Sonny Wharmsby, 44, of no fixed address, targeted the Sainsbury’s store on Castle Bridge Road on four occasions, stealing goods worth nearly £300. On Friday 3 April, shortly before 3 pm, Wharmsby entered the store with a basket, selected items from shelves and went to the self-checkout area, where he appeared to scan the goods before placing them into bags and leaving without paying. Security staff challenged him as he attempted to leave, at which point he became violent. An off-duty officer, PC Ross Morgan, who was in the store at the time, intervened and assisted staff in restraining Wharmsby until on-duty officers arrived. During the incident, PC Morgan sustained an injury to his hand.
Pleaded guilty to four counts of shop theft and to obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of their duty. Ordered to pay compensation.

She accidentally opened the wrong valve on a 1,000 litre container, causing the liquid to spray out under force. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found inadequate training, especially for workers with limited English, PPE not routinely worn due to insufficient supervision, and inadequate first aid provisions lacking a shower for large-scale exposure.

On the evening of June 5, 2025, in Ridgeway, Top Valley, Nottingham, 31-year-old Lauren Bardill parked her Mercedes car and opened the door without seeing 54-year-old Scott Catton riding an e-scooter behind her. The door clipped the e-scooter, causing Catton to fall and hit his head on the road, resulting in catastrophic injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, was over the legal alcohol limit, and had cocaine in his system. Catton never regained consciousness and died in hospital four days later after life support was switched off, two days before his wedding.
Pleaded guilty through her solicitor. Did not attend the sentencing hearing. Charged with the offence of opening the door of a vehicle so as to injure or endanger a person. Defendant believed she would face a manslaughter charge but was remorseful, stating she did not see the victim due to a blind spot.
