Paul Parsons
Assault occasioning actual bodily harm and coercive control *
Sentence
18 month prison term suspended for two years
Paul Parsons, 39, of Dalkeith Road in Hartlepool, launched a violent attack on his girlfriend in October 2025 after they had been out for the evening. Having taken cocaine, he slapped her with full force across her face accusing her of cheating, then exploded with anger and threw her across the kitchen. He left but took her house and car keys. When she locked him out using the spare key, he returned, called her abusive names, and forced his way inside through a window. He punched her all over her body and face, knocking her to the floor, and threatened to stab her barking dog. Later, while waiting for his cousin, he punched her again. When his cousin arrived and threatened to call police, he smashed a window. Police found him claiming it was 'play fighting'. The victim suffered bruising all over her body and a cut lip. During the relationship, Parsons was obsessively controlling, demanding her phone code, checking messages and photos, zooming in on innocuous images to accuse her of cheating, and verbally abusing her.
Pleaded guilty to coercive control and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Ordered to take part in an alcohol abstinence programme for three months, carry out 80 hours of unpaid work, attend a mental health treatment programme and 25 rehabilitation days, and attend a 'building better choices' course. Restraining order for five years prohibiting contact with former partner. Judge noted toxic relationship, paranoia, verbal abuse, and serious assault.
