Between January 8 and May 13, 2020, he used chat forums to discuss sexual abuse of children and shared two child rape videos, one involving a five-year-old girl and another a girl of about three. Devices seized from his Warrington home on May 12, 2020.
Admitted possession of indecent images of a child, three counts of making indecent images, distributing indecent images of a child and possession of extreme pornographic images. Of effective previous good character. Judge noted remorse and difficulties in life but imposed immediate custody.

The offences came to light following an investigation by Merseyside Police. In July of the previous year, reports emerged of the abuse, and Ward was charged with six sex offences. He pleaded guilty to three counts: assault by touching and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, but was found guilty at trial of rape of a child and assault by penetration. A victim's photo and DNA from blood on a third woman who chased him led to his identification. He was a Syrian national seeking asylum, living in a Toxteth hostel.

At around 2am, the victim, who was extremely intoxicated, approached 32-year-old Ashirat Ismail to ask for a light. Despite the victim's lack of recollection, CCTV footage captured Ismail repeatedly kissing her face and neck, hugging her, and attempting to kiss her lips without her consent. The assault added to the victim's distress following a separate rape incident earlier that night. Ismail was convicted after a three-day trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

Barry Warner, 51, of Bedford Road, Birkdale, sent vile sexual messages to a 13-year-old girl on social media, manipulating conversations to become sexual in nature, asking to exchange pictures. The girl suspected he was a paedophile, drew him in to incriminate himself, then reported him to police via her mother. Warner initially denied knowing her age but evidence showed otherwise.
Pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a child. Judge Recorder Ian Unsworth QC described it as pre-planned, predatory sexual behaviour. Also placed on the sex offenders' register and given a restraining order, both for 10 years.

Discussed sex, offered to travel to her home in Rochdale for sex in her mother's bed while mum was out, despite her saying she was scared. Offered to pay train fare. Caught by Elusive Child Protection Unit at snooker club in Liverpool on July 25, 2020, and arrested.
Admitted attempted sexual communication with a child, attempting to cause a child to look at sexual activity, and attempting to arrange a child sex offence. Plea entitled him to 15% reduction after attempt to withdraw was refused. Ordered to sign Sex Offenders Register and comply with Sexual Harm Prevention Order indefinitely. Barry Worrall entered a room when his victim was sleeping in Gleneagles Drive, Haydock, St. Helens, Merseyside, and started kissing her. She woke up and told him to stop, but when she went back to sleep, she woke again to find him raping her. She pleaded with him to stop and tried to struggle but he continued. After the rape, he walked off and smoked a cigarette. He then intimidated a relative to whom the victim disclosed the attack by driving past her home and shouting threats. He denied the offences but was found guilty of rape and pleaded guilty to witness intimidation.
Found guilty of rape after trial. Pleaded guilty to witness intimidation. 40 previous convictions including possession of offensive weapons, criminal damage, public order offences, shoplifting, harassment and breaching court orders. Must sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

He fled to Sweden, suffered a stroke in 2020, was extradited, stood trial in January and was convicted.

Bradley Roberts had a unit at Powderworks Lane industrial estate in Melling registered to him. In early February 2024, police executed a warrant and seized firearms including a Skorpion submachine gun, ammunition, and a carrier bag with three bags of white powder containing 300g of ketamine worth up to £6,000. Roberts' DNA was found on the drug packaging, three sets of scales, multiple bags, a plastic container and gloves. He was arrested at his home on St Andrews Close in Maghull, wearing a dressing gown. He provided a prepared statement saying he rented the unit with another person but feared naming them, denied knowledge of some items, drugs, firearms or bicycles, then answered no comment.
Pleaded guilty to possessing ketamine with intent to supply. Involved due to own use, supplying to friends. Sentencing judge described ketamine as 'literally corrosive to bodies'. Sentence later reduced on appeal.

Bruno Nunes Da Silva raped a woman in the Black Rabbit bar on Fleet Street, Liverpool city centre, during the evening of September 16. He had come from Dublin to watch Liverpool FC play at Anfield and went on a night out. He made eye contact with the woman dancing with friends, danced with her, kissed her briefly and she kissed back initially. She then moved away to sit with her friend. CCTV showed him approach, unzip his trousers and push the tip of his penis into her mouth. She pushed him away, grabbed her drink and ran outside where she collapsed crying and vomiting. Her friends comforted her. A male friend detained Da Silva outside and handed him to door staff who passed him to police.
Pleaded guilty to rape. Ordered to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life. Judge accepted he was genuinely remorseful but emphasised duty to protect young women. No prior convictions.
David Moriarty

David Morris, 52, of St Helens, and his partner Julie Morris met on dating app Plenty of Fish in 2016. They filmed themselves abusing and raping a girl under the age of 13 on Sandfield Road, Eccleston, St Helens, WA10. They exchanged 175,000 pages of sexually explicit messages over three years and set up a group chat with the victim discussing abuse. Police found conversations about child sexual abuse on his phone during a search warrant; devices seized showed recordings of rape and sexual abuse. They attempted to evade police by heading to the Lake District in a camper van with £10,000.
Admitted 34 offences including seven counts of rape, 13 of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, two of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, taking, possessing and distributing indecent images, two counts of engaging in sexual communications with a child, three counts of voyeurism, possession of an extreme pornographic image and possession of a prohibited image of a child. On July 12, 2020, Dhanji Punja preyed on a lone woman walking on Lord Street in Liverpool city centre. He grabbed her, dragged her across the street towards the secluded Dorans Lane, calling her a 'f****** b****', with intent to sexually assault her. She fought to get away but was unable to. Three security guards intervened, and he was arrested. The victim was left distressed, shocked, and now fears going out alone, suffers anxiety, and avoids Liverpool city centre.
Pleaded guilty to kidnap and kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence. Judge ruled he intended to sexually assault the victim. On 8 December 2024, Dimitri Prassinos, aged 41, went to the home of his ex-partner Lydia Itiokiet in Liverpool while drunk. He assaulted her by striking her face, knocking her to the floor, stamping on her hands and arms, and strangling her while saying 'I'm going to choke you out'. She believed she was going to die. He also threatened her 16-year-old son. The victim suffered bruising, swelling, and ongoing psychological effects including flashbacks and inability to work.

Donna Wells was employed as the service manager at Young Addaction Halton, a charity supporting people with alcohol, drugs or mental health issues. Between January 2018 and January 2020, she authorised invoice payments to unknown suppliers and transferred charity funds into four separate bank accounts, three of which were her own. She also used the mobile sandwich bar of Francis Jones, a friend’s husband, to launder part of the money, with over £42,800 paid to Jones’ Butty Bar. In total she defrauded the charity of more than £150,000. After pleading guilty to fraud by false representation and acquiring criminal property, she failed to appear for sentencing on 2 December 2022 and fled to Turkey. She was sentenced in her absence at Liverpool Crown Court on 5 June 2023. She was later detained by Turkish authorities, deported back to the UK and appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on 22 August 2023, where the four-year sentence was confirmed.

Christopher McIntyre, of Risbury Road, Norris Green, started chatting to the schoolgirl victim on Instagram in 2019, provided her with a secret mobile phone, sent explicit images, groomed her, met up and raped her on three occasions, and sexually assaulted her twice. He warned her not to tell anyone, leading to her self-harming and multiple suicide attempts, one nearly successful.

Christopher Watts was arrested in April after police raided his home on Hambleton Close, Widnes, Cheshire, following intelligence about searching for indecent content online. Police found hundreds of indecent pictures of children on his devices, including 109 Category A, 143 Category B, and extreme images involving child rape and bestiality. He denied possession initially but was re-arrested in November.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images, two counts of possessing indecent images and one count of possessing a prohibited image. To serve half in prison and remainder on licence. Subject to a sexual harm prevention order. Prior convictions for indecent assault and indecency with a child.
Colin Popplewell

Colin Popplewell followed a 70-year-old man home after a road rage incident in Timperley on July 26, 2016. He undertook the victim's vehicle aggressively, and after a confrontation, he followed the victim to his home in Lymm. At the victim's home, Popplewell confronted him, shouting and swearing, then punched him several times to the head and face, knocking out his teeth. The victim required stitches and a two-and-a-half-hour operation to remove shattered and fractured teeth.
Pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Also imposed three-year restraining order. Recorder Mary Loram described the attack as cowardly and vicious.
Colin Robinson

Between September 12 and 18, 2019, Colin Robinson, using the online name Aged Mariner, engaged in highly sexualised conversations with an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl on Chat To You, Kik Messenger, Gmail and Skype. He encouraged her to bunk off school to meet him, sent a 55-second indecent video of himself masturbating, made sexual remarks, and referenced her proximity down the M57 motorway.
Pleaded guilty to five offences. Ordered to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years. No previous sexual convictions.
Colin Waring

Colin Waring engaged in online chats with an undercover police officer posing as a mother named 'Jennie' on Kik Messenger between April 30 and May 5, 2020. He expressed desire to rape her fictional daughters aged 8 and 12, sent a child rape video (Category A) and indecent photo (Category B) on May 4, 2020, and a photo of his penis labelled 'Ped Dad'. Arrested and stood trial, convicted following five-day trial.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of distributing indecent images of children. Convicted by jury (11-1) of two counts of intentionally encouraging the commission of rape of a child under 13. Ordered to sign Sex Offenders Register and comply with Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life.
Chloe Dixon

Chloe Dixon, 26, from News Lane in Rainford, and partner Scott Geraghty sexually abused a teenage girl by plying her with alcohol during party games like 'spin the bottle' and 'truth or dare', daring her to perform sexual acts. The prosecution detailed the manipulative games, and the judge noted Dixon's active role. Dixon was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, engaging in sexual communications with a child, and possession of indecent images of children.

Christopher Barnes

Christopher Barnes, a qualified masseur from Wellington Street, Garston, Liverpool, sexually assaulted three women by touching their breasts and groins during massages at his Rose Lane clinic after being arrested and interviewed by police in April 2018 for similar offences against two other women. In total, he molested eight women, abusing his position of trust with customers seeking treatment for pain and stress. Additional victims came forward after media reports of his earlier offences.
Jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting three women. Previously pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault in June 2019 and received 20 months imprisonment suspended for two years. Judge Neil Flewitt QC noted aggravating features including continued offending after arrest and interview by police, offences against eight women total indicating planning, abuse of position of trust as qualified masseur, denial of offences and lack of remorse. Subject to a sexual offences prevention order on release.

In June 2023, Daniel Kelly, 36, from Callands, Warrington, engaged in online chats with an individual he believed was a 13-year-old girl. The person was actually a member of the Saving Our Children Online paedophile hunter group. Kelly made explicit comments, called her 'sexy', requested nude photographs, and sent a photo of himself in his underwear. He was charged with attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child and two counts of attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity. Members of the group confronted him at the Patten Arms Hotel in Warrington, and Cheshire Police arrested him. He was sentenced to 30 months' immediate imprisonment at Liverpool Crown Court.
Recorder David Knifton imposed the sentence. Kelly was also issued with a sexual harm prevention order and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for 10 years.
John Bailey
Sexual assault of a child *

John Bailey, a 38-year-old man from Warrington, groomed a 12-year-old schoolgirl and her friends by purchasing vapes and alcohol for them before luring them back to his flat. Once there, he kissed the victim and touched her inappropriately, including attempting to place his hand under her clothing. The offence occurred in February 2020. A complaint was made to Cheshire Police by staff at the victim’s school, leading to Bailey’s arrest. He initially offered no comment during interview, and the investigation was closed after the victim withdrew her complaint. However, in March 2026, Bailey contacted the police himself, admitting the offence during what he described as an “existential crisis” linked to his mental health. At Liverpool Crown Court, Bailey appeared via video-link from HMP Altcourse and was sentenced after pleading guilty.
Pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child. Judge Anil Murray described the behaviour as grooming and noted Bailey’s remorse as a mitigating factor. Bailey was ordered to sign the sex offender register for 10 years and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
John Bishop

John Bishop, previously convicted of child sex offences, breached his indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order by failing to notify police of his change of address to his girlfriend's home on the Wirral where a nine-year-old child visited for Christmas dinner, possessing two undeclared internet-capable mobile phones (one given to his girlfriend), and lying to his partner about the reason for his prior imprisonment (claiming assault on a police officer). He had been released from prison in November 2019 and was living at an unregistered address since June 2021. No new impropriety found.
Pleaded guilty to four counts of breaching the SHPO, having previously admitted failing to comply with the requirements of the Sex Offenders Register. Judge David Aubrey, QC, described the breaches as flagrant. Girlfriend remains supportive.
Joel Mtebe
Fraud by false representation *

Joel Mtebe, of Darwen Fold Close, Buckshaw Village, made 15 fraudulent home insurance claims to RSA Insurance using fake identities such as Thomas Bass and James Thurnburrow, receiving payouts of almost £12,000. He began the fraud less than two years after receiving a suspended sentence in 2017 for similar offences. He used policies under false names including Steve Mason, Matthew Hamilton, Nathan Macintyre, and Jack Grover. He was arrested in March 2022 after RSA linked the policies to him, and his laptop contained evidence. He admitted the fake claims in interview, claiming he gave 70% of the cash to another man, but no withdrawals were found. He pleaded guilty at Preston Magistrates Court and was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court.
Pleaded guilty to eight counts of fraud by false representation. Had previously received a suspended sentence in 2017 for 15 fraudulent claims against the same insurer.
John Merritt

John Merritt, aged 14 or 15 in the 1970s and going by Walter Merritt at the time, raped Boy A (aged nine or 10) up to five times in Belle Vale, a bathroom, and a field in Netherley, after offering chocolate and inviting him into his house. He also raped Boy B (aged eight or nine) twice in the bathroom after his mother invited the boy for tea and cake. The offences came to light after Boy A reported in 2016, leading to Boy B being traced in 2018.
Convicted after trial of three counts of a sexual offence which would now be classed as rape. Prior convictions for wounding, possessing a weapon, and racially aggravated public order offence. Must sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. Will serve at least six years before release on licence.
