Simon Steeves, 71, stabbed his wife Denise Steeves, 59, to death at their home in Diamond Meadow Lodge Park, Weston Road, Brean, on October 25, 2023. He then called 999 and informed police he had murdered her. Officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but Denise died at the scene. Steeves was arrested at the scene and charged the following day.

He stabbed her several times in a pre-meditated attack near a pub on Filton Avenue. Members of the public intervened, causing him to drop the knife, and he was arrested at the scene. The victim required stitches and was fortunate not to be more seriously injured.
Admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but was convicted of attempted murder. The judge praised the bravery of members of the public who intervened.

Material was also found glorifying proscribed extreme right-wing banned organisations relating to Nazism, racism, anti-Semitism ideology. Also found at his address was a large amount of clothing, flags and stickers illustrating and supporting right wing views.

He neglected to declare Pullan, who was also receiving benefits. Between them, they claimed £22,000 in Housing and Council Tax benefits, with the rest for Income Support and Jobseekers Allowance. The investigation uncovered at least 18 properties managed by Hove Properties and 66 documents linking Furness to the agency, plus documents linking Pullan. Furness claimed he was paying rent when he wasn’t and Pullan produced false rent receipts. He also produced a false tenancy agreement for a flat in St Aubyns, Hove, where a third party was living. Pullan received undeclared income from foreign students and Hove Properties.

Robert Austin, the director of a Brighton timber company, Mackintosh and Partners, defrauded the business of £2.6 million between 2002 and 2008 by falsifying accounting records. The company, which had traded profitably for 70 years and had locations in Brighton and Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, went into administration in 2008 and later liquidation as a direct result of the losses. This led to job losses for employees and directors. The fraud was reported to police in 2011 following an internal investigation. Austin, whose father owned the company, positioned himself in financial control driven by greed, affecting many lives.

Life imprisonment with minimum term of 38 years
Collin Reeves, a 35-year-old former Royal Engineer and Afghanistan veteran, stabbed his neighbours Stephen Chapple (36) and Jennifer Chapple (33) to death with a ceremonial dagger at their home in Dragon Rise, Norton Fitzwarren, near Taunton in Somerset, on the evening of November 21, 2022. The murders followed a long-running dispute over parking spaces on the new-build housing development since May 2022. Less than an hour before the attack, Reeves' wife had asked for a trial separation. He climbed the fence separating their gardens, entered through the back door, and stabbed each victim six times while their two young children slept upstairs. Reeves called the police shortly after to confess but denied murder in court.
Unanimously convicted of murder. Claimed manslaughter due to diminished responsibility but diagnosed with only mild to moderate depression. Judge noted the killings tore the heart out of two families and left the victims' children orphans.

They then moved to the bottom of St James’s Street where they hurled homophobic abuse at a 34-year-old gay man, punched him, chased him across Old Steine to the bus stops near Pavilion Gardens, and continued the assault, requiring stitches for his wounds. During the assault, Wilson snatched the victim's phone as he tried to call police. The attacks were unprovoked, racially and homophobically motivated.
Found guilty after an 11-day trial. Judge Anthony Niblett described the attacks as unprovoked and vicious, motivated by the victim's eastern European accent and the second victim's sexuality. Also convicted of stealing a mobile phone.

On October 9, 2023, in Broadbridge Heath, West Sussex, shortly before 3pm, Paul Drayton was driving a 4x4 vehicle, swerving from side to side. Concerned members of the public called the police. Officers tracked him down, signalled him to pull over, and he complied but then reversed into the police vehicle. He was boxed in by other police cars. A breath test showed 153 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, four times the legal limit.
Originally sentenced to 14 weeks imprisonment on Wednesday, which was suspended on appeal. Pleaded guilty. Judge commented on his exemplary life, mental health struggles, recent brain surgery, and split from partner. Barrister noted previous good character and problems with alcohol. He continued trading with the winnings, accumulating £4.6 million by August 2017. Separately, he committed fraud by abuse of position by taking his mother's money while holding power of attorney, depriving other family members of their inheritance.

Liam McKane, 54, of Uxbridge, London, punched Colin Leslie, 51, from Cheltenham, in the head following a drunken disagreement outside The Kingsbridge Inn in Bourton-on-the-Water on August 28, 2021. Mr Leslie fell backwards, hit his head on the floor, was treated by paramedics at the scene, and taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he died eight days later on September 5, 2021.
Pleaded guilty to manslaughter on June 26. Judge Picton remarked that the defendant's actions were unjustified and had devastating consequences for the victim's family and the defendant's own family.

On March 27, 2023, David Parish entered the home of Peter and Beryl Purdy in Broomfield while suffering from psychosis due to schizophrenia induced by cannabis use. He trapped Peter in the kitchen and beat Beryl Purdy to death with a golf umbrella. In the days prior, Parish had been acting strangely, carrying an axe and a samurai sword, and believed he was in danger. After the attack, he stole £75 and clothing to facilitate his escape and was arrested later that evening.
Pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility. Had no previous convictions. Sentencing was delayed for psychiatric reports. Judge Saini noted that Parish should have been detained under the Mental Health Act and that his psychosis was triggered by drug consumption.
