Stephen Farrow murdered 77-year-old Betty Yates on January 2, 2012, by breaking into her home in Bewdley, Worcestershire, striking her from behind with a heavy walking stick, causing her to fall and hit her head, then stabbing her four times and leaving the knife in the fatal wound. Six weeks later, on February 13, 2012, he murdered 59-year-old Rev John Suddards after being let into his vicarage in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, attacking him with knives causing seven deep wounds, kicking him back to the floor, and watching him die while telling him to 'f****** die then and hurry up'. Farrow then drank beer, ate food, watched DVDs, and left the next morning. The body was found on February 14 surrounded by pornography, party poppers, a condom wrapper, underwear, a canvas of Jesus Christ, and a mirror. This was part of a two-month reign of terror including threats to kill 'Christian scum' and a burglary where he left a threatening note to Alan and Margaret Pinder reading 'Be thankful you didn’t come back or we will have killed you, Christian scum. I f****** hate God.' Farrow had an obsession with religion, claimed abuse by a priest, and wanted to murder the Archbishop of Canterbury. He sent a chilling text on New Year’s Eve 2011 warning that the 'church will be the first to suffer' and believed 2012 marked the 'second coming of Christ.'

Vincent Tabak strangled Joanna Yeates at her flat at 44 Canynge Road, Clifton, Bristol, on 17 December 2010, shortly after she returned home. He used sufficient force to kill her, causing 43 separate injuries to her head, neck, torso and arms including cuts, bruises and a fractured nose during a struggle. He then concealed the crime by transporting and disposing of her body in a quarry near Longwood Lane, Failand, North Somerset.
Pleaded guilty to manslaughter but was found guilty of murder by a 10 to 2 majority verdict. Judge Mr Justice Field referred to a 'sexual element' to the killing.

Jonathan Haynes, a 30-year-old former Royal Logistics Corp lance corporal based at Buckley Barracks, Hullavington, near Chippenham, raped an 18-year-old student at Glamorgan University halls of residence on September 26, 2009. Prior to this, he abducted and raped a 16-year-old girl in Chippenham, Wiltshire, on September 13, 2009. He also raped a 17-year-old girl in Chippenham in 2010 and attempted to snatch two 14-year-old girls from a country lane near Chippenham in February 2010.
Found guilty of six counts of rape, two of kidnap and two of attempting to kidnap following a three week trial. Judge Neil Ford QC described him as a 'clever and cunning predator' and warned he might never be released.

Paul Beart, a 25-year-old sex-crazed psychopath, murdered 31-year-old Deborah O'Sullivan on April 29, 2001, in Newquay, Cornwall. After being released early from a five-year sentence for indecent assault, he violated his probation, travelled to Newquay, stalked women, assaulted two teenage girls, and then subjected Deborah to an hour-long brutal attack on a footpath beside Newquay's seaside golf course off Atlantic Road. He strangled, beat her with a litter bin, tortured and mutilated her. She died three days later in Plymouth hospital. Beart confessed to police immediately after.
Described by the judge as 'a callous sadist'. Pleaded guilty. Judge noted he had fooled prison experts into believing he was a model prisoner.

Raymond Ellis carried out a sophisticated and harrowing attack on a 17-year-old girl close to midnight on March 15, 1987, in Sheffield. The survivor was approaching her home after a night out when she became aware of someone behind her. She ran but lost a shoe, which her pursuer picked up. She was struck on the head, grabbed, and dragged to Earl Marshall School Fields at the rear of Skinnerthorpe Road. The attacker removed an item of her clothing to tie her feet together and forced her to perform a sexual act. He then made her lie face down and fled. The victim called police from a nearby telephone box. Advancements in forensic science led to a DNA match from her leather jacket sleeve.
Found guilty of Indecent Assault. Arrested in August 2019 following DNA match. Claimed memory loss due to brain injury.

Mark Foley, of Cardiff, director of M E Foley (Contractors) Ltd, allowed approximately 100,000 tonnes of waste, including hazardous materials such as chopped/shredded plastics, metals, foam and other man-made materials that were carcinogenic or ecotoxic, to be illegally dumped at Stowey Quarry, a former limestone quarry near Chew Valley reservoir in Somerset, in the first nine months of 2016. The site was permitted only for clean and non-hazardous material like soil and construction waste for recovery purposes. Waste was misleadingly described as 'soil substitute'. Despite repeated warnings from the Environment Agency, illegal tipping continued. The company declared only 44,950 tonnes but actual amount was nearly 95,000 tonnes. Permit suspended in October 2016.
Activities described as 'one of the most serious risks of harm in the country during the past 30 years'. Company M E Foley (Contractors) Ltd fined £72,000.
Matthew Moseley

Matthew Moseley, of Brookthorpe Avenue, Lawrence Weston, Bristol, sexually abused a teenage boy by grabbing him, kissing him, groping his private parts, and pushing himself against him. He took three photos of himself groping the boy's private parts, which were found on his phone along with around 200 photos of children in various states of undress. The boy's DNA was found on Moseley's hands. The victim reported the abuse to his family, leading to police investigation.
Pleaded guilty to two charges of having sexual activity with a child and one charge of making an indecent photograph of a child. Handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and required to sign as a sex offender for life. Judge Euan Ambrose noted the profound impact on the victim and families.
Michael Beirne
Attempting to smuggle prohibited drugs into prison *

Michael Beirne, an inmate at Lewes Prison, called his girlfriend Lucy D’Cruze and instructed her to place cocaine and ketamine in the men's toilets at the Sussex Eye Hospital in Brighton so that a prisoner could collect them and smuggle them into prison. After his hospital appointment was delayed by a day, he told D’Cruze to retrieve the drugs and return the next day to hide them again. A prison officer escorting the prisoner discovered the drugs, preventing them from entering the prison. Beirne was serving a 75-month sentence for a series of knifepoint robberies in Eastbourne.

Michael Tedstone, of Weston-super-Mare, engaged in sexually explicit online chats with a profile he believed was a 13-year-old girl named Olivia, who was actually an undercover police officer, in October 2021. Contact via Kick and Snapchat progressed from sending photos of his face and chest, asking for photos, receiving a photo of a young female in underwear, sending a photo of his naked private parts, and making sexualised suggestions. He was recognised from previous offending. His phone contained predatory search terms but no indecent images. He admitted the offence to police.
Pleaded guilty to attempting to incite child sexual activity, breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and attempted sexual communication with a child. Recorder Mr Malcolm Gibney told him: 'It would appear you have not learned your lesson from your appearance in this court.' Previous suspended sentence in 2019 for similar offence.

A third victim was a woman over 16, and after a trial in December, he was found guilty of three counts of rape and one count of indecent assault against her. Victims described long-lasting trauma.

Zaeden Perkins, along with Hamza Mahmoud and Faisal Uriakhail, stabbed a man in a frenzied and sustained three-on-one attack in broad daylight just before 3.30pm on February 18, 2023, in a park between Baldwin Road and Monmouth Road, Halcon, Taunton. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening. Police and ambulance crews attended the scene in the residential area.

He threatened a police officer responding to an assault report, appeared under the influence of drugs or alcohol, behaved aggressively in a shop and walked towards the officer. He was arrested and pleaded guilty.

On 3 May 2019, Thomas Griffiths, a 17-year-old sixth form student, stabbed his ex-girlfriend Eleanor Gould to death at her home in Calne, Wiltshire. Gould had ended their three-month relationship. After an argument, Griffiths attempted to strangle her, then stabbed her 13 times in the neck with a knife taken from the family kitchen. He spent an hour cleaning the crime scene, using clothes to wipe away evidence and washing his trainers. He placed the knife in Gould's hand to make her injuries appear self-inflicted and used her phone to text a friend, cancelling a lift. Griffiths later admitted murder at Bristol Crown Court.
Pleaded guilty to murder. The judge described his actions as a 'frenzied knife attack' and 'the most appalling act' on a 'vulnerable young woman in her own home'. Griffiths was 17 at the time of the murder and could not receive a whole life order due to his age.

Thomas Hancock, a teacher at a school in Gloucestershire, nurtured relationships with two pupils aged 17 and 16. He groped and kissed the 17-year-old on multiple occasions, put her hand inside his trousers, and expressed sexual desires. To the 16-year-old, he sent lewd footage of himself, photos of his private parts, videos of sex acts, and messaged about wanting sex with her at school.
Pleaded guilty to sexual assault and sexual assault (on multiple occasions), in a position of trust, on a 17-year-old; causing or inciting a child to look at sexual activity, and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, in a position of trust, on a 16-year-old. 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order imposed.

Tim Dale, 42, of Twerton, Bath, committed two offences of indecent assault against two girls between the ages of seven and 15. The offences took place between 1996 and 2003. He acted independently and took advantage of vulnerable young girls.

The cash should have been booked into the enquiry office at Bridgwater Custody Centre as found property. Instead he pocketed the money for his own personal financial gain.
Dismissed following a misconduct hearing held in front of Chief Constable Andy Marsh.
Younes Benmohammed

Younes Benmohammed, 45, attacked his friend Wasim Aziz, 36, after an evening of drinking and playing poker. The assault began when Benmohammed accused Aziz of sharing a photo of his ex-girlfriend with a black eye. He punched Aziz repeatedly, struck him with a spirit level, and stabbed him with a kitchen knife to the hand, torso, belly, and side. Aziz was made to lift his top so Benmohammed could cut him further, and was told he would not be released unless he paid thousands of pounds. The victim, who had urinated in his trousers out of fear, was eventually driven home by Benmohammed and his partner, where a housemate called an ambulance. The victim suffered serious injuries and the attack lasted several hours. Benmohammed was convicted by a jury at Hove Crown Court in September 2023 and sentenced later that year.
Convicted after trial of causing GBH with intent. The judge described the assault as 'vicious and prolonged'. The defendant had numerous previous convictions for violence including ABH, battery, and affray. The attack involved punching, use of a spirit level and a knife, and the victim was degraded and injured. The judge found a significant risk of future serious harm and imposed an extended sentence. Alcohol and cocaine use were aggravating factors.
