The offences occurred between late 2022 and early 2023. He initially believed it was legitimate but continued after realising it was illegal. He had been in custody on remand for six months prior to sentencing.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of doing an act to facilitate the commission of a breach of UK immigration law by a non-UK national. No previous convictions. Judge Michael Auty KC noted his good character since arriving in the UK in 2008, industrious work ethic, but criticised his decision to continue after realising the entry was unlawful.

David Kent, aged 43, of Albert Avenue, Jacksdale, came to the attention of the Road Crime Team at around 7.40 pm on Christmas Eve when his VW Caddy van was flagged as a vehicle of interest. Officers attempted to stop him on Alfreton Road, but he led them on an eight-minute high-speed pursuit, driving at more than twice the speed limit, entering a 30 mph zone at around 90 mph, and recklessly overtaking vehicles. He lost control attempting a right-hand turn at the junction of Stoney Lane and Mansfield Road, crashing into a garden fence. He was arrested and later explained he was heading home from a darts competition.
Pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, and three counts of drug driving. Tested positive for cocaine and cannabis. No insurance and no driving licence.

Kash Brookes, a 34-year-old father-of-four from Thistledown Road, Clifton, was operating a sophisticated drug supply enterprise involving crystal meth, cocaine, ecstasy, cannabis, magic mushrooms, ketamine, tramadol, and other substances with a street value in the tens of thousands of pounds. He was stopped by police driving a grey Audi in Sneinton Boulevard on January 15, 2026, around 7.30pm, pulling over voluntarily into Lord Nelson Street and then Thurgarton Street, admitting to possessing cannabis and cocaine. A search revealed almost 2.5kg of cannabis, 17.21g of cocaine, 379 MDMA tablets, 369 2C-B tablets, magic mushrooms, and other drugs. Analysis of his mobile phone showed use of Telegram to advertise drugs for sale. Brookes had turned to dealing to pay off a £19,000 debt left by a deceased friend, after running a successful mobile phone repair business.
Pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A, B and C drugs. Has 16 previous convictions for 34 offences including past jail terms for drugs. Recorder James Bide-Thomas noted the operation's scale and lack of insight into offending, but acknowledged his caring side and impact on his four children.

Jamie Smith, a 31-year-old prisoner at HMP Lowdham Grange, attacked prison officers during a hospital visit to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham on 9 January 2025 for treatment to a hand injury. After an X-ray, he became agitated when officers attempted to handcuff him, threatened them, and lunged at one officer with an improvised weapon (a toothbrush with a blade attached), slashing him behind the ear. He then headbutted and bit a second officer before slashing him on the back of the neck. He was restrained with help from hospital security.

Jae Wynter Merrin, 27, of Isandula Road, Basford, Nottingham, engaged in a campaign of domestic abuse against a woman he had known for 15 years since school. In 2025, after a chance meeting in Nottingham city centre, they began a relationship and he moved into her home. He soon exhibited controlling behaviour, going through her phone and becoming physical most days, repeatedly strangling her to the point she could barely breathe, apologising, then repeating the abuse. On one occasion, after she returned from drinks with her mother while he was under the influence of drugs, he strangled her for around three hours. He forbade gifts from her family. After she became pregnant and ended the relationship, he stalked her, appearing on her dog walking route and on September 17, 2025, banging on her door. In an alleyway, he threatened to kill her, her friend inside, and the unborn baby, admitting he had two knives, stabbing a fence two inches from her, and placing a blade between her lips while reiterating the threats.
Pleaded guilty. Judge commented on sustained control, repeated strangulation, stalking, and threats to kill. Has 13 previous convictions for 29 offences including wounding and possession of a bladed article. Mental health issues; taking antipsychotic medication. Restraining order imposed until further order.

Rory Helps, 28, from Wycliffe Road, Alfreton, Derbyshire, was driving an Audi A3 after consuming five pints of alcohol and being a frequent cannabis user, with a small amount of the drug found in his car's glovebox. On June 6, 2025, just before 10.45pm, he was on the wrong side of Alfreton Road, Selston, causing a head-on collision with a Suzuki Swift driven by a 19-year-old woman. His breath test showed 100 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, almost three times the legal limit of 35 micrograms. The victim suffered a broken wrist and collar bone, impacting her studies and leaving her in pain for months. Helps was stumbling and slurring his words at the scene.
Admitted drink-driving, drug-driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and possession of a class B drug.

In February 2023, during a police warrant at a house in Norton Street, Radford, where he was staying, he attempted to flush 104g of heroin worth £10,000 down a toilet, flooding the bathroom. In February 2023, police executed warrants at his flat in Belconnen Road, Bestwood, where he climbed out of a first-floor window in boxer shorts and was chased and arrested. An Aldi carrier bag thrown into a garden contained heroin and crack cocaine worth up to £35,000. Additional seizures included controlled drugs, cash, a metal press for compressing drugs, £28,186 in cryptocurrency, and bank assets.
Pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. Ran the drugs operation for six years.

Connor Hopps was involved in selling cannabis, a class B drug, for nine months to fund his own drug habit. He was pulled over in a car in Nottingham on February 3, 2022, leading to a search of his address where a phone was found containing messages evidencing the supply. The case took over three-and-a-half years to reach court. At the time, he had no employment and was associating with negative peers, but he has since reformed, living at home and working at a petrol station.

On January 28, 2026, at around 2.30am, police received a 999 call reporting a break-in at a house of multiple occupancy in Derbyshire Lane, Hucknall, where a room had been trashed and a man had been stabbed in the back. The stabbed man was taken to Queen's Medical Centre by ambulance. Ashden Middleton was arrested there, still in handcuffs, but he ran away from police, claiming 'I have not done anything'. Officers chased him to a nearby address but lost sight, and a police dog found him wedged between a shed and a fence on a driveway. He was then taken into custody.
Pleaded guilty to unlawful escape from custody. Breached existing suspended sentence order for affray and possession of a bladed article. Fined £200 for the breach. Judge James Sampson warned him about associating with bad people and encouraged him to sort his life out and get a job.
Ash Morningstar

Ash Morningstar, a 32-year-old care worker employed by Ardent Care, stole £32,974.04 from a blind, bed-bound ex-marine in his late 70s living in St Ann’s, Nottingham, over a 10-month period starting in 2022. He transferred money from the victim's account to his own and withdrew cash, spending it on OnlyFans subscriptions, Greggs, McDonald's, Primark, jewellery (£625 on March 6, 2023), airsoft equipment (£467 on April 17, 2023), and an Italian holiday. Morningstar arranged for a solicitor to visit the victim to discuss his will, though no charges relate to this. The victim, who considered Morningstar a friend, had set up online banking with his help but did not authorize the transfers. The fraud was discovered in June 2023 by the victim's social worker due to unexplained payments. The victim died after the events, leaving his remaining money to animal charities, and suffered deep psychological impact, becoming angry and distrustful.
Pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position. First-time offender. Mitigating factors include early guilty plea, remorse expressed in letters from defendant, mother, and partner. Judge described the offence as a sustained piece of wicked and dishonest behaviour against a vulnerable victim.
James Pedley
Grievous bodily harm with intent *

On October 11, 2025, James Pedley arranged to meet Mark Bonser in Morvern Avenue, Sutton-in-Ashfield, but a fight broke out. Pedley repeatedly stabbed Bonser in the torso and neck, also causing a fractured jaw and spine, leaving him bleeding on the ground near garages in Kensington Close. Pedley fled the scene in blood-soaked clothes, folding the knife and hiding it in his pocket. Bonser required emergency surgery and survived. Pedley was found hiding in a loft at a house in Dalestorth Street two days later.

On January 4, 2025, shortly before 11pm, Mattias Webb, aged 25, of Boscombe Road, Gateford, angrily beeped his horn and flashed his lights while tailgating an unmarked police vehicle in Worksop. Instead of stopping when officers activated hidden emergency lights, he overtook the vehicle and led police on a 2.5-mile chase through Worksop and Gateford in heavy rain, starting in Shireoaks Road and finishing in Boscombe Road. During the pursuit, he turned off his lights, reached speeds of 60mph in a 30mph zone, passed hundreds of residential properties, and drove through a red traffic light, endangering other road users. He headed to his home address where he was arrested after attempting to evade responsibility by running into the house and claiming he hadn't been driving, though dash cam footage captured him fleeing the van.

CCTV from an alleyway showed Harvey leaving at 10.55am. Blood swabs from the scene matched his DNA, leading to his arrest. He answered 'no comment' to most police questions and claimed he entered looking for somewhere to sleep, leaving empty-handed. The victim reported struggling to feel safe and sleep in her home since the incident.

Brett Carnelley, aged 37 and of no fixed abode, lured the victim to his workshop in Sneinton on October 10, 2023, by claiming he was struggling with his mental health. Upon her arrival, he was intoxicated and subjected her to a violent and degrading rape. Following the assault, he bombarded her with messages. The victim disclosed the incident to a neighbour in January 2025, leading to a police investigation.

At around 12.30pm, he targeted a property in Hawton Road, smashing the kitchen window and stealing jewellery belonging to the 91-year-old occupant's late wife while the victim was out for lunch. Shortly after 1.30pm, he broke into another bungalow in Bowbridge Road where the 88-year-old resident was home; he attempted to snatch her wedding ring but failed, and stole the contents of her purse. Days later, he was spotted by police in the Balderton area on Warwick Road, attempted to flee, and was chased and arrested by PC Ali Hussain. A rucksack he discarded contained a screwdriver, balaclava, and gloves.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and going equipped to steal. Committed the offences to pay off a large drug debt. Judge described him as 'cowardly' for targeting elderly victims.

The victim, who had lived in her house for 10 years, felt broken inside, anxious, and jumpy, stopping showering, caring for her appearance, and changing bedclothes. She now feels unable to stay in her home due to traumatic memories.
Pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and other offences. 10-year restraining order issued. Remanded in prison for past six months prior to sentencing.
