Clayton Perfect, of Charter Street, Gillingham, let himself into a property in Hoo at 4.45am on Sunday 4 October 2020, where he attempted to stab the first victim in the neck, causing slash injuries to the neck after the victim moved. The knife became stuck in a wall. He then armed himself with another knife from the kitchen and stabbed a second man in the left arm and caused a slash injury across his chest. He fled the scene and was arrested at 7.20am in the Barker Road area of Maidstone. A matching set of distinctive rose copper gold kitchen knives was found with one missing, and he admitted to a family member that he had stabbed someone.
Admitted one charge of attempted murder and one charge of grievous bodily harm with intent.

On Saturday 12 November 2022, George McRaye and his brother Thomas entered a gambling outlet in Week Street, Maidstone, drinking alcohol purchased elsewhere despite no alcohol licence. They refused to leave when asked by staff. A security guard intervened; they became abusive, pushed the guard. George pulled a large kitchen knife from his waistband and passed it to Thomas, who advanced slashing at the victim multiple times while George threw a bar stool. An associate intervened; they left towards King Street. Police arrested them near a taxi rank; knife recovered from rubbish bin.
Pleaded guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife in a public place. Aged 34, of no fixed address.

Gareth Lucas repeatedly sent explicit images to the profiles of two children he believed were only 14 years old. Operating under the alias of ‘Garfuncle Lucas’, between 2 August and 13 November 2019 he accessed Facebook and instant messaging apps to seek out and contact victims. Despite receiving several replies clearly stating they were 14 and at school, Lucas bombarded two children with messages of an explicit nature, urging them to engage in sexual activity and to send him indecent images. Lucas also made efforts to meet one of them in Sevenoaks, where he planned to carry out abuse on a train. Unbeknown to him, the children did not exist – their profiles were linked to fictitious accounts operated by police. He was arrested in Tunbridge Wells on 12 November 2019.
Admitted two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and three counts of attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity. Found guilty of attempting to arrange or facilitate the commission of a child sex offence following a trial. Subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and added to the sex offender register for life.
Frank Matthews
Conspiracy to burgle *

Frank Matthews, Jimmy Price and Lewis Collins conspired to steal livery valued at around £100,000 at up to eight separate properties between 3 May and 17 May 2020. The gang targeted stables and other rural premises during the hours of darkness in areas including Faversham, Paddock Wood, East Peckham, Mereworth, Blue Bell Hill, Sittingbourne, Kemsing and Maidstone. Forcing open doors and disabling alarms, the men stole equine equipment before making off in vehicles, sometimes across open fields. After a break-in at stables near Bearsted, Maidstone on 17 May, investigators identified the suspects had been using a Vauxhall Zafira. On the following day, Matthews was driving the vehicle dangerously through residential areas in Maidstone until it halted due to a mechanical issue, leading to their arrest.

They were identified on CCTV and arrested the following month.

During the morning of Thursday 8 February 2024, Gavin Lawless drove to High Halstow in a VW Polo and parked near the centre of the village. He then broke into a house while the residents were away and stole jewellery and watches, before returning home to Gillingham in the car. A neighbour noticed him acting suspiciously and took down the registration of his car, leading to his quick identification via CCTV and arrest on 9 February. Stolen items were recovered from a bag, the VW, and his home.

On Saturday 10 July 2021, Gavin Prodger, from Rochester, took cocaine before driving his Audi at 47mph in a 30mph zone on Watling Street in Dartford. He had defective eyesight and was using his mobile phone to send a photograph moments before striking 10-year-old Lily Lockwood at around 6.50pm as she crossed the road to join friends in the local park after checking the road was clear. Lily died in hospital. Prodger failed an impairment test at the scene and had cocaine and benzoylecgonine in his system.
Pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving while over the prescribed limit for cocaine and benzoylecgonine, and to possession of cocaine. Minimum of eight years before parole eligibility, plus two years on licence. Disqualified from driving until 2040 and Audi forfeited.
Ghandi Mallak

On the evening of 26 February 2022, in Chatham High Street, Ghandi Mallak and others approached a man in his 20s at a cash machine, threatened him with a knife, pushed him against the ATM, searched his pockets, and stole his phone and bank cards. Mallak assaulted a member of the public who intervened, causing grazing and bruises to the face. Officers arrested Mallak nearby, finding 17 wraps of class A drugs in his sock.
Pleaded guilty to robbery, possession of cocaine with intent to supply, possession of heroin with intent to supply, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Sentence included terms for being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine in Sussex in September 2021.

Gheorghe Ciobotaru, along with accomplices Gabriel Zaharia and Valentin Ciobotaru, targeted jewellery at addresses in north and west Kent and Essex. On 5 February 2022, they travelled to Sevenoaks in a silver Mercedes, forced a window open at a house in Hillydeal Road, and targeted further addresses in Shoreham Lane Sevenoaks, Leyton Cross Road Dartford, and Summerhouse Drive Bexley. They ransacked the premises and stole jewellery. They were also responsible for two burglaries in Loughton, Essex on 4 February 2022. Arrested on 9 February 2022 in the Mercedes in Ilford, Greater London.
Pleaded guilty to six burglaries. The judge ordered that the car used by the criminals should be sold to compensate victims.

Gerard Keane, a 61-year-old man from Swanley in Kent, approached a woman with learning difficulties in a steam room at a public swimming pool in Tonbridge on 1 May 2018, followed her into a shower area and sexually assaulted her. The assault was witnessed by another visitor, who notified the victim's support worker. Police were alerted and Keane was arrested two days later at his home in The Oaks, Swanley. Evidence showed prior grooming attempts via social media.
Pleaded not guilty to charges of causing or inciting a person with a mental disorder impeding choice to engage in sexual activity and sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder impeding choice. Convicted by jury after trial. Also made subject of an indefinite restraining order and added to the sex offenders’ register.

Glyn Taylor was part of a criminal gang with brothers Aaron and Gray Elcombe supplying cocaine with a street value of more than £5 million via the EncroChat encrypted messaging service. The gang's activities were uncovered after decryption of EncroChat messages in spring 2020, leading to an investigation by Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate. Arrested on 29 September 2021.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of being concerned in the supply of cocaine and three counts of possessing drugs with intent to supply. Age 44, from Maidstone.

Gordon Burgess, a former bus driver of Thorn Hill Road, Warden, Sheerness, Kent, ME12, raped a teenager twice without using any protection. The victim reported the abuse to Childline after feeling trapped. She gave evidence via TV link, demonstrating extraordinary fortitude as praised by the judge.

Judge noted seriousness self-evident, aggravating feature of no protection used, limited mitigation due to poor health and family man. Grant Jeffery from Tonbridge took complete control over his partner's life over a number of years, bullying her, dictating what she could wear (demanding loose clothing), isolating her from friends and family, keeping curtains and blinds shut, and using threats and intimidation. The victim lost weight and was admitted to hospital in September 2023. While she was undergoing treatment, Jeffery visited, called her repeatedly, and kept her phone on video call to monitor her. He also assaulted her at the hospital. On 21 September, Kent Police arrested him at a bus stop outside the hospital.
Pleaded guilty to coercive and controlling behaviour. Subject to a 10-year restraining order.
Grant Searle
Conspiring to burgle a business, conspiring to burgle homes and robbery *

Grant Searle and Joseph Hoadley stole an ATM from Northfleet Food and Wine on High Street using a Ford Transit van to ram raid the shop front on 28 November 2019, causing £11,000 damage. Searle drove the van away after Hoadley pulled the ATM free. They also robbed staff at a Co-op in Talbot Lane, Ebbsfleet on 8 December 2019 using threats and a hammer to access the safe. Additionally, they committed burglaries targeting homes in Gravesend, Dartford and Meopham between 25 November and 4 December 2019, stealing vehicles, a car, an air rifle and a luxury watch.
Admitted conspiring to burgle a business, conspiring to burgle homes and robbery. Also sentenced for two counts of fraud, handling stolen goods, possessing ammunition when prohibited and possessing articles for use in fraud committed outside Kent. Aged 29, of no fixed address.

Brothers Aaron and Gray Elcombe were part of a criminal gang supplying cocaine with a street value of more than £5 million via the EncroChat encrypted messaging service, using handles Tasteful Revolver, Urban Bonsai and Striking Boat. They arranged to buy and sell at least 60 kilograms of the Class A drug almost daily throughout most of 2020. Arrested on 29 September 2021 following decryption of EncroChat messages by law enforcement and investigation by Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.
Admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine and possession of criminal property (£5,000 cash seized). Age 54, previously from Kings Hill. Pleaded guilty. Committed offences whilst on licence from previous drugs supply offences.
Glen Heaton
Causing death by dangerous driving *

During the early evening of 26 October 2020, a 69-year-old man was walking over a pedestrian crossing on Main Road, Chattenden, when he was struck by a Peugeot 208 GTI driven by Glen Heaton, who had been travelling towards Hoo. The vehicle came to a halt almost 100 metres past the crossing. The Peugeot had been travelling in excess of the speed limit. Emergency services attended and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Heaton, from Hoo, was arrested and blood analysis confirmed cannabis levels above the legal limit.
Pleaded guilty. Cannabis levels above legal limit. Disqualified from driving for six years on release and must take an extended driving test. Second count of causing death without due care and attention while over the drug limit ordered to lie on file.
Endrion Marfana

Endrion Marfana, 21, from Tunbridge Wells, was driving a Skoda Octavia which was stopped by police on 2 December 2022 in Longfield Road. He claimed to be Italian and provided a false name matching the registered keeper of the car. During a drug search, eight wraps of cocaine were recovered from inside a plastic chewing gum container. Officers also seized £95 cash and his phone, which contained text messages arranging the sale of drugs consistent with a drug dealing system using postcodes by an organised crime group. He gave a false name and nationality but was exposed as Albanian when he could not understand an Italian translator.
Pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply, possession of criminal property (namely the seized cash) and driving without insurance. Forfeited the seized £95 cash and received six points on his licence.

Between 2019 and 2021, committed a series of vicious offences across Medway and Edenbridge, including stabbing a man in the arm with a broken glass bottle in Gillingham on 10 August 2019 after an argument outside a property in Livingstone Road, robbing a woman of her car keys in Rochester on 20 September 2019 after throwing a paving slab through a window, and assaulting four Kent Police officers in Edenbridge on the night of 24/25 September 2021 while in possession of a knife and breaching a restraining order, biting one officer and requiring a taser to subdue.

On 9 September 2022 at 7pm, Fuggles, 45, from Maidstone, posed as a police officer at a Maidstone address, convinced a vulnerable man he was suspected of an offence, obtained two bank cards and PINs under threat of arrest, withdrew £500 from a cash machine, then took a further £40 from his wallet promising to return. She returned on 10 September but fled when he said he had called police. On 12 September 2022 at 6.30am, she posed as a housing officer, let herself into another vulnerable man's home, stole his bank card and withdrew over £150 before fleeing when challenged by his care assistant. Charged with burglary, two counts of theft, and two counts of fraud; total over £700 stolen.
Pleaded not specified. Prolific offender with a history of criminal activity. Investigating officer DC Mark Beeching noted she repeatedly exploited vulnerable members of the community.
Emma Weller
Perverting the course of public justice *

Emma Weller staged her own robbery, attempted rape and stalking, framing her former lover Paul Miller, a prison officer. Over around 3 months in 2020, she created fake social media accounts to send herself and her new partner harassing messages purporting to be from Miller, leading to his arrest on 23.04.20 for stalking and harassment. She created a fake dating profile 'Tara' to threaten her own rape on 27.05.20 in Mote Park, resulting in Miller's second arrest. The next day on 28.05.20, she falsely alleged being robbed and sexually assaulted by a masked assailant matching Miller's description, leading to his third arrest for robbery and attempted rape. Police investigation revealed Weller was behind all fake communications and self-inflicted injuries.
Pleaded guilty to one count of perverting the course of public justice. Of previous good character, has two children and has worked in various healthcare positions.

Emmanuel Agbaje groomed nine teenage girls online using social media between September 2021 and August 2022. He pretended to be someone else, built trust, convinced them to send intimate photos, then blackmailed them by threatening to distribute the images unless they met him. At meetings, he raped and sexually abused the victims, threatening harm to prevent them reporting, including sending one victim a photo of their front door.
Pleaded guilty to 30 charges including two counts of rape, 10 counts of sexual activity with a child and nine counts of blackmail. Deemed ‘dangerous’ by the judge. Must serve at least two thirds before applying for parole. Subject to 4-year licence period upon release. Added to Sex Offender Register for life.

Sonny Maughan and Emmanuel Scarrott stole more than £400,000 from six victims using deceptive techniques including rogue trading with sub-standard building work at extortionate prices on homes in Longfield, Herne Bay, Greenwich, Chatham, Hampshire, and Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, targeting elderly and vulnerable individuals. Scarrott posed as a police officer in Lordswood to scam an additional £32,500. Both arrested on 10 November 2020 after leaving the Longfield victim's address.

He fled the country on 21 April 2019 to avoid arrest and was extradited from Romania on 29 July 2020.

Ardila-Ruiz and Diaz were arrested on 11 February near Maidstone after attempting the same tyre-slash distraction theft on another salesman. The gang concealed their faces with balaclavas, ordered staff to sit and remain silent, kicked open an internal door and ransacked the stock room, stealing phones and tablets valued at almost £30,000. They fled in an Audi A5 getaway car which was intercepted on the M25 near Dartford River Crossing less than an hour later.

Edward Midgley

During the afternoon of 13 November 2023, Edward Midgley entered the reception area of the Medway Police Station in Purser Way Gillingham. He poured fluid from a jar over the counter, used a lighter to set fire to a rag soaked in an accelerant and threw it onto the counter, but the burning rag went out. A member of police staff raised the alarm. An officer sought to detain Midgley as he tried to leave and was assaulted. Midgley was taken into custody.
Pleaded guilty to arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered, and assaulting an emergency worker.
Eglant Lleshi

In the early hours of 17 September 2020, near Chatham in Common Road, Blue Bell Hill, Lleshi was stopped by police while driving a Ford Kuga. Suspected of possessing controlled drugs, he reversed into one officer, injuring her, and injured a second officer trying to restrain him. He ran over the first officer a second time before fleeing. The vehicle was found abandoned with cocaine worth £1,000-£2,000 in the footwell. Lleshi fled to Italy, was arrested on 5 April 2023 pursuant to a European Arrest Warrant, and extradited.

Douglas Brown targeted a vulnerable pensioner in Wateringbury, near Maidstone, four times between 2 April 2021 and 16 April 2021. He used a screwdriver to force open the front door while the occupant was out, stealing bank cards, cash, and using the cards fraudulently in Maidstone to buy tobacco, cigarettes, foodstuffs, and a bus day pass. He was arrested on 22 April 2021 at his home in Wateringbury following an investigation.
Pleaded guilty to four burglaries and eleven fraud offences.

D'Quan Samuel, 25, of Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham, among masked intruders in violent house raid in Coxheath near Maidstone two days before Christmas. Armed with machete and crowbar, forced entry, savagely beat brothers Dean and Ben Sharp. Baby and partner present. Stole 2-3kg cannabis and Tissot watch.
Convicted of aggravated burglary after trial. Intruder.
Drilon Dishi

Drilon Dishi played an important role in a criminal operation which ran cannabis cultivations in Ashford, Canvey Island and Hertfordshire between August 2019 and August 2020. The operation is estimated to have been worth more than £1 million. More than 485 plants were seized during a complex investigation by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, along with half a kilo of harvested cannabis and cash in excess of £61,000.
Previously pleaded guilty. Played an important role in the operation. Twelfth offender sentenced, with all offenders serving close to 43 years in prison between them.

Derek Gale

In March 2013, Derek Gale set fire to curtains at his Boundary Road home in Ramsgate during a drink-fuelled row with girlfriend Donna Gray as their eight-year relationship disintegrated. He told her 'you’re not going to get out of here alive'. She escaped with their two children aged five and two. Neighbour Nicola Harris rescued their one-year-old baby from an upstairs bedroom through dense smoke using a mobile phone torch. Gale dragged the flaming curtain rail into the street and fled to his parents’ house without assisting his family. Neighbours extinguished the fire with pots of water.
Found guilty of arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered. Appeal against sentence rejected by Criminal Court of Appeal in London. Prior conviction for criminal damage in 2005. Drinking and failure to assist family aggravated the offence.
Dimeiro Campbell

Dimeiro Campbell and a 16-year-old boy approached a teenager in Gillingham town centre on High Street on 9 March 2023 and stabbed him multiple times after a short conversation. The victim suffered multiple injuries including an arterial bleed from a wound in one of his arms. They fled the scene but were identified via CCTV, arrested on 10 March, and one knife was recovered near Campbell’s home in Gillingham.
Pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of a knife in a public place.
Alex Batista
Attempted murder *

Alex Batista, 30, of no fixed address, carried out a planned and premeditated attack on the landlord (victim aged in his 50s) of the Cricketers Inn in Wrotham Road at around 9.15pm on 5 November 2022. He arrived armed with knives and a garden spade, launching a ferocious and brutal assault involving multiple stab wounds and beatings in the upstairs residential area above the pub. An associate involved in the assault was found deceased nearby after the victim used a weapon in self-defence. Batista fled the scene but was arrested after his vehicle was located on the M20 junction with the M25.
Found guilty by a jury after denying the charge. Will have to serve two thirds of his sentence before he can be considered for parole. Premeditated attack stemming from a grievance with the victim, with whom he used to work.

Being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis *

Alex Underwood operated as a drug dealer in the Tunbridge Wells area, sending almost 10,000 drugs supply messages from his phone in three months between the end of September 2023 and early January 2024 to more than 150 contacts. His network was dismantled following intelligence-led patrols. On 5 March 2024, he was stopped in Leigh near Tonbridge while walking to his VW Passat, where police seized a stab vest, scales, multiple deal bags, and two mobile handsets matched to active supply lines.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, and possessing cannabis.

Admitted conspiracy to burgle. 13 months for burglary + 6 months for breach of suspended sentence. Basis of plea as middle man rejected. 5 prior convictions.
