Paul Riina-Moretti operated three illegal waste sites: Oakham Farm, Forest Lane, near Walesby in north Nottinghamshire; Hathernware Industrial Estate, Rempstone Road, Normanton-on-the-Soar; and Horse Leys Farm, Melton Road, Burton on the Wolds. A major fire broke out at Oakham Farm in autumn 2016, taking over a month to extinguish, forcing a mother and child to move out temporarily due to smoke, destroying two poultry units, and incurring £478,000 clean-up costs for the landowner. Waste was deposited in vast quantities without an Environmental Permit and with no real plan for processing.

Paul Warrington, 24, of Conway Crescent, Carlton, raped a 19-year-old woman in woodland off Carlton Road, Thorneywood, on 7 December 2019. The victim was lost in Nottingham city centre when Warrington, who did not know her, identified her vulnerability and overpowered her. She sustained injuries during the violent assault. Police traced a car key found on the victim back to Warrington, and a DNA match from the scene confirmed his involvement. He pleaded guilty on 10 March 2020.

Mkanda chased the victim along King Street and onto Trinity Square, stabbing him five times in the back. The victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre where he required stitches. Mkanda was identified through CCTV and subsequently arrested.

Nicholas Smith, 44, of Oakenhall Avenue, Hucknall, preyed upon a young girl and raped her up to six times over a five-month period between January and June 2022, warning her not to tell anyone or they would both go to prison. He also sexually assaulted the girl, forced her to watch sexual acts and send him indecent images of herself. The investigation began when the girl revealed what happened to friends and teachers.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of raping a girl under the age of 13, sexual assault of a child, causing a child to look at sexual activity and two counts of making an indecent image of a child. Will serve a further five years on licence after release. Subject to a restraining order banning contact with the victim for life and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Nathaniel Smith

Nathaniel Smith, along with two accomplices, carried out three armed robberies at pubs in 2017. On 24 July 2017, he and others entered the Brewhouse pub, Trent Bridge, through a fire escape, threatened the manager with a knife and forced the safe to be opened, stealing around £10,000. On 9 August 2017, he took part in a robbery at the Nottingham Knight pub, West Bridgford, where a wet cloth was placed over the manager's face, scissors were held to her throat, and she was repeatedly punched; another staff member was also assaulted and the tills were emptied. On 29 August 2017, he robbed the Ferry Boat Inn, Nottingham. He was arrested after fleeing the scene and found hiding in nearby bushes with the other two men. DNA evidence, phone data and witness accounts linked him to all three offences.
Initially pleaded not guilty, changed to guilty on all three counts on the first day of the trial (16 April 2018). Five years for each robbery to run consecutively.

On January 19, 2024, around 8pm in Sneinton, police heard Natma Mahnoor revving her Mercedes engine and followed the vehicle due to suspicion and smell of cannabis. At a red light, officers saw her mobile phone on her lap playing a video. When instructed to pull over and searched, she restarted the engine, reversed with an officer hanging out of the window trying to stop her, then drove forward while resisting. She refused a drugs swipe at the scene and later at the station, also refusing blood sample. Arrested and charged with driving without due care and attention and failing to provide a sample for analysis.
Initially charged with dangerous driving but accepted lesser charges. Judge Nirmal Shant KC noted her driving fell just below dangerous driving and she deliberately refused drugs swipe due to dislike of police engagement. One previous conviction for driving offences including using fraudulent driving documentation.

Computer Misuse Act offences, voyeurism and possession of indecent images of children *

Robert Davies illegally accessed a number of victims’ devices using cyber crime tools including crypters and remote administration tools (RATs) purchased online, disguising malware to evade anti-virus detection. He spied on victims remotely, stealing sexual images mainly of females, including spying on a teenage girl through her webcam to create indecent images. Officers recovered 27 indecent images and videos of children, plus extreme pornographic images on his computer. He used fake online profiles to contact victims via messaging apps and send malicious links. Over 30 victims identified. Arrested three times between November 2019 and August 2021.
Pleaded guilty to 24 Computer Misuse Act offences, voyeurism, three counts of possessing indecent images of children, making indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornographic images. Placed on the sex offenders’ register, given a 10 year restraining order on five of the victims and a 10 year sexual harm prevention order.

On 3 January 2016 at around 3am, Robert Hessey approached a 46-year-old woman at a bus stop in Arnold while she waited for a taxi to take her the rest of her journey home. He asked to share the taxi and then invited himself into her house, where he raped her.

Richard Taylor, aged 55, of Exchange Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, assaulted multiple boys and girls in Nottingham over a 20-year period, mostly by putting his hands under their clothing. He was identified when a former victim came forward to police in 2017, leading to a major investigation with multiple witnesses and adult victims. Arrested in December 2017, he denied all allegations and remained silent in interviews. Found guilty in February 2022.

Richard Tung, 42, of Penisa'r Waun, Gwynedd, ran Fu's Restaurant in Caernarfon. He raped and sexually abused a child over a period of years prior to his time in Caernarfon. He was found guilty of two counts of raping a child under 13, two counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and indecent assault. The victim, who cannot be named, was abused from a young age and only reported the matter to police in 2022 after years of suffering anxiety, PTSD, depression and suicidal thoughts.

Raheeb Ibrahim, 25, subjected a young woman to a sustained three-month campaign of harassment and abuse. Demanding to know her location at all times, he bombarded her with text and social media messages and required video call check-ins, becoming aggressive if she failed to respond. On New Year’s Eve 2020, he flew into a rage, pushed her to the floor, and grabbed her neck. He later followed her in a hire car, yelling at her to get in, causing her to flee in panic. He was arrested on 18 January 2021 after being pulled over in his car and found in possession of cannabis. Ibrahim initially denied all allegations but later pleaded guilty.
Pleaded guilty to stalking with fear of violence, assault by beating, controlling and coercive behaviour, and cannabis possession. Also received a five-year restraining order.

On 2 July 2020, Reece Deville sent a string of abusive and threatening messages to a man. On 16 January 2022, he was stopped in Mapperley Park and found carrying a knife, a sharpened screwdriver, and cannabis; he claimed they were for cutting carpet and repairing a mobile phone. On 26 March 2022, in Clumber Street, Nottingham city centre, he approached a 37-year-old man aggressively, asked what he had, and upon being told the man had chocolates in his bag, hit him in the face and snatched the bag. Officers arrested Deville about ten minutes after the robbery and found a craft knife in his possession.
Pleaded guilty to robbery, two counts of possession of a knife, possession of an offensive weapon, sending malicious communications, and possession of a class B drug. Arrested shortly after the robbery.

Reyno Du Toit, from Goodsmoor Road, Derby, targeted five women in Nottingham's Park estate in October 2020. He exposed himself to three of them on the afternoon of 24 October in Rolleston Drive, Harlaxton Drive and Allington Road. Two days later, on 26 October, he grabbed two women walking in Lenton Road and Rolleston Drive.
Admitted two counts of sexual assault and three counts of exposure. DNA evidence from victim's jeans linked him to the crimes. Arrested in December after car linked to scenes.

Richard Barlow, a pervert music teacher, gave two underage girls cocaine and sexually assaulted them by penetrating their vaginas in a tent at the Rock and Blues Festival at Coney Grey Showground in Pentrich near Belper, Derbyshire. He was also found to have indecent images of children. One victim was left suicidal, depressed and anxious; the other constantly relives the experience.
Sentenced by Recorder Michael Auty QC for eight offences. Mitigated by Sarah Phelan. Judge noted the vulnerability of the victims due to their age and the premeditated nature of giving them cocaine.
Keenan Savage
Arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered *

Keenan Savage lit a blaze in his second floor flat in Augustine Gardens, Bestwood, on 8 November 2023, and fled the scene without alerting neighbours, putting dozens of neighbouring families at risk. Three days later, he called police claiming he had visited his flat for the first time in a month and discovered it gutted by fire. Detectives unravelled his story using CCTV footage showing him at the scene around the time the fire was lit. Fire investigators concluded the fire was deliberately ignited by naked flame in the kitchen and living room, likely using an accelerant.
Pleaded guilty to arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered. Also admitted theft from an address in Bestwood on 25 August.
Kay-Ann Morris

Kay-Ann Morris was the paternal aunt and legal guardian of seven-year-old Shanay Walker. Over a two-year period, she regularly hit Shanay with a hairbrush or shoe, force-fed her food she disliked, and dragged her along the floor. The abuse was so severe that the school made several referrals to social services. On 30–31 July 2014, Shanay ran away from her grandmother’s home but was collected by Morris around 1 a.m. In the early hours, Morris sent messages to relatives indicating something had happened to Shanay. The child was found dead at the family home in Beckhampton Road, Bestwood. Morris claimed Shanay had fallen downstairs. She was convicted of cruelty towards Shanay at Nottingham Crown Court and sentenced to 8 years’ imprisonment.
Found guilty of cruelty after an eight-week trial. The judge described her ill treatment as frequent, wicked, and lasting over two years, including hitting Shanay with a hairbrush or shoe, force-feeding, and dragging her. She was acquitted of murder.

Juanila Smikle, the paternal grandmother of Shanay Walker, was found guilty of cruelty towards Shanay and three other youngsters. Her abuse involved slapping, beatings, ice baths, and other physical assaults as common punishments. On the evening of 30 July 2014, Shanay had been in Smikle’s care in Top Valley when she ran away. Smikle later took a taxi to Morris’s home in the early hours. The court heard she had encouraged Shanay to run away that night. Smikle was convicted alongside Kay-Ann Morris at Nottingham Crown Court and sentenced to four years’ imprisonment.
Convicted of cruelty towards Shanay and three other children. The abuse included slapping, beatings, and ice baths. The judge noted her role in encouraging Shanay to run away on the night of her death. She was acquitted of cruelty towards a fifth child.
Joshua Hibbett

Joshua Hibbett, of Oakington Close, Arnold, was identified through an FBI investigation into a Russian file-sharing website used to exchange indecent images of children. In February 2018 the FBI linked email addresses using the username 'Joshua Hibbett' to a suspect in the United States and traced their owner to the UK. Nottinghamshire Police arrested him on 19 December 2018 and seized digital storage devices that contained indecent images, many stored in a folder named 'Secret' inside his gaming folder. He had also created some of the images himself and shared them on the website. Hibbett pleaded guilty to 14 charges, including the rape of a child and taking, making, possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

Joshua Peake, a doctor who qualified in 2014 and worked at Royal Derby Hospital, was caught by activist group TFN UK posing as a 14-year-old boy online. He discussed sexual matters and sent photos and videos over about a month. The group located and detained him on 15 September 2019 before calling police. Police searched his house and found 13 indecent images of children and 26 extreme pornographic images depicting sexual activity with animals on his laptops.
Admitted possessing indecent images of children, possessing extreme pornographic images, attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, and attempting to cause a child to look at an image of sexual activity. Later struck off medical register by MPTS.

Justin Lawal, a 38-year-old convicted sex offender from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, breached his sex offenders' prevention order by communicating with girls under 16. In January 2020, police attending his previous address found two underage girls present. In March 2020, he was stopped while driving and found with MDMA and cannabis, and was again in the company of girls under 16. The order had been imposed following prior convictions for sexual offences against young girls.

Kacper Ciechanski, 29, of Holden Street, Mansfield, grappled with a police officer to stop him getting his mobile phone knowing there were child abuse images on it of girls as young as six. Officers went to his address after information was received that a Google account was being used to download the images. He told them he did not have any electronic devices and had sold his mobile phone. He was arrested and an officer saw him trying to move his mobile phone in his bedroom before struggling to get control of it. There were 33 category A images, five category B and 97 category C.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children. No previous convictions. Ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work, attend 20 rehabilitation sessions, placed on sex offender register for 10 years and given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. Judge accepted genuine remorse and solitary lifestyle.
Kacper Wojciechowski
Kidnap and causing grievous bodily harm *

Having himself been the victim of a vicious kidnap and torture in a cellar on 24 November 2014, Kacper Wojciechowski took revenge on 21 December 2014. Along with his brothers, he rammed a car in Bobbersmill Road, Bobbers Mill, Nottingham, dragged Lukasz Kielb from the vehicle, bundled him into the boot of their own car, and drove to wasteland off Alfreton Road where they subjected him to a violent assault. Kielb suffered life-threatening head injuries and an open fracture to his hand requiring surgery. Kacper Wojciechowski was sentenced for kidnap and causing grievous bodily harm.

Liam Brown harassed his former long-term partner in the Carlton Hill area of Nottingham in 2019. After an argument at The Engine House pub in July, he broke her phone by putting it in his mouth and snapping it, and snapped her sunglasses. When she tried to leave by car, he grabbed her arm and twisted it, causing bruising. He also entered her home without permission while she was on holiday and sent her a video of himself there. He bombarded her with text messages, phone calls, and followed her. After reporting him to police, Brown threatened the victim and tried to pressure her to drop the charges while on police bail. He was arrested in September 2019 for witness intimidation.

He drove her to a supermarket car park, stroked her leg and attempted to drag her into the back seat. The victim secretly filmed the assault and managed to escape when he unlocked the doors.
Also given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and added to the sex offender register for 10 years. Judge Mark Watson stated: 'The victim no longer feels safe walking in the city where she lives.'

Kenneth Marriott, 46, assaulted a man at an address in Newark on 1 August 2020, tipping him from his wheelchair and causing a broken leg and displaced pelvis. The victim had a brittle bone condition, of which Marriott was aware. Marriott demanded money for drugs and alcohol and became violent when refused. After the attack, he used three stolen bank cards to make over £400 in contactless purchases for items including beer, sweets and scratch cards. He initially claimed the fall was accidental and denied using the cards, but CCTV evidence showed him making the purchases. He pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent and six counts of fraud by false representation.
Also ordered to undergo a 30-day rehabilitation programme and forbidden from contacting the victim for at least five years. Pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent and six counts of fraud by false representation.

Moments later, Podgorski confronted the victim outside, demanded the money, and threatened to shoot him. The victim fought back, pushing Podgorski in the face before fleeing back to the bookmakers. Staff called Nottinghamshire Police, who arrived quickly and collected DNA samples from Podgorski's saliva that had been transferred onto the victim's hands during the struggle. The DNA evidence led officers directly to Podgorski, who was arrested at his home on Brookfield Road, Arnold. He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery.
