Assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault *
Sentence
2 years and 9 months imprisonment
Andrew Gray, a 43-year-old dad-of-two from Abercarn Way, Bulwell, assaulted a woman in her Nottingham home. On May 30, 2025, after an argument following her return from a memorial service, Gray grabbed her by the hair, pulled her around, smashed her head against the bedroom wall, pushed her to the floor, stamped on her ribs and face, causing her to lose consciousness. He refused to let her go to hospital, used Sellotape on her wounds, and told her to keep the attack secret. On June 30, 2025, after drinking vodka, he kicked her several times in the stomach and face during another argument. The victim reported constant nightmares, fear like facing 'the Incredible Hulk', and is seeking safe housing through Nottingham City Council. Gray had recently been released from a six-year sentence for a 2018 robbery where he threatened a woman with a machete in her home in front of her child.
Admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault. Judge Philip Head noted that most of his violence is due to alcohol abuse and described the attacks as a gross abuse of the victim's hospitality. Also handed a three-and-a-half-year restraining order. Has 45 previous offences including a 2018 machete robbery and two other domestic violence incidents.
