After leaving his girlfriend’s home, Biji armed himself with a knife and put on a face covering before stabbing the 16-year-old victim twice in an alley close to his girlfriend’s house. The victim managed to get away but suffered life-threatening injuries. Surgeons were able to save the boy’s life after carrying out emergency surgery. Biji was arrested a couple of hours later.
Pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, but CPS refused and prosecuted for attempted murder. Found guilty after trial. Judge determined he was dangerous and posed a real risk to the public.

On the evening of September 6, 2024, Carl Dawe, 52, of Gloucester Road North, argued with his affair partner Jacqueline Spencer at her home on Clifton Road East in Tuebrook over a fridge freezer. After she went to neighbour Alison Hunt's house, Dawe smashed the windows of Hunt's caravan in jealousy. Just after 3.30am on September 7, he returned, set the caravan on fire using a cigarette lighter on the curtains, destroying it and an attached trailer. A gas canister exploded, spreading the fire to Spencer's home where her 14-year-old son and pets were inside. Spencer re-entered the burning house to save them, suffering first and second degree burns to her face, neck, and hand, fearing permanent scarring. The fire also damaged two neighbouring properties and a car. Dawe was arrested later that morning in Newsham Park while intoxicated.
Admitted arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered and four counts of criminal damage. Judge noted he was in a bad temper and under the influence of alcohol, with wide-ranging consequences including injury to victim. Remorseful, previous convictions but none since 2014.

Dean Dempster, a 35-year-old response officer for Greater Manchester Police based in Oldham, sexually assaulted a vulnerable young girl by touching her while on duty responding to a disturbance in Oldham on 29 December 2023. He was arrested the following day after a formal complaint. Prior to arrest, he deleted material from his personal phone. Searches of his home and devices revealed 104 category A indecent images of children (including 30 pseudo images with his face superimposed), 440 category B images (including 129 pseudo), and 2,472 category C images (including 39 pseudo). He had been downloading such images from 15 December 2021 to 29 December 2023 and searching for content involving children's feet.
Pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault on a child under 13, six counts of making indecent images of children and two counts of misconduct in public office. Sacked by GMP following misconduct hearing in May 2024. Sexual Harm Prevention Order imposed. Must sign the sexual offenders' register for life.

Michael Riccio, operating under the handle 'LeadFern' on EncroChat, ran a business buying and selling drugs and guns, amassing £2.5m in old £20 notes. He dealt in at least 30kg of cocaine and 20kg of heroin in early 2020, with operations extending to Dubai, Australia, Europe, and involving people at Liverpool's docks and three companies in Belgium. He had a reputation for sourcing and selling weapons, including attempting to acquire a shotgun to 'give someone a leggy', and sought to buy back guns against rivals. Andrew Talbot

Andrew Talbot, a former GMP detective, stole just under 4kg of cocaine from the GMP property store between February 2018 and January 2020 and supplied it on the streets of Manchester. He abused his position by conducting unauthorised searches of GMP’s confidential computer systems for known or suspected drug dealers to aid sales and provided confidential police information to a friend under investigation for assault. He conspired with convicted drug dealer Keith Bretherton to help recover a drug debt worth more than £20,000. On February 13, 2020, CCTV captured him dropping a bag of cocaine at a primary school after dropping off his daughter. The bag was reported, leading to an investigation and his arrest at work three days later. Searches revealed more cocaine on him, drug-related notes in his car, and paraphernalia at his home.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of cocaine, possession of ammunition without a firearm certificate, theft of cocaine, conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office, a further count of misconduct in public office, and unauthorised access to computer material. On September 24, 2023, Ali Akturan, 19, of Greenbank Drive in Sefton Park, entered the basement women's toilets at the Grade II-listed Mansion House in Calderstones Park, Liverpool, where cleaner Pauline Whalley was working. He grabbed her arms, threw her to the floor, smashed her head into the tiles, and sexually assaulted her by grabbing her vagina over her clothing. The victim screamed, alerting another woman, and Akturan fled but was caught and arrested in the park.
Pleaded guilty. Recorder Tim Harrington considered the defendant's age (19), lack of prior convictions, possible mild learning disability and features of autistic spectrum disorder. Also given a restraining order banning entry to Calderstones Park or contact with victim.
Curtis Critchley

The manual included graphic stories of sexual activities involving children and details on grooming children via Snapchat and TikTok. This follows prior offenses where he stole children's clothing from a washing line in Doncaster, possessed indecent images, and engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl he met on Snapchat while lying about his age; she was found with him in a Holiday Inn in Rotherham.
Guilty plea to possession of a paedophile manual. Previous convictions include three years and four months in a young offender institution in May 2020 for causing a child to engage in sexual activity, theft of clothing, handling stolen goods, and possessing indecent images of children. Curtis Carney

Curtis Carney, 36, of Coton Way, Kirkby, was involved in an operation using drones to smuggle drugs and mobile phones into multiple prisons including HMP Liverpool, Altcourse, Hindley, Wymott, Garth, and Deerbolt. The plot was uncovered after a 10-month investigation by the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit. Carney was first arrested in June 2023 on the M6 in Lancashire when a package of drugs and mobile phones wrapped in grass was thrown from his car, with a drone found in the boot. He was arrested again in October 2024 near HMP Liverpool, where two more drones and four packages containing drugs and mobile phones were discovered. Evidence linked him to over 50 drone flights into six prisons. Seized drugs had a street value of £31,000 to £38,000 and prison value of £94,000 to £295,000.

The victim suffered serious injuries requiring multiple surgeries and remains on a long road to recovery. Following the incident, Foster failed to stop and made efforts to conceal his involvement by attempting to repair the damaged vehicle. The car was later found at an industrial estate outside a vehicle body shop, with its registration plates removed.

Jane Hill

Jane Hill, a 52-year-old carer from Norwich Drive, Upton on Merseyside, stole £40 from 90-year-old Myra Thompson's handbag during a care visit on 12 April 2024. Mrs Thompson, who suffered from Parkinson's disease and short-term memory loss, lived alone in Spital. The theft was captured on hidden CCTV footage installed by neighbours. After being suspended, Hill returned to Mrs Thompson's home on 22 April 2024, let herself in using a key safe, and murdered her by hitting her on the head with a metal flask and smothering her with a pillow when Mrs Thompson shouted. Hill had attempted to visit on 18 April but backed out. She left without calling for help. Doorbell footage and phone data confirmed her presence.

Alec Keiran, 52, from Bamber Bridge, was driving his HGV into a petrol station on Scotland Road in Liverpool around 8.05am on 10 August 2023. He had a delivery for the Spar shop on the site and was manoeuvring onto the forecourt from Wilbraham Street, which is a narrow, single lane carriageway. The tight manoeuvre was made more difficult as a car was parked opposite the forecourt entrance. As Mr Keiran began the turn he saw what he thought was a bin bag and a folded duvet on the pavement. To complete the turn and avoid the car, the rear wheels of the lorry cut across the pavement. Tragically, the “bin bag” was in fact Nicole Cummings, asleep in a sleeping bag. The back wheel went straight over her, causing fatal injuries.
Pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving. The Judge accepted Mr Keiran was extremely and genuinely remorseful but said an immediate prison term was the only appropriate sentence.
Peter Stanley

Peter Stanley posted videos depicting the torture of baby long-tailed macaque monkeys on a private Facebook site linked to intentional animal harm. The videos, which included sexual torture, were spotted by an animal protection group member who reported them to police. Police traced him via his Facebook ID, searched his home, and seized his mobile phone containing 75 such videos, one matching the posted clip. Stanley claimed he joined the group to assess the content's severity and posted three videos to gain entry, but stopped in October 2023 after viewing around 70 videos.

Graham Goodchild

Graham Goodchild, an 82-year-old former children’s nurse from Southampton, Hampshire, sexually abused four boys between 1966 and 1976 while employed at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Hospital. He was convicted of four counts of buggery, one count of attempted buggery, and 11 counts of indecent assault. Goodchild abused three boys from the same family after one was admitted to the hospital in the 1960s; he befriended the family under the pretence of aftercare and abused the boys, all under 10, at his home, on trips, and in his car. He also abused another boy who was a patient at the hospital, as well as at his flat and on a trip. The abuse was reported after one victim saw an online article about Goodchild. He denied the allegations during questioning in July 2020 and March 2021 but was found guilty at trial.
Pleaded not guilty but was convicted following a trial. Must be notified on the Sexual Offenders Register for life.

On 19 November 2023, around 2am outside a Warrington town centre nightclub, Joshua Saxton, 21, of Marron Avenue in Orford, Warrington, repeatedly punched a 40-year-old victim who was intervening as a peacemaker during an argument involving his godson. Elias Morgan, 35, of Highgate Street, shot former prison officer Lenny Scott, 33, of Prescot, six times outside a gym on Peel Road, Skelmersdale, at around 7.35pm on February 8, 2024. The murder was an act of retaliation nearly four years after Scott exposed an illicit relationship between Morgan, who was an inmate at HMP Altcourse, and a female prison officer. Scott had refused a £1,500 bribe to not report a phone Morgan illegally held, which contained evidence of the affair. Morgan later warned Scott, 'I'll bide my time, but I promise I will get you', and made a gun gesture.
Found guilty of murder. Did not receive a whole life order due to a legal loophole as the victim was a former prison officer at the time of the murder.

He submitted one application using his mother’s name and business, Combined Developments Liverpool Ltd, without her knowledge, securing £50,000 which he used for personal purposes. For the second, he used his company Gibson Bowers Ltd to apply for £45,412, exaggerating turnover despite no trading activity from 2019-2021, and transferred most funds to his personal account for lifestyle expenses, third-party payments, and cash withdrawals.
Pleaded guilty to two fraud related counts. 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days. Prior investigation revealed company not trading 2019-2021.

John Stuart, the prime mover in the scam, stole thousands of pounds from three men trying to buy tickets for the Liverpool FC Champions League Final in May 2022. One victim paid £8,500 for two category one tickets, and two others paid £2,500 each for two tickets. Contact was via Stuart's mobile phone, but money was paid into O’Neill’s bank account, which was then transferred to Stuart’s relatives and friends. Victims realized it was a fraud after a few days as no tickets were provided. Stuart admitted the scam during police interview on 20 October 2022, stating 'I took the money off them, I didn’t provide the tickets, It was my f**k up,' though claiming circumstances beyond his control. He pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court on 26 June 2024.

He struck Police Officer Phil Jones, causing serious injuries including an open fracture of the right elbow, a dislocated left shoulder, injuries to the left knee and lower left leg, and psychological trauma. Ainscough's actions led to the officer's hospitalisation and ongoing recovery challenges.
