On June 16, 2025, Thomas Dear Jr threw a brick at his father Thomas Dear Sr's van during an altercation on Windsor Road, Newark, striking him in the head through the open driver side window, causing significant head trauma. This followed an earlier altercation at the family home on Tolney Lane involving criminal damage, and a confrontation on Albert Street where the father chased the son with a garden tool and threatened him. The father suffered a cardiac arrest en route to hospital and was pronounced dead at 5.42pm. The act was described as impulsive and spontaneous, with the brick picked up spontaneously.
Pleaded guilty to manslaughter on November 10. Sentencing took into account his guilty plea, age (19 at time of offence), immaturity, genuine remorse, and substantial mitigation from pre-sentence report. Between March 2021 and May 2023, he dishonestly appropriated at least £149,000 from her account without her consent. The stolen money was spent on paying off debts, online gambling, and other lifestyle expenses. The fraud was discovered after the woman moved full-time into a care home in Newark, where she was warned that her funds were depleted and she would need council support. Jenkins claimed the payments were mutually agreed loans to be repaid in instalments, but investigators found this unrealistic given the amounts and her age. Some repayments were made, but not sufficient.
