On 22 February 2024 at around 10pm, Matthew Sylvester attempted to break into a shop in Telford town centre using a trolley. He covered his face with a jumper and fashioned a fake firearm from a brown paper bag to mimic a handgun. When police officers PC Dan Arthur and PC George Oliver arrived in response to the report, Sylvester charged at their patrol car, pointed the imitation firearm at them, threatened PC Oliver, kicked the vehicle, and attempted to open the boot. The officers pursued and tackled him, revealing his identity as he was known to police. He was found in possession of cocaine.

Pleaded guilty to all charges halfway through a week-long trial. Of no fixed abode.

Sentence later reviewed by the Court of Appeal and increased to 12 years (11 years in prison and one year on licence) on 3 October 2024 as unduly lenient.

The kidnap was driven by family 'honour' and a £20,000 ransom was demanded. The victim later escaped by locking himself in the vehicle and driving to safety.

The joint investigation and subsequent police raids identified more than 1,000 customers.

Matthew Evans attacked his former partner at her home in Ellesmere in October 2024. After drinking together, an argument developed and Evans grabbed her by the neck, causing her to fall, then repeatedly punched her in the face while restricting her airway. The victim banged on a wall to alert neighbours and called 999; Evans tried to snatch her phone. The victim believed he had left but he was still in the property and swung at her again. He had previously sent abusive messages to the victim.

Pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation and assault by beating. The judge described him as a 'violent bully' but suspended the sentence on the recommendation of the Probation Service. He must complete 20 rehabilitation days and 175 hours of unpaid work, and pay £1,630 costs.

On 18 May 2025, Dylan McGrath went to a nightclub in Stafford with his partner and others. Before leaving he kicked her in the back, and later punched another man at the club. In a taxi home he bit his partner on the thigh, slapped her and pulled her hair. When the taxi stopped in Newport, the victim tried to run, but McGrath chased her into an alley, bit her again and took a running kick at the back of her legs. He continued beating her in a doorway, pulled her to the ground by her hair, placed her in a headlock and kicked her viciously. A bystander intervened before police arrived. McGrath fled and was caught in the grounds of a school.

Pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and common assault. Also made subject to a 10-year restraining order. The judge described the offending as 'despicable' and 'vile' but suspended the sentence because of personal mitigation and prospects for rehabilitation.
