His female passenger suffered extensive injuries requiring over two months in hospital. Fernando was over twice the drink drive limit (77ug breath, 127mg blood).

Simon Taylor, a 43-year-old former soldier and teacher at Hethersett Academy in Norfolk, sexually abused a teenage schoolgirl pupil over more than two years, starting while she was at school and continuing after she left. He touched her thigh under her skirt at school, touched her breasts in his car on two occasions, engaged in sexual communication with her via the school's messaging platform (later deleted), sent her indecent images of his genitalia, and messaged her about sexual acts he hoped to perform. He manipulated her into believing he was the only one who cared, threatened self-harm to obtain images from her, and expressed desire to have sex with her and meet outside school. The victim reported him to police in 2022 and informed his wife. Taylor lost part of his right leg in a 2009 roadside bomb incident in Afghanistan.
Pleaded guilty to five offences. Ordered to sign the sex offenders register, barred from working with children, and made subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order. Judge Andrew Shaw noted grooming and manipulation, but no link to PTSD from military service.

Rodney Johnston carried out disturbing and truly awful abuse over three decades, forcing his victim to have sex with as many as 1,000 men through coercion, threats, and intimidation. The abuse occurred during outings to secluded woodland or pre-arranged hotel rooms where the victim was made to engage sexually with multiple men. Detectives discovered around 30,000 pictures and videos documenting the abuse.
Convicted of multiple offences including three counts of procuring a woman to have sexual intercourse by threats or intimidation, two counts of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and one count of witness intimidation. Judge Alice Robinson noted it was difficult to comprehend how appalling his offending was, with a multitude of aggravating factors including failure to accept responsibility.

On February 29, 2024, Ashley Francis, 27, stabbed his 81-year-old grandfather, Mervyn Francis, in the neck at his grandparents' house in Hockwold while experiencing psychosis and hearing voices. This spontaneous act was carried out in front of his grandmother using a knife he brought from home. His grandfather was taken to hospital, underwent surgery, but died on March 7, 2024. Francis was arrested at the scene and charged with murder, but a defence of insanity was accepted.
Found not guilty by reason of insanity due to major mental illness. The order means he cannot be released without Ministry of Justice approval. He had been inconsistent in taking his medication, and the act was spontaneous while he was psychotic and hearing voices.
Kleovrotos Thomadakis

On September 26, 2024, Kleovrotos Thomadakis barricaded himself inside St Martin's Church in Overstrand, Norfolk, while armed with a machete. He made threats to set the church alight and seriously injure anyone who entered. Police negotiators attempted to resolve the situation, but armed officers eventually entered and confronted him. Thomadakis physically resisted, stabbing an officer in the knee, before being subdued with tasers and arrested. He was taken to hospital for assessment and later to custody for questioning and charging.

Christopher Norris, 38, of Wight Drive, Caister-on-Sea, Norfolk, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted sexual communication with children. In August 2024 and between 14 and 19 September of the previous year, while already on bail for the first offence, he initiated online chats with what he believed were girls aged 13 and 14. In fact these were decoy accounts operated by undercover operatives. Norris sought topless photographs for his sexual gratification, offering to pay the girls for the images.

Officers executed a warrant at the property on Chestnut Road, Pulham St Mary, on August 30, 2023, locating containers of suspected Class A (cocaine) and Class B (cannabis) drugs, as well as drug paraphernalia. Rumsey was arrested and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, later charged with a number of drug offences.
Pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to four drug-related charges.

Cristina Curt, aged 27, of Russell Street, Peterborough, was part of an organised shoplifting gang that targeted Tesco stores across the UK, stealing around £48,000 worth of stock, primarily cosmetics and healthcare items. The offences spanned 17 police force areas between April and September 2024, with the majority of charged thefts occurring in July 2024 accounting for almost £16,000. Her highest value single theft was £3,341. She was recognised by a security guard in a King’s Lynn store on 12 October 2024, leading to her arrest. Investigations by Norfolk Police and Tesco revealed a total of 42 offences, including 16 charged thefts, eight attempted thefts, and 18 additional thefts taken into consideration.

Lee Green broke into a house in Hall Road, Norwich, in October 2023, forcing the back door open with a shovel. The whole house was raided, with knives taken from the kitchen and left in different rooms. Items stolen included a TV, sentimental jewellery, and binoculars. Three white gloves discarded at the scene provided a DNA match to Green. He was arrested at his home in Scarlet Road on October 29, where stolen property from Hall Road and other items including a Chanel bracelet were recovered. Further DNA on knives and CCTV evidence linked him to the scene. He was further arrested on January 11.
Admitted to burglary and handling stolen goods. Six further offences taken into consideration: one burglary dwelling, three burglary other than dwelling, and two thefts of copper cabling between July 2019 and April 2023.
Malcolm Waite
Causing death by dangerous driving *

Malcolm Waite, 68, a retired engineer from Meadow Drive, Hoveton, Norfolk, was heavily intoxicated, with his Lexus containing a half-empty bottle of vodka. On July 31, 2023, he swerved onto the pavement of the A149 Wayford Road at Stalham, hitting and killing 20-year-old Fenella Hawes and injuring a 16-year-old pedestrian who suffered cuts and bruising. Waite failed to stop, continuing for 800 metres before veering off the road, hitting a road sign and lamppost. He was found inside the car with glazed eyes and slurred speech, later admitting to hospital staff he had drunk 'two bottles'.
Plea of guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. Described as 'the drunkest person I have ever seen behind the wheel of a car' by a police officer. Driving disqualification for 11 years until an extended test is passed. Appeal against sentence dismissed by the Court of Appeal.

Derek Campbell, during a violent argument with his former partner, grabbed her chihuahua named Snowy by the neck and flung it against a door in a home on Philadelphia Lane, Norwich, on February 2, 2024, breaking the dog's neck and causing its immediate death. This followed an assault where he pinned the victim against a wall, hit her with a bottle of wine, and punched her. The act was described as sadistic, involving significant force, and caused pain, fear, and distress to the animal. Campbell was arrested a couple of days later.
Pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and common assault. Has 72 previous convictions. Judge noted his propensity to resort quickly to violence and that the offence was so serious only immediate custody was justified. Also disqualified from owning or keeping animals for 10 years.

Vincent Oladukun encountered two girls after getting out of a taxi in Filby, near Great Yarmouth, in the early hours of August 2, 2023. He had been drinking and gave them vodka. He asked one girl's age, and although she was 12, she said she was 16. He then exposed himself and orally raped her at a bus stop, with the incident lasting between 30 seconds and a few minutes. Afterwards, they walked to a shut pub before the victim fled and reported the crime. Oladukun was arrested in the Great Yarmouth area and stood trial.
Found guilty after trial; admitted to possession of cannabis, assault by beating of an emergency worker, criminal damage, and assault on a police officer. Judge Alice Robinson described it as an opportunistic attack where he took advantage of the child's vulnerability. He protested his innocence during sentencing.

John Robson, from Gorleston, engaged in romance fraud by seeking out vulnerable women online and pretending to be in relationships with them to scam money and heirlooms. In 2021, he defrauded a woman in Bournemouth of over £7,000 by claiming it was for moving costs and family emergencies. In 2023, he took gold jewellery worth £10,000 from another victim under the pretense of cleaning it, which he pawned for £1,900, and also borrowed £150 for a motorhome that was never purchased. The offences occurred between 2021 and 2023.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and four counts of fraud. PC David Moran described him as a serial romance fraudster who targeted vulnerable women online.
David Lawty

David Lawty, a 62-year-old parish councillor from Walpole St Peter in Norfolk, sexually assaulted a woman on December 8, 2023. He groped her breasts and bottom, placed his hands around her neck, verbally abused her, and threatened to rape her, saying, 'I'm going to rape you whether you like it or not.' When the victim called 999, Lawty attempted to force her to retract the call. At the time of the attack, he was subject to a suspended sentence for a previous assault. He initially denied the charges but pleaded guilty on the first day of his trial at Norwich Crown Court in August 2024. Judge Andrew Shaw imposed the sentence, noting the sexual harm and threats of violence.
Pleaded guilty on the first day of trial. David Lawty was a parish councillor who was already subject to a suspended sentence for a previous assault and actual bodily harm against another woman. An indefinite restraining order was imposed and he was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
