As they walked past his home on Brighton Road shortly after midnight, O’Regan emerged armed with a metal wrench, repeatedly striking Williams on the head while shouting threats to kill him, leaving Williams with 10 laceration wounds, confused and barely conscious. Thomas tried to intervene and called police, but O’Regan hit her arm with the wrench, causing three bruises and knocking the phone from her hand. Police found the bloodied wrench in his living room. He was approached by the group on April 1, 2023, in Wrexham and arrested. In interview, he admitted believing the girls were 14 or 15. He had a prior SHPO from February 2021 after conviction for making indecent images of children, plus previous convictions for sexual communication with a child and non-penetrative sexual assault on a child.
