On the evening of September 6, 2024, Carl Dawe, 52, of Gloucester Road North, argued with his affair partner Jacqueline Spencer at her home on Clifton Road East in Tuebrook over a fridge freezer. After she went to neighbour Alison Hunt's house, Dawe smashed the windows of Hunt's caravan in jealousy. Just after 3.30am on September 7, he returned, set the caravan on fire using a cigarette lighter on the curtains, destroying it and an attached trailer. A gas canister exploded, spreading the fire to Spencer's home where her 14-year-old son and pets were inside. Spencer re-entered the burning house to save them, suffering first and second degree burns to her face, neck, and hand, fearing permanent scarring. The fire also damaged two neighbouring properties and a car. Dawe was arrested later that morning in Newsham Park while intoxicated.
Admitted arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered and four counts of criminal damage. Judge noted he was in a bad temper and under the influence of alcohol, with wide-ranging consequences including injury to victim. Remorseful, previous convictions but none since 2014.

He conspired with convicted drug dealer Keith Bretherton to help recover a drug debt worth more than £20,000. On February 13, 2020, CCTV captured him dropping a bag of cocaine at a primary school after dropping off his daughter. The bag was reported, leading to an investigation and his arrest at work three days later. Searches revealed more cocaine on him, drug-related notes in his car, and paraphernalia at his home.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of cocaine, possession of ammunition without a firearm certificate, theft of cocaine, conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office, a further count of misconduct in public office, and unauthorised access to computer material. Carney was first arrested in June 2023 on the M6 in Lancashire when a package of drugs and mobile phones wrapped in grass was thrown from his car, with a drone found in the boot. He was arrested again in October 2024 near HMP Liverpool, where two more drones and four packages containing drugs and mobile phones were discovered. Evidence linked him to over 50 drone flights into six prisons. Seized drugs had a street value of £31,000 to £38,000 and prison value of £94,000 to £295,000.

Graham Goodchild, an 82-year-old former children’s nurse from Southampton, Hampshire, sexually abused four boys between 1966 and 1976 while employed at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Hospital. He was convicted of four counts of buggery, one count of attempted buggery, and 11 counts of indecent assault. Goodchild abused three boys from the same family after one was admitted to the hospital in the 1960s; he befriended the family under the pretence of aftercare and abused the boys, all under 10, at his home, on trips, and in his car. He also abused another boy who was a patient at the hospital, as well as at his flat and on a trip. The abuse was reported after one victim saw an online article about Goodchild. He denied the allegations during questioning in July 2020 and March 2021 but was found guilty at trial.
Pleaded not guilty but was convicted following a trial. Must be notified on the Sexual Offenders Register for life.

The couple had checked into the hotel around 8pm, and the baby showed no injuries at that time. Tilici called the mother on Facetime, prompting her to rush back and find the child with significant injuries. She took the baby to reception, where staff called an ambulance. Paramedics deemed the injuries non-accidental, and police were notified. Tilici denied causing the harm, claiming the baby rolled off the bed. The child was taken to Alder Hey Hospital, where medics confirmed the injuries were not accidental.
Found guilty after trial. No remorse shown. Senior Crown Prosecutor described him as a violent, abusive bully.

On August 30, 2023, at around 9.30pm on Birchwood Way, Warrington, Bridie Trotter, then 36, who was over the drink driving limit and high on cocaine, drove her two young sons (aged five and four) and swerved onto the other side of the road, causing a head-on collision with a car carrying 36-weeks pregnant Ellie Wright, her partner, and two children (aged eight and six). The crash resulted in serious injuries to all seven people involved, including Trotter's five-year-old son who was placed in an induced coma for four days with fractures to his collarbone and pelvis, a scalp wound, broken nose, and mouth injury requiring surgery. Ellie Wright suffered bruising to her baby bump, was hospitalized for four days, and feared for her baby's life; her children had severe seatbelt burns and bruising. Trotter's blood alcohol was 137mg (over 80mg limit) and cocaine metabolite four times the legal limit six hours post-accident. She had been struggling with mental health, domestic violence, drinking, and drugs prior to the incident.
Pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drug driving and drink driving. Judge Stuart Driver KC noted her previous good character, mental health struggles, history of domestic violence, and efforts to rehabilitate from addiction. She believes the sentence is too long and is appealing.

Leanne Marie Richardson and her partner were stopped at Manchester Airport upon re-entering the UK after a holiday in Jamaica. A search of their suitcases uncovered almost 22kg of high-purity cocaine hidden in the lining, with a street value of approximately £594,000. Her partner arranged the return and instructed her to leave suitcases lightly filled and marked with a ribbon, which she did, and she took pictures of the suitcases to facilitate placement of the drugs.
Found guilty by jury of participating in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on importing cocaine. Played a limited role but was a willing participant. Partner accepted bulk of responsibility. Judge noted she tied ribbons to luggage and forwarded pictures for identification. Later struck off by General Pharmaceutical Council for limited insight and denial of misconduct.

James Campbell, 50, owned a 21-month-old XL Bully dog named Zeus, which he had since April 2024 but failed to exempt as a banned breed. On or around August 7 and 8, 2023, he abused the dog in the rear yard of his home in Harrowby Road, Birkenhead, by repeatedly hitting her with a baseball bat, hurling bricks at her abdominal area, throwing pans of water, grabbing her by the neck, headbutting her, and punching her. He did not seek veterinary care for the dog's injuries, including significant swelling on her head from a strong hit. The dog exhibited signs of distress and attempts to escape. Zeus was removed by police on August 8, 2023, signed over by Campbell, and euthanised due to legislation on banned breeds.
Admitted one Animal Welfare Act offence. Claimed self-defence due to alleged dog bite, but evidence from videos and witnesses showed repeated abuse. Ordered to complete ten Rehabilitation Activity Requirement Days.

Raymond Kinnear was involved in conspiring to supply cocaine, with 45 kilograms of the drug found concealed in Sports Direct bags in a grey Audi A4 registered to him at a storage unit in Liverpool. He was seen with his son on CCTV at a Liverpool Travelodge hotel and had keys to the vehicle. Police searches of his home revealed more than £25,000 in cash and two Rolex watches. The incident was linked to activities from at least March 2024.

On December 7, 2024, Jack Tyler, while under the influence of cocaine and cannabis, engaged in a violent altercation at his family home on Cobham Road, Moreton. He punched his mother, Patricia Tyler, in the face, causing blinding pain, black eyes, and frequent vomiting. He then fought with his father, Joseph Tyler, grabbed a knife from his father's pocket, and stabbed him 12 times in the flank, thigh, left chest, armpit, and other areas, leading to a fractured rib, bleeding to the eye, and severe injuries requiring emergency surgery and critical care at St Mary's Hospital in Warrington. Tyler fled the scene but was arrested 12 hours later, claiming self-defence, though the judge determined his actions exceeded this. The incident stemmed from a deteriorating relationship and prior violence, leaving both victims with lasting physical and psychological effects, including mobility issues, constant pain, and fear for safety.
Pleaded guilty to Section 18 Assault (Grievous Bodily Harm) and causing Actual Bodily Harm. Has 23 previous convictions for various offences. Judge Garrett Byrne noted the acts were truly shocking, acknowledged childhood trauma and mental health challenges, but stated the violence went beyond proportionate self-defence.
Shane Philbrook

In May 2023, Shane Philbrook befriended a 13-year-old girl on Snapchat and, during their first in-person meeting two days later, raped and sexually assaulted her. Nine months later, in February 2024, he sexually assaulted another victim, who was 16 years old, at a youth club.
Found guilty after a trial. DC Shanaz Kone commented on his sexual interest in underage girls and welcomed the custodial sentence. DC Louise Warburton praised the victims for their strength and hoped they could move forward.
Gavin Butters

Gavin Butters, 27, of no fixed address but from Yorkshire, committed courier fraud by having an accomplice pretend to be a police officer over the phone to elderly victims, including a man from St Helens. He visited them to collect bank cards under false pretences and stole nearly £10,000 in jewellery from one couple.
Pleaded guilty to nine counts of fraud. A restraining order banning contact with some victims for 10 years was imposed.
Jennifer Coleman

On May 31, 2024, Jennifer Coleman's two dogs, Wilbur and Mistletoe, both Italian Spinones, attacked John Hudson, 71, and his son's dog on Leasowe Beach. The dogs jumped at Mr. Hudson, knocking him onto rocks and causing a cut to his eyebrow and injuries to two fingers. He shouted for Coleman to control the dogs, but she walked away, swearing. The incident occurred in a popular area frequented by families and other dog walkers.
Found guilty of two offences of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control. A contingent destruction order was imposed, requiring restrictions such as walking the dogs separately, using head collars, obtaining insurance, and attending training sessions.
