Ryan Beard, aged 26, formerly of Tuxford, followed the woman and tracked her movements via a device placed in her car and a spywear app installed on her mobile phone in the weeks and months leading up to the attack. On the night of 11 May 2023, he lured her to his flat by posing as someone else, placed an imitation gun to her head and into her mouth, and filmed himself raping her. He was arrested in July when his victim came forward to police. He answered 'no comment' in interview when shown the video.
Deemed a dangerous offender. Added to the sex offenders register for life and handed a restraining order forbidding any future contact with his victim. Denied all allegations and found guilty after trial.

Haseeb Majid stabbed Mohammed Duraab Khan to death in a brutal attack at a Texaco garage forecourt in Meadow Lane, Nottingham, on January 31, 2024. The incident involved Majid inflicting up to 16 wounds in 13 seconds using a zombie-style knife, following a series of threats and vandalism related to a dispute over Majid's ex-girlfriend. Majid wore a balaclava, approached Khan who was a passenger in a black Audi, and claimed he intended only to scare him but lost control after being hit.

A probation service alert led to a search of his Hucknall address, uncovering four unregistered bank cards. Palmer had only recently been released from prison on licence for prior breaches and drug-related offences.

Previously convicted of sexual offences against a teenage girl and had prior breaches. Detective Constable Richard Johnson stressed that such orders are put in place for good reason and that brazen flouting leads to severe punishment.

Investigations revealed he had been making regular trips between the UK and Ireland, including ferry crossings and foreign holidays, contradicting his claims. He was charged in June 2020 and eventually pleaded guilty on February 13, 2024, before being remanded into custody and sentenced on July 30, 2024.

Josh Murdon was driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI at excessive speed, over 100 mph along the A611 Annesley Road bypass and around 70mph when he lost control along Hucknall Road near Linby on 20 April 2023. He was over the legal drug-drive limit for cannabis, struck a kerb while looking at his phone, causing the car to flip multiple times into a field. His passenger, a 23-year-old second cousin and close friend, sustained life-threatening injuries including 20 broken bones (skull, back, ribs) and ongoing physical and mental pain.
Pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Disqualified from driving for four years and three months.

Michael McDaid, 60, strangled his estranged wife Rachel McDaid, 53, to death with a bootlace in her home in Nottingham Road, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire on April 19, 2024. He made arrangements for a friend to care for his dog beforehand, tied loops in the lace to create a ligature, and attacked her after learning she had filed for divorce. He left the house, locked the doors from the inside, and later confessed to his son and via a 999 call. The victim had bruising to her face and broken ribs.
Pleaded guilty to murder. Judge Stuart Rafferty KC noted there was no justification for the crime and that it was in his own warped mind. Defence stated he killed his wife due to perceived emotional suffering and mental health issues.
Victor Rickett

Victor Rickett acted as a ‘look-out’ outside the former McColl’s store in Ash Crescent, Nuthall, while two men stormed in just before closing around 10pm on 29 December 2020. Shop workers were threatened with a hammer. The men stole tobacco pouches, cash from the till, and forced a shop assistant to open the safe for more money. Rickett was found in the getaway van with stolen tobacco.
Acted as a ‘look-out’ during the robbery. Pleaded guilty to robbery at the last moment before his trial was due to take place. Mobile phone showed search for ‘McColls’ one hour before the robbery.

Joseph Dowling, 38, of Catlow Walk, Rainworth, had been drinking alcohol from around 11am on Friday 19 April 2024 before becoming involved in a verbal altercation with his former partner at The Lurcher pub in Rainworth. He became abusive, threw things around in an upstairs flat, ripped a CCTV screen off the wall, refused to leave, climbed onto the pub roof at around 11.30pm, smashed windows, ripped off roof tiles and threw them near officers during a near five-hour stand-off with police until 4.30am on Saturday 20 April 2024, causing over £8,000 damage. No-one was injured.
Pleaded guilty to one count of affray and two counts of criminal damage. Previously fitted with an alcohol abstinence tag for six months but turned back to drinking following the death of his child. Remorseful. Made subject of a five-year restraining order.

Veronique John erupted into violence at her home in Flax Street, Stoke-on-Trent, on June 11, 2023, inflicting fatal injuries on her seven-year-old daughter Elizabeth, who suffered a fractured skull and knife wounds, and her 11-year-old son Ethan, who sustained more than 20 sharp force injuries including to the neck. She then stabbed her husband Nathan John in the stomach at a car wash. John called 999 admitting to killing her children, stating she acted to protect them from her husband taking them. Both children were pronounced dead at the scene despite medical efforts.
Ruled unfit to plead due to complex post-traumatic stress disorder, personality and depressive disorders; jury found her responsible for the acts in a fact-finding hearing; no previous convictions.

Edward Finn

Edward Finn, an anaesthetist from Cotgrave in Nottinghamshire, committed a series of sexual offences including sexual assault, making and taking indecent images of children, and voyeurism. His offences were discovered when unsolicited sexual images were found on a disused tablet device, revealing photos of an adult and child known to him taken without consent. Further investigation uncovered thousands of indecent images of children, including over a hundred in the most serious category, and images taken during his work. He targeted vulnerable victims, including patients, for his own gratification. Finn attempted to end his life before arrest and was charged with 12 offences, pleading guilty to nine at a hearing on 19 January 2024. Three other charges were left on file.

Anthony Green

Anthony Green, aged 51, of County Close, Beeston, lived opposite Ruth Hufton’s flat. Ms Hufton, aged 46, was found dead on 25 September 2023 after officers forced entry to her flat in County Close, Beeston, following a missing person report from her family. She had a scarf tied tightly around her neck, with post-mortem concluding death by pressure to the neck. Evidence showed Green was present in her flat prior to her death. He was arrested and charged with murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter on 10 May 2024.
Admitted manslaughter days before murder trial was due to start. Prosecutors accepted the plea. Provided police with a written statement admitting being at Ms Hufton’s flat for sexual activity but initially denied killing her.
