Caine Lonsdale, 34, murdered his friend Jonathan Dittia, 40, by inflicting 63 separate wounds in Mr. Dittia's flat in Clifton, Nottinghamshire, on September 17, 2024. The attack involved stamping on Mr. Dittia's head, throttling him with a phone charging cable, and leaving him dead or dying for about an hour and a half. Lonsdale then ordered pizza, was seen on CCTV wearing blood-stained trainers, visited his father's address to confess, and called 999. Mr. Dittia was vulnerable, with learning difficulties, and the incident occurred in his own home.
Defence claimed genuine remorse and no intent to kill; low IQ of 72 and chronic alcohol problem impaired logical thought; judge described the attack as merciless and sustained, noting intoxication as a disinhibitor and that prior custody of 216 days would be deducted.

A neighbourhood sergeant spotted Banton and a woman in distress entering a taxi in Station Street. The taxi was stopped for welfare check, leading to Banton's search. Officers found more than £600 in cash and around £2,000 worth of crack cocaine and heroin in his coat pockets. This followed a previous incident in November 2023 where he was found with heroin, cocaine, and £30,000 cash after a drug deal, resulting in a two-year suspended sentence.

He sent a series of inappropriate, sexualised messages and met with the girl multiple times in Nottinghamshire, kissing her. The messages were discovered by the girl's mother, leading to police involvement. Hope, of Chatham Street, Leigh, was tracked down, refused to provide device login details, and gave no-comment answers in interview but later pleaded guilty.
Pleaded guilty to meeting a girl under 16 years of age following grooming, two counts of causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity, and three offences under the Child Abduction Act. Made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order restricting online activities and access to children.
