On 3 December 2025 in Belmont Road, Southampton, Vickrum Digwa stabbed 18-year-old university student Henry Nowak four times with an 8-inch ceremonial knife. Digwa falsely claimed Henry had racially abused him and knocked his turban off, and told police he was the victim, causing officers to arrest and handcuff the dying Henry. Henry pleaded for help but lost consciousness and died. Digwa was also convicted of carrying the 21cm blade in public.
Found guilty of murder and carrying a ceremonial knife in public. Claimed self-defence and falsely alleged racial abuse, leading to police arresting the dying victim. Judge William Mousley KC described the victim as defenceless and said Digwa showed callous disregard by filming him as he lay dying.

On 3 May 2024, Richard Charles Brown used false identification documents to hire a Yanmar SV26 excavator worth approximately £33,500 from a plant hire company in Salisbury. The digger was delivered to his home address in Bursledon. When the hire company attempted to recover it at the end of the agreed period, Brown blocked their number and became obstructive. Investigators found the excavator had been moved from the address just hours after delivery. Brown pleaded guilty to fraud and theft at Southampton Crown Court on 13 March. He was sentenced on 22 May to 15 months imprisonment for fraud and 12 months for theft, to run concurrently.

On 20th January 2024, Ross Shepherd (then 19) launched unprovoked drunken attacks at The Pour House pub in West Street, Ringwood, punching two men. The first victim was knocked unconscious for 12 minutes, suffering a strong headache for days and now avoids certain pubs due to feeling on edge. The second victim was punched while trying to de-escalate the situation and now worries about safety in his hometown, recently leaving a beer festival upon spotting Shepherd's associates.
Pleaded guilty to ABH and battery on second day of trial. Described as immature and remorseful. Ordered to pay £500 compensation to ABH victim and £75 to battery victim. Judge warned of potential for one-punch murders.

Mark Savage, a convicted paedophile, was found in possession of banned internet-enabled devices including SD cards, USB sticks, a Firestick, and a Chromecast during a police check-up in January 2026 at his parents' home in Fritham Close, Totton. These devices violated his 10-year sexual harm order imposed in January 2025 following his previous conviction for possession of extreme abuse images, including the rape of a four-year-old girl. He had continued searching for indecent images while on remand. A forensic examination of the items had not yet been carried out. He has a prior conviction for exposing himself to a nine-year-old schoolgirl in 2007.
Sentenced to another 10 months' jail, to serve half concurrently to the sentence he is presently serving. Has ADHD and autism, memory disorder and learning disability. Defence argued he might not have realised he had the banned devices due to poor memory and cluttered room. Judge ordered forfeiture of the devices seized.

On July 12, 2022, Musafar Hotak, 25, approached a woman in her 20s who had become separated from friends after leaving a Southampton nightclub and was under the influence of alcohol in a vulnerable state. CCTV captured him leading her from the city centre to a family member's flat where he was staying. He then raped her and assaulted her by penetration in a violent and terrifying assault, ignoring her repeated protests to stop. The victim escaped the flat moments after the attack, sought help from a passer-by, and called 999. She was taken to a Sexual Assault Referral Centre where forensic swabs were obtained. Over two years later, the DNA was matched to Hotak during an investigation into other criminal matters.
Found guilty after trial. Initially denied involvement and tried to blame family members, later claimed consensual sex. Prosecutors proved otherwise using CCTV, DNA evidence, victim impact statement, and eyewitness accounts.
John William Smith

On 1st February 2025, Anna Bogusiewicz, a 45-year-old dental technician from Wraysbury, Berkshire, was driving home after visiting a friend in Totton when she pulled onto the hard shoulder near junction two of the M27 near Ower. She failed to see the vehicle ahead where Jordan Chiedozie was changing a tyre after returning from a football match in Devon. Bogusiewicz, who had consumed alcohol, smashed into him, leaving the 31-year-old with life-changing injuries including the loss of his right leg, open fractures on his left leg, and a cracked pelvis. She was breathalysed at the scene with 60 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, later confirmed at 55 micrograms, exceeding the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink-driving. Disqualified from driving for three years. Expressed palpable remorse and took responsibility.
Edward Brandt

Between September 11, 2023, and May 12, 2024, Edward Brandt, a 61-year-old former councillor and professional sailor from the Isle of Wight, sent at least 17 emails and three phone messages to Dame Penny Mordaunt, MP for Portsmouth North, and turned up at her constituency office out-of-hours. He ignored a verbal police warning and breached a conditional caution issued in April 2024 by failing to complete a victim awareness course and not contacting her. On May 6 and 10, 2024, he left voicemails stating he would continue trying to meet her. In December 2025, he committed seven breaches of a stalking protection order by failing to notify police of internet-capable devices and creating accounts on Facebook and Snapchat. The behaviour caused Dame Penny to fear sexual violence due to its creepy nature, leading her to increase security, change routines, and live in constant fear and exhaustion.
Found guilty of stalking; acquitted of more serious stalking charge. Sentenced to 12 weeks for stalking and 8 weeks consecutively for seven breaches of stalking protection order. Judge noted real risk of reoffending and significant impact on victim. Defence cited neurodiverse condition reducing responsibility.

Ian Della-Rocca, a 39-year-old man from North Baddesley, Hampshire, targeted vulnerable teenage girls online between January 2023 and November 2024. He used Snapchat to groom them and paid for indecent images and videos. He engaged in sexual communications with an undercover police officer posing as a 14-year-old girl, leading to his arrest in November 2024. Examination of his phone revealed nearly 1,200 indecent images of children. He had been in contact with three real teenage girls, met one 15-year-old in person, and drove her to school. He admitted multiple child sex offences at Southampton Crown Court.

He also used her phone to impersonate her and reassure others. This left her in debt, unable to pay day-to-day expenses, and fearful of losing her house. She suffered from COPD.
Pleaded guilty to one count of controlling or coercive behaviour. Judge Gary Lucie stated only a custodial sentence was justifiable due to the severity, abuse of trust, intimidation of vulnerable victim, and persistent action over a prolonged period.

Levent Joshua Cetin, aged 27, of New Road, Southampton, committed non-recent sexual offences against a female child known to him. Between 2011 and 2017 in the Romsey area of Hampshire, he subjected the victim to two rapes and one sexual assault. The crimes came to light when they were reported to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary in March 2021, leading to an investigation. Cetin was found guilty at Southampton Crown Court on 12 September 2025 and sentenced on 24 October 2025 to two years and six months in prison. The court also imposed a seven-year sexual harm prevention order, a lifetime restraining order, and placed him on the sex offenders' register for life.

On Christmas Eve 2023, at around 9.45pm in Hythe, Leo Williams was driving a Hyundai i30 with Harlem Humphrey as passenger when an altercation occurred with a group of merry men walking from The Glen pub. After a minor incident near traffic lights and a confrontation at Tesco petrol station in Applemore where the victim and a friend entered his car and were ejected, a traffic cone was thrown at his vehicle as he drove away. Williams retrieved a tyre iron from the car and chased the men on foot, shouting threats including 'I'm going to f****** kill you', but turned back before the collision. Humphrey then drove the car and hit the victim. Williams returned to the scene to report the incident to police, claiming he was not driving.
Admitted possessing an offensive weapon (tyre iron). Of good character, full-time carer for his mother and works for Oyster Yachts. Judge warned him against taking the law into his own hands.

After a minor incident near traffic lights and a further confrontation at Tesco petrol station in Applemore where the victim and a friend entered Williams' Hyundai i30 and were told to leave, a traffic cone was thrown at the car as Williams drove away. Williams chased the men on foot with a tyre iron, shouting threats. Humphrey then moved to the driver's seat and pursued the group in the vehicle, mounting the pavement and knocking down the 25-year-old victim, who suffered two collapsed lungs, facial injuries, fractured ribs, and a fractured collarbone requiring surgery. Humphrey drove off but the car later returned to the scene. He claimed he acted impulsively to protect Williams, not intending to hit anyone.
Pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Of previous good character but has ADHD. Banned from driving for three years. Judge noted the driving was extremely dangerous and caused grave injuries.
