On October 1, agents raided his home and seized his phone, which contained 3,651 indecent images of children, including some of the most serious category. David Bieber, a former US marine and bodybuilder serving a life sentence for the 2003 murder of PC Ian Broadhurst and attempted murder of two colleagues, attacked prison officer Alison Smith at HMP Long Lartin on August 10, 2017. He used a homemade pronged iron bar to grab her around the neck and launch a frenzied 10-second assault, punching her face and attempting to stab her, while threatening to kill her. The attack occurred in a locked corridor where she was isolated and vulnerable. Bieber claimed it was to secure a transfer to HMP Belmarsh for medication access. He was convicted of wounding with intent and possessing an unauthorised weapon after a week-long trial. The victim sustained cuts to her mouth, chin, and four wounds to her right arm, requiring hospital treatment, and has suffered life-changing constant pain and psychological harm.
Sentenced as a dangerous offender. Attack was planned and unprovoked, aimed at securing a prison transfer for better access to painkilling medication. Victim suffered permanent psychological condition. Overall minimum term extended from 37 to 43 years, eligible for release in 2047.

Nezam Salangy murdered his 28-year-old wife Zobaidah Salangy, likely at their Prego Pizza shop on Austin Road in Bromsgrove, on or around 27 March 2020. He dumped her body in an unmarked grave near Lower Bentley village, where it remained undiscovered for six months until October 2020. Salangy covered up the murder by sending fake text messages from her phone, reporting her missing, and claiming she had left him for a new boyfriend and intended to return to Afghanistan. The body was found bound in curtain wire, wrapped in black bin bags and a duvet cover matching items from their home. Telephone evidence linked him to arranging concealment with his brothers.
Pleaded not guilty but found guilty by jury after six-week trial. Judge noted prior violence in marriage and premeditated intent to kill. Continues to deny guilt.

He also pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply 9kg of cannabis.

Mark Toogood, aged 28 and of Stourbridge Road in Dudley, was involved in a series of about 38 burglaries across the Midlands over the previous year, including break-ins in Redditch and Bromsgrove areas. He was arrested for burglary last June and found selling stolen property on free websites. Detectives analysed his phones and used automatic number plate recognition camera data to link him to the offences. The investigation involved West Mercia Police and other forces, becoming international due to Canadian-registered websites used to advertise stolen goods.

On November 23, 2013, officers attempted to stop Phidel Gonzales driving on the ring road in Redditch. He rolled out of the car and ran off, causing the vehicle to crash into a fence outside a house. After a short foot chase, he was caught and searched at a police station, where 70 deals of crack and 70 deals of heroin, with a combined street value of £2,100, were found on him.
Admitted possession of crack with intent to supply, possession of heroin with intent to supply, driving without due care and attention, driving without insurance and without a licence. Concurrent sentences for drugs offences, no separate penalty for careless driving, 9 penalty points for insurance and licence offences, disqualified from driving for 6 months upon release.

Peter Want of St Paul’s Street, Worcester, committed offences last May. Officers stopped his vehicle, recovering heroin, crack cocaine, and numerous weapons including a viable firearm concealed as a pen, black-handled axe, brown sword, Samurai sword, small black sword, firing pistol, and crossbow.
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine and heroin), possession of a black-handled axe and a brown sword in a sheath. Convicted of two counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place (Samurai sword and small black sword), possession of a disguised firearm ('pen gun'), possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate, possession of an imitation firearm in a public place (firing pistol), possession of a crossbow in a public place, and possession with intent to supply class B drug (cannabis).

Norbert Pulko

Norbert Pulko was one of six men involved in an acid attack on a three-year-old boy at Home Bargains. The boy was looking at footballs with his brother when acid was sprayed on him at around 2.45pm on Saturday, July 21, 2018. The boy suffered serious burns to his arm and face, leaving him scarred for life.
Convicted following a six and a half week trial. Aged 22, of Sutherland Road, London.
