Gabriel Marinoaica
Rape *
Sentence
six and a half years imprisonment
On July 18, 2021, Gabriel Marinoaica targeted a group of young girls on Bournemouth beach. He pulled the 15-year-old victim, who could not swim, into deeper water, groped her, raped her while covering her mouth to prevent her from screaming or seeking help, and ignored her pleas that she did not want to have sex. The attack occurred in broad daylight on a busy summer afternoon, making the victim feel vulnerable and frightened. Semen found in the complainant’s bikini matched his DNA, leading to his arrest 11 months later.
Found guilty by jury of three charges of sexual assault and rape; acquitted of one charge of sexual assault by biting. Judge Susan Evans KC noted predatory behaviour, the attack's brazen nature in a public place, and that it undermined public confidence in safety. Also subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 20 years and required to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
