Conspiracy to supply class C drugs *
Sentence
5 years imprisonment
Lee Ablitt, 52, of Hoy Drive, Newton-le-Willows, and Christopher Thompson conspired to supply class C drugs on a major scale, storing industrial amounts including 1,326,000 steroid tablets and 64,870 millilitres of liquid steroids worth £1.5m to £2.1m across North Wales and north-west England. Two self-storage containers in Rhyl registered to Ablitt contained significant quantities of steroids, performance enhancing drugs, and £483,968 in cash in a suitcase with Ablitt's DNA. Tristan Roberts
Murder *
Sentence
Life imprisonment with minimum term of 22 years and six months
Tristan Roberts, 18, murdered his mother Angela Shellis, 45, by attacking her with a hammer and strangling her in their home in Coniston Drive, Prestatyn, starting on the evening of October 23, 2023. He recorded the attack on a dictaphone, including a two-hour conversation where she begged for help. He then forced her to wear a balaclava and walk to Coed y Morfa nature reserve, where he struck her head at least four times with a lump hammer in the early hours of October 24, 2023. After the killing, he boasted online on Discord about the attack, describing smashing her skull with a sledgehammer. Her body was found in undergrowth by walkers later that morning. In the weeks prior, Roberts posted about murder fantasies, researched weapons via AI, and expressed hatred of women.
Pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing. Judge Rhys Rowlands commented on the defendant's control over his mother and the dreadful nature of the attack by her own son. Defendant diagnosed with autism and ADHD; deteriorating mental health contributed but did not provide a defence. Prior conviction for possessing a knife.
