stashed in a bush, and the gun along with four shotgun cartridges was found in a bag on Headlam Court.
Cleared of attempted murder but found guilty of two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life; admitted possession of a prohibited weapon. Previous convictions for battery and robbery. Served three years in a Young Offenders' Institution at age 18. Under influence of drink and drugs at the time. Liam Bowes, aged 37, drank between eight and 10 pints as well as shots at a 50th birthday party before driving home in a friend's Volkswagen Golf. He was speeding through the streets of Durham, ran a red light, and smashed into 22-year-old Durham University student Abigail Eggleston who was crossing the A167 at Neville's Cross on October 26, 2025. He failed to stop, continued driving, and later burned out the car in an attempt to destroy evidence. He was arrested at the home he shared with his mother in Kelloe, County Durham.
Admitted causing death by dangerous driving, perverting the course of justice, driving without insurance, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. Banned from driving for 18 years and required to sit an extended re-test.

Marc Dalkin, 47, of Shannon Crescent in Stockton, sexually abused a child over 20 years ago, including attempting to rape the child. The victim reported the abuse years later to the police. Dalkin denied the offences, leading to a trial where the victim had to relive the events. The abuse ruined the victim's life for Dalkin's perverted sexual gratification.

After being asked to leave, he refused and in a drug-fuelled frenzy, used a hammer to damage walls, a knife to slash sofas, repeatedly kicked and punched her, strangled her several times, and doused her in paint and ammonia, damaging every room including her child's bedroom. The victim suffered a bleed on the brain, 11 fractures including eight ribs, nose, clavicles and sternum, internal lung injuries, and blistering, requiring two weeks in hospital.

Pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Disqualified from driving for 5 years.

Geoffrey Vanes, 40, of Windermere Road, Hartlepool, with Michael Barclay, targeted a man on August 1, 2025, at a Derwent Street house in Hartlepool town centre. Barclay climbed in via drainpipe; Vanes kicked the door and entered. Victim fell from upstairs window, suffering dislocated elbow, shoulder, and two spinal fractures. Gang kicked and stamped on him; Vanes struck him three times with a weapon, Barclay squirted liquid in his face. Involved two women and another man; arrived on bikes.
Pleaded guilty to affray and possession of an offensive weapon (denied it was a hammer). Initial GBH charge dropped due to lack of evidence on injury cause.

The attack was captured on CCTV, showing the victim holding onto a fence after being stabbed.

Liam Eland-Smith, 21, no fixed address in Middlesbrough, hours after prison release, robbed a teenage acquaintance he knew from childhood on November 14, 2025, in Darlington by holding a knife to his stomach, falsely claiming owed money, dragging him by the wrist, shoving him against a wall, taking £12, removing his shoes and attempting to remove trousers. On December 5, 2025, he confronted the same victim and friend in a subway, demanded and received £20 via ATM after threats, also taking a cigarette.
Pleaded guilty to two robberies and an attempted robbery. Sentenced by Judge Kama Melly.

Simon Martin, 35, from Thornaby, addicted to cocaine with a debt, was forced by dealers threatening to chop off his head to sell cocaine using a county lines phone in September 2024. He sent bulk messages to customers giving his home address for pickups. Police traced the pay-as-you-go device to him; he paid off £1,000 of debt in seven days. Failed to appear in court in November 2025, leading to a warrant.

Thomas Corner, 27, of Stanley, County Durham, filmed himself engaging in sexual activity in front of young children aged between two and four years old, encouraging at least one child to join in. He possessed a number of disgusting videos on his phone, including indecent images of children. He was arrested after concerns about his behaviour were raised with police, and his phone was seized, leading to the discovery of the videos.
Admitted four counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 13, and one count of making indecent images of children. Also handed a sexual harm prevention order. Described by Detective Constable Hanna Liddle as one of the worst offenders she has encountered.
