No illegal material found.

Rauf, a former taxi driver, was central to the operation, using his position to transport victims and facilitate the abuse at various locations including takeaways and private flats. The case came to light following investigations by Greater Manchester Police, revealing how the gang had groomed and abused dozens of girls, with victims often from troubled backgrounds. In May 2012, at Liverpool Crown Court, Rauf was convicted of conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with children under 16, trafficking for sexual exploitation, and other serious offences. He was sentenced to six years in prison. The judge highlighted the 'sickening' nature of the crimes, noting the profound impact on victims. One victim described being 'passed around like a Chinese takeaway', plied with drugs to ensure compliance.

On Saturday 13 March 2021, Hollis was driving a Merseyrail service from Liverpool Central to Kirkby, due to arrive at 6.52pm. The speed limit for the approach to Kirkby station is 15mph, but the train travelled at 40mph. Hollis applied the emergency brakes but the train collided with the buffer stop, causing it to derail with an estimated £450,000 damage to the station. Twelve passengers and a guard on board sustained minor injuries. Phone analysis showed Hollis sent a WhatsApp message at 6.51.34pm, 26 seconds before the crash. He admitted his phone should have been turned off in the cab.
Pleaded guilty at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on 8 February. Dismissed by Merseyrail in September 2021.
Patrick Sullivan

Patrick Sullivan, of Cleveleys Avenue, Widnes, Cheshire, followed a 21-year-old woman home from the bar where she worked, having been drinking there. Just after midnight on January 26, during heavy snowfall, on a quiet residential road of terraced houses near Cross Street in Widnes, he jumped on her from behind, strangled her with his arm, wrestled her to the ground, punched her face, and went straight for her jeans with intent to commit rape or a very serious sexual offence. The victim offered her money and phone to stop the assault, but he was not interested. He was disturbed during the incident, fled, and was identified via footprints in the snow leading to his arrest.
Admitted ABH but denied sexual motive; found guilty of intent to commit a sexual offence at trial. Judge Andrew Hatton described the offence as 'a young woman's worst nightmare' and Sullivan as an 'extremely dangerous sexual predator'. Will serve at least two thirds of sentence before release on licence for six years. Placed on sex offenders' register for life.

Oliver Roughley, aged 24, from St Helens, carried out a three-year campaign of sexual abuse against a boy starting when the victim was seven. The abuse escalated to rapes in cubicles at a swimming baths in South Liverpool and at Splash World water park in Southport. Police found 32 indecent images of the boy on his phone and further indecent images of other children on his computer. The victim suffered severe trauma, attempting suicide multiple times, and his mother described the devastating impact on the family. Roughley denied all offences but was convicted of four counts of rape, six counts of sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, producing, making and possessing indecent images.

Breached existing 10-year SOPO from 2011 (community order for possessing/distributing indecent images) and 16-month suspended sentence from July 2020 for unsupervised contact with children. NCA raid on May 7, 2021 found multiple devices with wiped data and chats about sexually abusing children.
Admitted three new counts of breaching his SOPO and breaching the suspended sentence imposed in July 2020. Recorder Ian Harris activated 12 months of the previous suspended sentence and imposed a new Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 15 years. He targeted her family with death threats and created fake social media accounts to spread false information including their home address. Police launched a manhunt and, after a public appeal on 9 June 2025, officers arrested him following a brief foot chase when he attempted to flee into woodland.
Pleaded guilty to stalking and causing serious alarm and harassment. Also given an indefinite restraining order. PC James Unsworth stated Bassnett taunted police on social media while on the run.

Offences occurred in October and November 2021 shortly after his release from a previous prison sentence.

Ryan Palin, 36, of Mereworth, Caldy, was identified as a participant in an international drugs conspiracy through an encrypted phone found with a distinctive mural of Connor McGregor on a wall at his home. Examination of encrypted data revealed he was involved in a conspiracy to supply 700kg of cocaine, 15kg of heroin and 40kg of amphetamine between 1 July 2019 and 12 May 2020, using the handle Titch.com. Officers executed a warrant at his address on 9 December 2021, seizing high-value items before he was arrested, charged and remanded. Despite the evidence, he denied the charges and was found guilty by a jury. His sentencing followed an operation involving European law enforcement agencies that cracked the Encrochat encryption service.
Pleaded not guilty but found guilty by jury. High-value clothing worth £136,000 and watches worth £129,000 seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Roman Fletcher, of Halton Road, Runcorn, Cheshire, breached his Sexual Harm Prevention Order on three occasions by attending children's football matches at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub in Warrington. On September 26, 2021, he was seen at the side of the pitch, giving an offside decision, talking to a six-year-old fan, and playing football with youths aged 10-12. On October 10, he returned, ran the line, and played in goal with children aged 8-13. On November 7, he played football with boys aged 9-12 before fleeing when police were called. He was spotted by FA coach Natalie Pinnington, who recognised him from prior interactions and knew he was barred from working with children.
Admitted three breaches of his 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Recorder Ian Harris noted Fletcher's history of grooming children, autism diagnosis did not reduce culpability, and actions were cunning and deceptive. Prior convictions in 2017 (youth referral order for four offences of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity) and 2019 (12 months imprisonment for one similar offence).

Ronald Hardcastle, a retired Merseyside Police officer, was found with 275 indecent images of children on his Samsung mobile phone, including 18 images in the most serious category depicting child rape. The images, comprising 202 videos and 29 photographs, were downloaded via Kik Messenger using the username 'Bad Uncle James'. A search warrant at his home in Kirkby on 16 February 2021, following an NCA investigation, led to the discovery. He also possessed extreme pornography involving bestiality. Hardcastle admitted his actions were wrong but denied sexual interest in children. He had previously worked in child protection roles categorising such material for Greater Manchester Police. He pleaded guilty to seven offences: possessing and making indecent images of children, possessing extreme porn, and distribution.

Roy Neilson, of Fairmead Road, Moreton, Wirral, Merseyside, downloaded more than 14,670 indecent images of children as young as two being sexually abused onto his HP laptop, including 1,296 Category A images showing children in distress or pain. Police traced his IP address from a tip-off, seized the laptop, and also recovered parts of a manual from a Japanese pornographic website detailing how to rape children, which he had bookmarked.
Pleaded guilty. Judge Stuart Driver QC stated that immediate custody was appropriate due to the volume of images, the young age of the children, their distress, and the paedophile manual as an unusual and unpleasant feature.

Roy Rogers, of Croyde Road, Speke, Liverpool, took sexual photographs of a vulnerable schoolgirl with learning difficulties, including naked pictures and one of her breasts while pulling up her top. He used Samsung Galaxy Wearable software to turn some images into watch faces for his smart watch. He engaged in sexual communication, claiming to be her boyfriend and refusing to delete the images. The behaviour came to light when the victim told a teacher.

He had accessed child pornography online; National Crime Agency raided his home in May 2021, seizing devices with 36 category A images, 38 category B and 137 category C.
Pleaded guilty to oral rape of the child, two offences of causing or inciting him to engage in sexual activity and three offences of taking indecent photographs of the boy. Previously received a community order for downloading 147 indecent images. Judge Denis Watson, QC, described behaviour as grotesque and serious offending, sentencing on basis victim aged five and offences on same day; poses high risk of re-offending against children. This caused extensive damage, with one company losing £3 million and a solicitors firm going into administration.

Michael Collins, 35, of no fixed address, entered a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old schoolgirl via Facebook last summer after release from prison. They met, had sex including while she was in school uniform, drank vodka, took cocaine and cannabis. He became possessive, threatened to throw acid in her face and stab her outside school due to jealousy. Relationship discovered in November after she confided in a teacher. He arrived in a stolen car on December 31 at her new address and was arrested the next day.
Pleaded guilty to six offences involving sexual activity with a child, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Judge noted it was accepted as a loving and caring relationship but threats were made.
