Under the influence of cannabis since age 14 and having bought £50 of cocaine the day before, he stabbed his grandmother multiple times in her first-floor flat using one knife, causing injuries treated with sutures at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. He then rushed downstairs, locked himself in Mrs Hughes-King's flat, and stabbed her multiple times with a second knife, puncturing her lung and fracturing her ribs. Police burst in and Tasered him, stopping the attack. Mrs Hughes-King was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital, spoke to her children fearing death, and was discharged after three days but suffers permanent scars, flashbacks, and psychological trauma.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder. Branded 'extraordinarily dangerous' by the judge. Must serve two thirds before parole. Concurrent sentences of 12 years and 30 years.

He led a four-minute chase through suburban streets, mounting pavements, driving at 45mph in a 20mph zone, and going the wrong way around a roundabout. Police nudged his bike to stop him. He was arrested and tested positive for cannabis just over the legal limit.
Pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and motoring offences. Judge commented he was 'just being an idiot' with poor impulse control. Over legal limit for cannabis. No driving licence or insurance.

Owen Addleton, 22, from Chester Road West, Shotton, Deeside, met a 15-year-old girl on Snapchat in March 2024, pretending to be 16, and engaged in a sexual relationship with her, requesting nude images. Despite bail conditions, he continued contact by providing her another phone. Digital analysis of his devices revealed over 2,000 files showing sexual interest in children, including more than 100 indecent images of the most serious category, some of children as young as two, and a collection of schoolgirls in uniforms. He also searched online for ways to hide items from police.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child and four counts of making indecent images of a child. Made to register as a sex offender for life, subjected to a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely, and two 10-year restraining orders to protect the victims.

On February 23, 2025, Thomas Iveson, aged 30, went to the home of Craig Joseph Richardson, 37, in the Plas Madoc area of Acrefair. Both had consumed cocaine and alcohol. Richardson, who was paranoid and erratic, headbutted Iveson in the bedroom doorway. Iveson responded with three punches to Richardson's face with full force, causing catastrophic facial injuries, bleeding in the windpipe and airways, and eventual death from airway obstruction after inhaling blood. Iveson heard blood gargling in Richardson's throat but left without seeking help or calling emergency services. He was arrested later that day.

She suffered neck, shoulder, and back pain, feared for her unborn son, and was hospitalized for checks. Her daughter screamed hysterically and became anxious about car travel. Rerek was interviewed after dashcam footage was reviewed and denied the offence but was found guilty on October 29, 2025.

Paul Ince

On June 12, 2023, Paul Ince, 31, of Cefn Road, Wrexham, stormed downstairs from a first-floor flat in Pont Wen, Pentre Gwyn, and punched 59-year-old John Ithell in the back garden after Ithell arrived seeking drugs. The single punch sent Ithell reeling four or five feet into a wooden fence, causing him to fall and bang his head on a concrete path, resulting in a fractured skull and brain bleed. Ithell, who was extremely frail, weighed eight and a half stones, and was 30 years older than Ince, walked away but was later found concussed in a hedge by a cyclist. Ince deliberately moved him to a bench to distance himself. Ithell died four hours later at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The attack occurred in front of Ithell's friend Rebecca Baldini, who fled fearing for her safety. Ince showed no remorse and was sentenced for this act of 'mindless, drunken aggression'.
Found guilty of manslaughter after being cleared of murder. Branded 'cynical' and 'remorseless' by the judge. Lied about the incident, suggesting it was a 'mere push'. Not deemed a dangerous offender, so determinate sentence; to serve at least two thirds.

In March 2025, Benjamin Williams, 25, of Foxes Close, Mancot, Flintshire, took his friend Karrie Williams' Volvo car without permission while staying at her home. Around 2am, police spotted the car facing the wrong way in a one-way street. A prolonged high-speed chase ensued along the A55 towards Colwyn Bay, where he reached speeds of 115mph in 70mph and 50mph zones, 80mph in 20mph zones, went the wrong way around roundabouts and bollards, and attempted to evade by taking side streets and looping back. The car collided with another vehicle during the pursuit. Police deployed a stinger device in Old Colwyn to stop the car, which was damaged. Williams was arrested, found clearly under the influence of drugs, and taken to hospital with ketamine in possession. The car owner suffered significant emotional distress, requiring anti-depressants and taxis, as her insurance declined coverage.
Pleaded guilty to motoring offences. Disqualified from driving for 4 years and 8 months. Concurrent 8 months for aggravated vehicle taking, and 2 weeks each for failing to surrender and breaching bail. Endorsed for no insurance and failing to stop. David Griffiths

David Griffiths, 76, of Lyons Caravan Park, Ruthin, contacted an online decoy profile posing as a 13-year-old girl named 'Megan' for about a year between January 31, 2023, and January 1, 2024. He sent messages, selfies, photos of himself in underwear and a basque with private parts visible, intimate videos, and discussed sexual topics. He edited photos to make it seem like they were together and used an AI-generated image of the decoy with large breasts. The decoy was operated by the vigilante group Innocent Voices, who traced him and livestreamed their confrontation.
Pleaded guilty. Concurrent sentence for attempting to cause a child aged 13 to 15 to watch a sexual act. No further penalty for making an incident image in category C. On December 9, 2020, in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, James Price, driving a Peugeot 208, cut a corner and accelerated on the wrong side of Nant Hall Road, ploughing into pedestrian Paul Astbury who was crossing at the junction with Bodnant Avenue. Astbury was thrown onto the bonnet and landed 5-10 metres away with life-changing injuries including a broken left thigh requiring a metal plate and 12 screws, a burst kidney, and 15 days in hospital. Price exited the vehicle, ignored Astbury's two pleas to call an ambulance, dragged him further into the centre of the road potentially into the path of traffic, then fled. He attempted to hide and repair the car. Traced after a year, he was jailed today.
Pleaded guilty last month after initial denial. Judge found no remorse due to delay in admission. Must pass extended retest.
Dafydd Harper

On September 9, 2025, Dafydd Harper, 43, of no fixed address, had an argument in The Midland pub in Wrexham and left. He was followed by two men onto High Street. CCTV showed him turning and making a slashing motion with a Stanley knife towards them. He then attempted to hide the knife and spare blades in a flowerbed on Lord Street, but a member of the public found and handed them to police. Harper was arrested and gave no comment in interview.
Pleaded guilty. Serving consecutively after current 42-week sentence for unrelated offences. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, on medication. Judge noted loss of temper influenced by drink, occurred on busy street with children present.
Christopher Campbell

Christopher Campbell, 32, of Rhosddu Road, Wrexham, subjected his former partner to a year-long campaign of verbal and physical abuse to gain control, including isolating her from friends and family, becoming abusive if she did not answer the phone immediately, threatening to kill her, and physically attacking her. On one occasion, he pointed a knife at her throat after attacking her at home. In February 2025, he held a knife to his mother's throat and cut his stepfather's wrist with the weapon following an incident. He was arrested and remanded into custody.
Admitted offences of controlling and coercive behaviour, threatening his mother and stepfather with a knife, and wounding. Handed two ten-year restraining orders to protect his mother and stepfather. District Inspector Rhodri Ifans commended the victims' bravery.
Cassie Evans

On August 18, 2025, at around 6pm in Lord Street, Wrexham city centre, Cassie Evans, who had consumed a litre of gin before leaving home and additional drinks, became angry and agitated towards Aled Roberts during a gathering near benches where tensions rose after some teenagers approached the group. Earlier in the day, something had happened between Evans and Roberts. CCTV footage showed Evans walking to a bin, smashing a bottle against it, and then striking Roberts in the neck with the neck of the broken bottle in a determined assault intent on inflicting a significant wound. Roberts suffered a one to two inch wound which was cleaned and closed with steri strips at hospital; he declined further treatment. He now fears consequences, feels paranoid, scared, and depressed. Police were called and Evans arrested.
Admitted wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. Concurrent 8-month sentence for offensive weapon offence. Five-year restraining order prohibiting contact with victim. Judge noted consumption of a litre of gin prior to incident.

Michael Barrie Kennedy operated as an illegal lender over an eight-year period, targeting approximately 30 victims, mostly colleagues from the Chester branch of a restaurant chain where he worked as a waiter. He advertised informally via word of mouth and Facebook posts, falsely claiming backing by a partner to intimidate borrowers, trapping them in spiralling debt.

Bradley Underwood

Bradley Underwood, 28, from Bridgewater Street, Sale, Manchester, was in an on-off relationship with the victim that turned toxic. During an off period, the woman went for a drink with his friends in Holywell, Flintshire. Underwood threatened to 'smash your head in' if she had a relationship with any of them. On September 17, he hit her on the head with the handle of a screwdriver. On other occasions that month, he punched and kicked her back, arms, and legs. He also caused criminal damage to her mobile phone.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Concurrent 1 month for criminal damage to mobile phone. Judge described the attack as 'brutal' and 'terrifying'. Defendant has ADHD and emotionally unstable personality disorder.
John Leonard Atherton

John Leonard Atherton, 39, of East Parade, Rhyl, committed two assaults on his former partner. On December 8, 2024, after returning home intoxicated, he dragged her by the hair, punched her face, and threatened to put a pickaxe through her head, causing swelling and a lump. In April 2025, he sent suicidal threats, entered her home at 2am on April 6, accused her of infidelity, headbutted her while holding a knife to her chest, threw a knife at her car, and smashed her car window, leaving her covered in glass and bleeding. She fled to Rhyl Police Station. Atherton was arrested after a chase and expressed regret, citing heartbreak.

One burglary occurred while a family was on holiday. On July 16, 2025, he was spotted in a stolen vehicle, leading police on a high-speed chase reaching speeds of 100mph in 30mph zones, driving dangerously around bends and roundabouts. He fled on foot but was arrested hours later.
Entered early guilty pleas; has 22 convictions for 81 offences including theft and motoring crimes; police were commended for their work in capturing him.

On May 26, Shaun Royce pressed a lit cigarette onto his mother's forehead for about ten seconds at her supported living flat in Wrexham, threatened her with a large serrated knife, and set fire to a table cloth, causing flames up to 50 cm high. He smashed windows and damaged the flat extensively. Later, on June 10-11, he breached bail conditions, struggled with police officers, and made threats to harm their families. The incident left his mother fearing for her life and resulted in significant damage costing over £1,400 for window replacements alone.
