Flicker punched Edwards on the floor at least five times, inflicting a broken jaw and fractured eye socket. Neighbours witnessed the violence; Edwards was found in a pool of blood in the road but did not complain.
Admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm. Five previous convictions for eight offences, none violent. Judge acknowledged significant provocation as victim was aggressor at defendant's mother's home. John Hawker, 25, from St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court for a series of sexual offences against an underage teenage girl. The abuse began when the victim was a young child, with Hawker inappropriately touching her despite her repeated refusals and pleas to stop. He manipulated her by offering bribes such as chocolate and presents to build her confidence and trust, eventually escalating to repeated rapes. The court heard that one particularly traumatic incident occurred while the girl was sleeping; she awoke in pain and discomfort to find Hawker raping her. She struggled to push him away, but he persisted. Judge Jeremy Jenkins noted that this assault took the victim's virginity. The grooming and abuse continued for years, though it became less frequent after Hawker learned the girl had reported sexual abuse by another man to the police. Following his arrest, police discovered images of child abuse on a device belonging to Hawker. He denied seven counts of rape, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, but was convicted by a jury after a trial. Kian Harding, a 19-year-old from Pontllanfraith, Wales, was investigated after Gwent Police received intelligence that indecent images had been downloaded at his home on Millbrook Road. On 15 January 2024, officers executed a search warrant and found indecent images on his phone. Forensic analysis revealed seven Category A images (including one still and six videos depicting rape of a five-year-old girl and oral rape of a 12-year-old), eleven Category B, and eight Category C images. Victims were aged 5 to 12. Harding had used Telegram to discuss child abuse images, requested and received Category C images, and his search history showed sexual interest in children between 1 and 15 January 2024. He was arrested and pleaded guilty.

Investigation also uncovered online conversations in which Little boasted about his collection and discussed sexually abusing children with other paedophiles. Kelly Thomas and her partner, Richard Mountstephens, groomed a young girl and coerced her into sexual acts with several men over a period of weeks. They captured indecent images of the abuse and posted them on a website advertising sexual services, seeking financial gain. The victim confided in her family, prompting an investigation by South Wales Police. Thomas and Mountstephens were arrested in April 2020. Both denied the offences but were convicted at Cardiff Crown Court of controlling a child in relation to sexual exploitation. Kenneth Arthur Jenkins, 63, from Cwmfelinfach, Caerphilly, was sentenced to six months in prison after police discovered indecent images of children on his computer. On 29 July 2015, Gwent Police executed a search warrant at his King Street home and found 57 indecent images, including 10 in the most severe Category A, depicting children as young as three in sexual activity with adult males. He admitted possession of indecent photographs of children. His appeal against the sentence was rejected by the Court of Appeal in London on 14 January 2016.
Pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. The judge described the images as 'sickening'. His appeal against the custodial term was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 14 January 2016, the judges stating the sentence was not manifestly excessive.
Katrina Jones

Katrina Jones, 53, befriended the vulnerable founder of K9 Crusaders dog charity online in 2010 and lied about her qualifications to become its treasurer. Using the alias 'Kate David', she also got her partner Mark Wren installed as a trustee. She syphoned at least £88,000 from the charity and the founder personally, including money from the sale of the founder's house meant for rescued dogs. The thefts across Wales, Cornwall, and Cumbria were discovered in spring/summer 2014 when debt collectors demanded payment of unpaid bills, endangering the dogs' welfare. She used the stolen funds for her own gambling and lifestyle.
Pleaded guilty to 30 charges of theft. Judge Wynne Morgan described her as 'cold-blooded, evil and malevolent', noting she used the money to finance her gambling and lifestyle.
Joshua Watkins

He admitted being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and possession of criminal property.

Police stopped him in a black Audi and seized his phone, which contained videos and messages relating to drug dealing. He initially denied being a drug dealer but later confessed. Coker has 26 previous convictions for 50 offences.

Lewis James Taylor
Sexual assault on a child under 13 *

Lewis James Taylor, a 31-year-old man from Ely in Cardiff, sexually abused a vulnerable child under the age of 13 in April 2021. He intentionally touched the child in a sexual manner, photographed the abuse, and distributed the indecent images via the Kik messaging service to another individual with paedophilic interests. Messages recovered showed Taylor discussing his intentions to abuse the child and indicating plans for further offending. The investigation began when London police uncovered the illicit content being sent to a user in their jurisdiction, which led to South Wales Police searching Taylor’s home. He initially denied any wrongdoing but officers discovered 12 images involving bestiality and a video recording the abuse itself. In court, the child’s mother described severe impacts on her trust, sleep and mental health, including nightmares, anxiety and depression. Taylor pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a child under 13, making and distributing indecent images of a child, and possessing extreme pornographic images.
Pleaded guilty. Judge expressed doubts about his remorse, stating he demonstrated a strong sexual interest in very young children and posed a huge risk. Extended licence and sexual harm prevention order imposed.
Levi Weekes
Assaulting an emergency worker *

On the morning of April 2, 2024, at HMP Parc in Bridgend, serving prisoner Levi Weekes, 25, was unhappy about being placed in a cell with an inmate using the drug spice after a sniffer dog indicated suspicious activity in his cell. When attempts were made to move him to another cell, he kicked prison officer Steven Elford in the right leg above the knee. Weekes then tried to run past the officer, who grabbed him in a bear hug. During this, Mr Elford was bent backwards at the waist and heard a snapping and cracking feeling, suffering a fracture to his vertebrae just below the chest. The victim screamed in indescribable pain. Weekes was restrained by other officers. Mr Elford was taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital and left unable to work for a long period.
Pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker. He had 21 previous convictions including racially/religiously aggravated assault, battery, and assaulting emergency workers. Mitigation: grievances about prison conditions, grew up in the care system, and had been subjected to serious assaults in prison.
Leighton Lewis

He evaded police for two months before handing himself in and was arrested in January 2026 in possession of a Nokia 105 handset and Samsung Galaxy headset which he attempted to dismantle.

Kyle Fisher, 19, from Tonyrefail, used social media and messaging platforms to target children aged between 10 and 15. He used threats and manipulation to coerce victims into sharing indecent images and videos, including blackmailing them with threats to hack their accounts or release material publicly. In one case, explicit images of a victim were shared online alongside their personal details. Police recovered thousands of messages from his mobile phone seized in 2024, revealing persistent abuse. A gaming device from his home contained extreme pornography and additional indecent material. Arrested multiple times in 2024 and 2025.

Cox was found guilty by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court of two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that the defendant had offered money to the boy in exchange for the sex videos. During the investigation, Cox lied to police, falsely claiming he was the victim of a blackmail plot orchestrated by the underage boy. He denied the offences throughout the trial and continued to do so even after conviction. The case, which shocked the local community due to Cox's position as a teacher, was prosecuted by Gwent Police. Judge Rhys Harrison described the defendant's actions as predatory and exploitative. Cox was sentenced to four years and six months in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Officers saw him leaving the hotel and challenged him; during a brief scuffle he was taken to the floor and restrained. Ali told officers he had a weapon, and a search revealed a 20-inch machete in his waistband. He was also found in possession of over £3,700-worth of heroin and crack cocaine, along with £1,000 in cash. Examination of his phone revealed messages indicative of drug dealing.
Pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine and heroin with intent to supply, possession of a bladed article, and possession of criminal property. Had five previous convictions for 11 offences including possession of cannabis and a 2019 bladed article offence. Expressed difficulty with custody and distance from family. One woman recognised him from a South Wales Argus report as a convicted sex offender and contacted police.
Pleaded guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order. Judge Richard Williams noted it was a serious breach causing alarm. Mitigating: not communicating with under 18s, risk of institutionalisation. Ordered to pay a victim surcharge.

On the night of 26 February 2026, Liman Xhebexhia and a gang broke into a family home on Cherry Tree Lane, Ebbw Vale, by smashing a ground-floor bathroom window. They mistakenly believed the property was linked to organised crime and contained a cannabis stash. The mother and her three children were upstairs; hearing the noise, they barricaded themselves in a bedroom with their dog and called 999. The intruders searched upstairs, tried to force the barricaded door, then fled after realising someone was there. They left the house ransacked and stole the family’s Kia car. Blood recovered from the broken window was forensically matched to Xhebexhia. He initially denied involvement, claiming he might have cut himself while doing building work at the property previously. He later admitted entering with intent to steal, believing it was a cannabis factory. The family had only lived there for three weeks after a house swap and had no connection to crime.
Pleaded guilty to burglary and theft. The gang wrongly targeted the family home, believing it was linked to organised crime. The mother and children barricaded themselves in a bedroom. He had eight previous convictions for 15 offences, including burglary and robbery. The judge noted it must have been obvious to him it was a family home. He will serve 40% in custody before release.
Marc Fox

Marc Fox, 50, from Porth, used concealed equipment to secretly access the internet and download indecent images of children, some depicting victims as young as two. On 26 August 2025, officers visited his address and found devices designed to conceal his internet activity, breaching his sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). A laptop seized contained an extensive library of category A indecent images of children, including one depicting a two-year-old child being sexually abused, and written stories describing child abuse, including an extreme example involving a child in a mortuary. Fox had previous convictions in 2006, 2016 and 2022 for sexual offences against children.
Judge Paul Hobson stated: “You are a 50-year-old paedophile with a troubling history of sexual offending. You have been before the courts on a number of occasions and it does not seem to have deterred you in any way.” Fox was assessed as posing a high risk of committing further offences against children. He will remain subject to sex offender notification requirements indefinitely.

Mohammed Sadiq, a mosque teacher at Madina Mosque on Woodville Road, Cathays, Cardiff, sexually assaulted four young girls during Koran studies between 1996 and 2006. He abused his position of trust and authority, creating a culture where physical punishment was normal. The victims were primary school age children who called him 'uncle' out of respect.
Denied 15 counts of indecent and sexual assault but found guilty of 14 counts (six indecent assault, eight sexual assault) after trial. Judge Stephen Hopkins QC noted lack of remorse. Indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order imposed.
Michael Tustin

Michael Tustin, 33, from Ninian Road, Roath, Cardiff, began abusing his victim before she was a teenager, plying her with Apple Sourz until intoxicated, sexually touching and raping her on multiple occasions while filming it. The victim felt guilty, isolated herself, and contemplated suicide. Abuse discovered after she told her mother; Tustin's phone contained videos/images of the abuse and other indecent images of children. He initially denied intercourse but later pleaded guilty.
Pleaded guilty to rape, sexual touching of a girl under 13 and possession of indecent images. Of previous good character. Judge David Wynn Morgan noted severe psychological harm caused to victim.
Neil Espin
Supply of cocaine, cannabis and pregabalin *

Neil Espin, of Tewkesbury Walk, Newport, maintained a factory job while dealing drugs to fund his crack cocaine addiction. Officers carried out a search warrant at his home on March 7 2026 after intelligence linked him to a drugs line and Snapchat account connected to cocaine supply. His phone was seized along with a small quantity of cannabis. Messages provided clear evidence of involvement in supplying class A, B and C drugs. He admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine, cannabis and pregabalin along with simple possession of cannabis.
Guilty pleas entered on basis of being a long-term crack addict who connected people with dealer in exchange for free drugs. 15 previous convictions including 2023 supply of crack cocaine and heroin resulting in three-year sentence. Functioning addict with stable employment and housing.
Neil Owen
Inflicting grievous bodily harm *

Neil Owen, 47, of Mill Street, Pontypridd, was physically abusive towards his wife during their 15-year relationship, which ended in 2025 due to his infidelity. Prior incidents included throwing her to the floor and repeatedly kicking her bottom causing bruising, and kicking her leg and punching her arm causing bruising on Christmas Eve 2024. The final incident on September 2, 2025, after they split, occurred when Owen attended her home to collect belongings. They argued about his infidelity; she pushed him towards the door and told him to leave. He pushed her back, spat at her; she spat back, pushed him out, but he forced her backwards into the kitchen counter, causing her to hit her back and fall, fracturing her spine. A neighbour intervened. Owen called her a 'p***y' when she couldn't get up.
Pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm and two counts of assault by beating. No previous convictions. On remand in custody since September 2025, equivalent to an 18-month sentence. Made subject to a restraining order for 10 years.
Nicholas Froom
Distributing and making indecent images of children *

Nicholas Froom shared child rape images with other paedophiles and possessed indecent images of children on his phone. He was arrested in June following a tip-off from the National Crime Agency to Gwent Police. Officers raided his home in Risca, South Wales, and discovered child abuse material. He admitted to being sexually attracted to 15‑year‑old children but not to babies. The images he shared included a category A image of a three‑year‑old child being raped. In total, police found 37 category A images, 12 category B, and 11 category C images. He pleaded guilty to distributing and making indecent images of children.
Pleaded guilty to distributing category A and C indecent images of children and making category A, B, and C indecent images. Genuine remorse, no previous convictions. Described as 'warped' by Judge Eugene Egan, who called it a 'real knife-edge case'. Also ordered to complete 100 hours unpaid work, a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement, a four-month electronically monitored curfew (8pm–6am), register as a sex offender for 10 years, and pay £150 costs.
Nazif Lala
Conspiracy to supply cocaine and crack cocaine *

Nazif Lala, 25, of Oxford, was part of an organised crime group involved in a large-scale drug supply network stretching across south Wales and the south-west of England. The operation involved cocaine, crack cocaine, MDMA, methamphetamine, and ketamine with a street value of more than £3.5m. He served as a courier, transporting drugs to the group's extensive customer base.
All five pleaded guilty at their sentencing hearing on Monday. Nazif Lala admitted conspiracy to supply cocaine and crack cocaine.
Mckenzie Newberry
Aggravated vehicle-taking *

McKenzie Newberry, 20, of Maesglas Crescent, Newport, drove a stolen white Volkswagen Golf with false number plates in the Llantarnam area of Cwmbran on April 17 at excessive speed while under the influence of cocaine. Pursued by police, he reached 80mph in a 30mph zone, overtook other road users forcing evasive action, and collided with a truck carrying gas canisters and a bus with passengers. He fled on foot, was tracked by a police dog, and found hiding in a pipe in a wooded area. The vehicle contained a zombie-style machete with a 50cm blade.
Pleaded guilty to drug driving, aggravated vehicle-taking, driving while disqualified, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of cloned number plates, and driving without a licence and insurance. Has one previous conviction for similar matters. Remanded in custody since April. Also disqualified from driving for 12 months following release from prison.
Melvyn Moreton
Sexual abuse of a child *

Melvyn Moreton, a 38-year-old kitchen porter, was convicted of nine charges of indecent assault and indecency against a young schoolgirl. The abuse started when the victim was eight and continued until she was eleven. He manipulated the girl into role-playing kidnapping scenarios to facilitate the assaults. The offences took place in the Vale of Glamorgan area. Moreton denied the charges but was found guilty after a two-day trial. Judge Christopher Vosper sentenced him to five years in prison and disqualified him from working with children.

Michael Patrick

Michael Patrick sexually abused a schoolgirl aged between eight and 10 on two occasions between 1979 and 1982 in the Caerphilly county area, including locations in Gwerna Crescent, Maesycwmmer, Hengoed, Wales.
Admitted one count of indecent assault and was convicted of another following a trial. Mitigation included learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorder, and schizoaffective personality disorder. Ordered to register as a sex offender for life and made subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
Mark Powell

Mark Powell subjected his now ex-partner to a campaign of domestic abuse over several years. The couple were together for a decade and married. Powell assaulted the victim on three separate occasions: in December 2016, leaving her with a black eye; in April 2021, headbutting her after drinking; and in February 2025, dragging her by the hair and punching her. From January 2024, he began a harassment campaign, turning up at her home, taking her Ring doorbell, and making derogatory comments. He later appeared in her home while she slept and let down her car tyres, forcing her to move in with her brother. Despite bail conditions not to contact her, he continued to call from a withheld number. On November 3, 2025, he damaged her car and was found drunk behind the wheel of his own vehicle.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, harassment, criminal damage, and drink-driving. 14 previous convictions for 21 offences. Judge Christopher Felstead granted a 15-year restraining order and a 38-month driving ban.
Marley Bracher
Possession and distribution of indecent images of children *

Marley Bracher, 19, of Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, committed sexual offences against children, involving possession and distribution of indecent images. The crimes were uncovered by South Wales Police, highlighting the threat of online child sexual exploitation. Bracher pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court.
Pleaded guilty. Additional order: Registration on the sex offenders' register. Judge said: 'These offences represent a grave betrayal of trust and a direct harm to vulnerable children.'
Martin Conway

Martin Conway, 36, and Christopher Llewellyn, 34, broke into a Canton property in the early hours of the morning while the 78-year-old victim slept. Llewellyn entered the victim’s bedroom and took the victim’s debit card before video footage showed him running to the end of the street and giving it to Conway. Conway then used the card at a nearby cashpoint and took £500 from the victim’s account. Both suspects changed clothes and shoes in an attempt to avoid detection. The pair can then be seen using the money for alcohol in a nearby garage before leaving in a taxi.
Charged with burglary and fraud by false representation. Given a 10-year restraining order against the victim.
Mark Owen
Breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) *

Mark Owen, 57, of Cinderhill Street, Monmouth, was released on 23 October 2025 after serving a full nine-and-a-half-year term for prior child sex offence. Days later, his offender manager found prohibited social media apps on his phone including Snapchat, TikTok, Telegram, Signal and Facebook, plus visits to dating websites such as Smooth.com. Phone seized and examined confirming regular use in the week post-release. Arrested for SHPO breach. In interview denied but suggested accidental TikTok access. Defence claimed second-hand phone from relative, previously shown to police on 27 and 31 October, no evidence of contact with under-18s, breach spanned four days.
Pleaded guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). Given one-quarter discount for guilty plea. Recorder Greg Bull KC noted deliberate breach with apps used multiple times. Will serve up to half in custody before release on licence. Has eight prior convictions for 16 offences including child sexual assault.

Hafiz Razaq conspired with Ross Gardner to sell a Grandpower handgun online using the encrypted messaging service EncroChat. The plot was uncovered after the EncroChat servers were taken down in 2020, and Lancashire Constabulary investigated. The handgun sale was never completed.

Gordon Walbridge, of Lansdowne Road, Newport, engaged in disturbing online discussions about the sexual abuse of children between September 9 last year and March 6, including stating he was attracted to girls as young as eight and would take a teenager off the street for sex. He breached his indefinite sexual harm prevention order (imposed in 2017) by setting up fake Facebook accounts and wiping his browsing history. Officers found 16 category A, one category B and six category C indecent images of children on his mobile phone. He has multiple prior convictions for similar offences, including sentences in 2017, 2019 and January 2024.
Admitted possessing indecent images of children and five counts of breaching his sexual harm prevention order. Lengthy history of child sex offences. Mental health issues raised in mitigation. Must register as a sex offender for life; indefinite sexual harm prevention order remains in force.
