In 1998, Joanne Sharkey secretly gave birth to a full-term newborn baby at her home in Croxteth, Liverpool. Due to a depressive illness that substantially impaired her judgement and self-control, she covered the baby's nose and mouth to quieten him, leading to his death. She then placed the body in bin bags and discarded it in a wooded area off Camp Road in Warrington, where it was discovered on March 14, 1998, by a dog walker. The case remained unsolved for years until a DNA breakthrough in 2022 identified her as the mother.
Pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility and concealment of birth. Judge noted her lengthy postnatal depression, that the offence was not planned or premeditated, and that compassion was warranted, with no useful purpose in immediate imprisonment.

The abuse escalated to indecent assaults, instructing her to perform sex acts, showing her pornography and suggesting they replicate it, and raping her on multiple occasions. The victim suffered from depression, nightmares, and attempted overdose as a result, stating that Smith ruined her life.
Found guilty by a jury of 20 child sexual offences. He maintained his innocence and had no previous convictions. Judge Robert Trevor-Jones noted that he had groomed the victim and developed a pattern of sexual abuse. He was in advanced stages of prostate cancer, which made serving the sentence difficult.

Initially denied memory due to epilepsy but pleaded guilty on 19 December 2023.

He retrieved an overweight Samsonite suitcase from baggage reclaim containing 22 blocks of cocaine weighing 25.55kg (80% purity), valued at £432,000 wholesale and £1.9 million street value, packaged with Champions League, Tesla, and F1 branding. Traces of cocaine were found on his passport. He claimed the bag belonged to a friend and contained holiday gifts, denying knowledge of the contents. He was apprehended by officers at the airport.

Connor Chapman, 23, carried out a planned revenge attack on Christmas Eve 2021 outside the Lighthouse pub in Wallasey Village, Wirral, as part of a gang feud between the Woodchurch and Beechwood estates. He lay in wait for three hours in a stolen Mercedes with cloned plates, wearing dark clothes, before firing 12 bullets from a Skorpion submachine gun at a group of people, fatally shooting innocent beautician Elle Edwards twice in the back of her head while she was outside for a cigarette. Five others, including targets Jake Duffy and Kieran Salkeld, were seriously injured. He fled to co-defendant Thomas Waring's home to dispose of the gun, later burned the Mercedes in Frodsham, Cheshire, and attempted to evade capture by recruiting friends for ferry tickets to Spain and hiding. DNA on a bullet casing linked him to the crime, leading to his arrest in mid-Wales.
Described as a highly dangerous man by Mr Justice Goose. Convicted of murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of a Skorpion sub-machine gun with intent to endanger life, and ammunition with intent to endanger life. He organised, bought, and sold drugs on a commercial scale, directing others. The account was shared with associates including Rhys Nze on limited occasions. He returned to Merseyside, found employment, but was arrested following the EncroChat hack in early 2020. He went on trial in January 2024 and was cleared of firearms trafficking.

On June 28, 2023, Kevin Lawton broke into a home on Mimosa Road in Wavertree at around 3.30am, but nothing was stolen. Later the same day, at around 6.45am, a Volkswagen Golf was stolen overnight from a home on Tulip Road. Lawton was identified on CCTV footage and arrested.
Jailed for burglary and attempted burglary. Breached licensing conditions after release and is now wanted on recall to prison.

Admitted three charges of blackmail and one of theft. Judge described the actions as 'wicked and insidious' and noted a history of 16 previous convictions for violent and acquisitive crimes, including fraud, theft, and robbery.

On June 11, 2023, Constantin Lupo caused £8,734 worth of damage to five slot machines at Buzz Bingo in Warrington by using a bar stool. When a man tried to intervene and prevent further damage, Lupo assaulted him with a lock knife, resulting in multiple injuries including cuts to the back of the head, arms, and legs. Lupo was restrained by staff and members of the public until Cheshire Police arrived and arrested him.
Convicted following a four-day trial. Maintained innocence but found guilty of criminal damage, inflicting grievous bodily harm, and possession of a knife in public. DC Stephan Wolstenholme of Cheshire Police commented that the victim was violently attacked during an attempt to stop Lupo's rampage.

On August 22, 2022, Thomas Cashman, a high-level cannabis dealer, chased Joseph Nee up Kingsheath Avenue in Dovecot, Liverpool, after lying in wait. He fired three shots, hitting Nee in the midriff. Nee ran into Olivia Pratt-Korbel's home for safety. Cashman pursued and fired a bullet through the front door, wounding Olivia's mother Cheryl in the hand and fatally shooting nine-year-old Olivia in the chest as she stood behind her mother. Cashman fled the scene. The incident was linked to gang-related enmities, with prior attempts on Nee's life using the same pistol.
Found guilty of murder, attempted murder, wounding with intent, and two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
