In November 2023, Dorset Police officer James McClements met a domestic abuse victim during an investigation. He provided her with his personal telephone number, made inappropriate contact and pursued an intimate sexual relationship. On one occasion he discouraged her from reporting contact with the domestic abuse perpetrator to protect himself. The matter was reported to Dorset Police in November 2024. McClements was arrested, interviewed under caution and later resigned from the force in April 2025. He pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office at Bristol Crown Court on 10 April 2026.

On 9 June 2024, Fiona Hodge was driving a red Citroen on Brunel Way with two friends after a day walking in the Mendip Hills. Crossman, a 53-year-old former RAF servicewoman and fire service worker, was walking to a Take That concert at Ashton Gate Stadium with friends. She died from her injuries. Hodge claimed no recollection of the moments before the crash and was later diagnosed with epilepsy.

Police arrested him at his home address where they also found two sex workers in possession of a phone containing evidence linking him to the brothel.

Michael Ronner was driving a scaffolding lorry with two passengers along the A4174 in Mangotsfield on 5 December 2023 at around 5.30pm. The lorry collided with the central reservation and overturned. Passenger Tyler Carley, aged 20, suffered a fatal head injury and multiple broken limbs and died at the scene. Ronner was arrested at the scene and later charged. An investigation found that the collision resulted from his lack of concentration and failure to ensure passenger safety. He pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.

David Clarke, an 82-year-old former religious education teacher at Newlands Preparatory School in Seaford, sexually abused 14 boys between 1978 and 1989. Many of the offences took place in a darkroom he used for the photography club he ran. The victims were pupils at Newlands Preparatory School and the senior school known as The Manor. Clarke was arrested and charged with 39 counts of indecent assault, five counts of indecent assault of a child, one count of buggery of a boy under 16, and one count of making an indecent photograph of a child. A month-long trial at Brighton Crown Court ended in guilty verdicts on all but one count of attempted buggery.

Morris attacked her by striking her, biting her finger, gouging at her eyes, strangling her, punching her, and pulling her hair. He then smashed nine windows in the house and damaged two cars. In February, prior to this, he had assaulted the victim and smashed household items after she asked him to leave. The victim sustained facial swelling, black eyes, bite wounds, and ongoing knee pain, and received hospital treatment.

An investigation led by specialist detectives began in February 2024 after police received a report that he had committed a sexual act in front of a young child. Mitchell Lee Rogers, a 36-year-old man of no fixed abode, grabbed a woman - a stranger to him - as she was walking to work in Henbury, between 6.30am and 7am on Friday 1 August 2025. He pressed a sharp object against her neck and dragged her to a nearby flat, threatening to rape her. She managed to escape. He was arrested later that morning. The victim, an adult woman he believed to be a schoolgirl, suffered cuts, bruising, a neck injury, and significant long-term psychological harm. Rogers was under the influence of drugs.
Admitted charges of kidnap and committing a criminal offence with intent to commit a sexual offence. His Honour Judge Martin Picton described the crimes as 'utterly horrific', 'chilling', and 'sadistic'. Found to be a dangerous offender.

He failed to complete the agreed work, failed to supply materials already paid for, and grossly overcharged for the work undertaken. Instead of using the funds for suppliers and labour costs, he used a large proportion to fund his gambling addiction, with total gambling losses exceeding £60,000. Adams repeatedly lied to obtain further payments, including falsely claiming his bank account was frozen and insisting on cash for materials. He claimed to have reached his daily cash-withdrawal limit despite making no withdrawals. In one instance, he told the homeowner the boiler had failed and charged for a replacement, placing a Bosch boiler sticker on the existing unit to make it appear new, though no new boiler was fitted. The workmanship was described as 'quite appalling' by a specialist building surveyor, carried out by unskilled and incompetent individuals, rendering the annex structurally unsound and leading to its demolition. The homeowner was left with an uninhabitable property and losses exceeding £166,000.

Jamie Nicholls crashed his van into the back of Michael Stone's stationary blue Peugeot at high speed on the M32 Junction 1 exit slip road at Hambrook shortly before 10am on August 22, 2024, causing a five-car collision. He looked down for a cigarette for a second or two, failing to brake in time while travelling at 70mph. The impact led to further collisions, resulting in the death of 68-year-old Michael Stone at the scene and serious injuries to his passenger colleague, including seven broken ribs and a head injury. Nicholls and another driver also required hospital treatment.
Pleaded guilty to one count each of causing death by careless driving and causing serious injury by careless driving.

Ellie May Maddocks, partner of Dominic Smith and five months pregnant at the time, allowed two killers, Kodi Wescott and a younger teen, to stay at their flat in Westbury-on-Trym on the night after the murders of Max Dixon and Mason Rist in Knowle West in January 2024, then drove the pair to Weston-super-Mare as the police net closed in.

Charlie Harris, 23, from Crawley, controlled a drugs line known as the 'Charlie' line, which came to police attention through mobile phone intelligence in May 2025. Ross Sandwell held the associated mobile phone. Warrants were executed on 14 May 2025 at addresses in Suez Way, Brighton, and Johnson Walk, Crawley. Officers seized mobile phones, SIM cards, cannabis, and £245 in cash from the Crawley address, where Harris was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. He was also recalled to prison for breaching licence conditions from a previous drug supply sentence imposed in May 2024. Harris was charged with being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine, possession of a class B drug (cannabis), and being concerned in the offer to supply heroin. He changed his plea to guilty before trial and was sentenced at Brighton Crown Court.
Pleaded guilty after initially pleading not guilty. Had a previous drug supply conviction from May 2024 and was recalled to prison during this investigation.
Ross Sandwell

Ross Sandwell, 42, from Saltdean, held the mobile phone for the 'Charlie' drugs line, which was controlled by Charlie Harris. The line came to police attention in May 2025. On 14 May 2025, officers executed a warrant at his address in Suez Way, Brighton, seizing two mobile phones and a quantity of cannabis. Sandwell was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and possession of a class B drug. He was later charged with being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine, possession of a class B drug, and being concerned in the offer to supply heroin. He changed his plea to guilty before trial and was sentenced at Brighton Crown Court.

Najib Abdi
Possession with intent to supply a class B drug (cannabis) *

Najib Abdi was arrested on February 15, 2025, in Castle Park, Bristol, for possessing a large amount of cannabis. He was found with the drug during an incident in the park.
Pleaded guilty to the offences at an earlier hearing. Also received a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from entering Castle Park.

Erdogan Erdogan was convicted of the manslaughter of his former flatmate, 27-year-old Fatih Zengi. The victim was discovered severely injured just after 5am on July 2 on Manchester Road, Swindon, by a passing cyclist who raised the alarm. Despite emergency services attending, Fatih died from his injuries.
Found guilty after a two-week trial. Police commended the Turkish community in Swindon for their assistance in securing the verdict.
Heidi Bessant

Heidi Bessant, 38, of Wyebank Rise, Chepstow, worked as operational support at HMP Leyhill in Gloucestershire. She began an illicit six-month relationship with a convicted drug dealer and blackmailer inmate. Bessant picked up the inmate from the prison during his day release, took him to restaurants and hotels, handled his banking affairs, and exchanged phone calls and text messages using a contraband mobile phone. The affair was uncovered by SWROCU detectives investigating suspicions surrounding her conduct.
Pleaded guilty to misconduct in a public office. Engaged in a six-month affair with a prisoner serving time for conspiracy to supply class A drugs and blackmail. Took the inmate to restaurants and hotels during day release and handled his banking affairs. Serious breach of trust noted by investigator PC Mark Paterson.
Gary Browne

More than 4kg of class A and class B drugs, including 1.6kg of cocaine, 877 grams of heroin, and 1.6kg of ketamine, along with £20,000 in cash, were seized during warrants at addresses linked to Browne in Peasedown St John and Paulton in October 2025.

On December 26, 2023, Reuben Fay, along with Tayshon Graham, Ajay Edwards, and Cain Henderson, followed Mitchell Burke and his friends after they left a restaurant on Gloucester Road in Bristol. When Mitchell tripped and fell on Bishop Road, the group stabbed him seven times, causing injuries to his face, neck, shoulder, arm, chest, buttock, and a brain injury. The attack was life-threatening, but Mitchell survived due to aid from bystanders and medical professionals.
Found guilty of attempted murder. Youth and adverse personal circumstances considered in mitigation. Dangerous offender.
