After threatening him with a knife, the driver handed over around £100 cash and a mobile phone to Sheward who fled the scene on foot. Officers found discarded shopping which led to CCTV at Tescos on London Road identifying him. Sheward was arrested on Monday 16 September 2024 and found with another knife.
Previously pleaded guilty to robbery and two counts of possession of a bladed article in a public place at a hearing in March. Sentences for possession charges (8 months and 10 months) to run concurrently.
Alfie Booth

He was arrested on April 3 by West Mercia Police and was found in possession of an air rifle, despite being prohibited due to a previous conviction, and was involved in an affray incident in Ledbury. Police seized cocaine with a street value of over £30,000, cannabis worth £30,000, edibles valued at over £5,000, and a substantial amount of cash.
Found guilty of being concerned in the supply of a class A drug (cocaine), being concerned in the supply of a class B drug (cannabis), affray, and acquiring/using/possessing criminal property. The charge of possessing an air weapon when prohibited was ordered to lie on file.
Scott Chapman
Rape of a girl aged 13 to 15 *

Scott Chapman added his victim on Snapchat and Instagram in 2020 when he was 19 years old, before meeting her and engaging in sexual activity with her even though he knew she was only 14 at the time. Evidence of these crimes and other sexual offences were uncovered by the investigation, and though he denied his intimate relationship with her, an examination of his phone proved otherwise.

Matthew Jonathan, 39, of no fixed abode, tortured and killed Jamie Gawler, 54, in his home in Hereford after being offered a place to stay. The victim suffered blunt force trauma to the head, neck, and chest over several days starting around January 12, 2025. Jonathan filmed the assault, directed homophobic abuse at Gawler, stole and used his bank cards to buy alcohol, and left him to die before fleeing to Porth, where he was arrested.
Pleaded guilty to murder in April 2025. The attack involved prolonged violence and homophobic abuse, as described by the Crown Prosecution Service.

On 24 November 2024, Daniel Kilpatrick and his sister Stacey went to Patrick Pahita's address on Gloucester Road in Ross-on-Wye after a social media dispute. They kicked his door and repeatedly shouted that they were going to kill him. When Mr Pahita opened the door armed with a baseball bat for self-defence, Daniel was struck and fell to the ground. The incident lasted over seven minutes. Daniel had also sent an unprovoked threatening message to the victim's mother on 24 November and an offensive message to a friend of his former partner on 13 November 2024.
Pleaded guilty to affray and sending threatening and offensive messages. Suffered a broken eye socket during the incident. Mental health difficulties and genuine remorse cited. Ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days, 120-day alcohol abstinence monitoring, and a 12-month mental health treatment requirement.
David Carr

Christopher Hemming, 47, of Other Road in Redditch, brutally killed his 44-year-old ex-partner Cheryl Mckenna in a frenzied knife attack on the morning of Monday 11 November 2024 at the home they still shared following the breakdown of their relationship which began in 2010 and ended at the start of 2024. On the day of the murder, Hemming discovered Cheryl was in a new relationship and stabbed her multiple times in the bedroom. After the attack, he called a friend using her phone stating 'I wish the camera worked on this phone so I could show you what I’ve done', then called emergency services calmly saying 'I’ve killed my ex-partner'. Emergency services pronounced Cheryl dead at the scene due to severe injuries. Hemming was arrested inside the address on suspicion of murder and charged with the same offence. Despite initially admitting to police that he had killed Cheryl, he entered a not guilty plea to murder and pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but changed his plea to guilty of murder on the fifth day of the trial.

A full forensic examination of his mobile phone found hundreds of indecent photographs of children across Categories A, B and C, with children aged between six months to 16 years. He distributed indecent photographs across Categories A, B and C. Conversations showed a sexual interest in children, discussing sexual acts he would like to commit. Devices contained prohibited images and extreme pornographic images relating to bestiality. He published an obscene article entering an online discussion over the rape of a three-year-old boy.
Pled guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children, three counts of distributing indecent photographs of children, possession of a prohibited image of a child, possession of extreme pornography and publishing an obscene article. Further ordered to comply with a supervision requirement with the Probation Service with a 60-day rehabilitation requirement and 300 hours unpaid work. Made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

Sanaa Shahzad allowed her brother, Khizer Ali, to drive her VW Golf on April 23, 2024, knowing he was a learner driver without insurance. Earlier that day, she drove the car dangerously and at excess speed around Redditch, as captured on dashcam. She also refused to provide the password to her mobile phone, hindering the police investigation into a crash where Ali drove at 59mph in a 40mph zone on the A441 Alvechurch Highway, resulting in the death of Valerie Ayres and life-changing injuries to David Ayres.
Pled guilty to causing or permitting the use of a vehicle without valid insurance or a licence and to refusing to give police the password to her mobile phone. Detective Constable Rose Hughes commented that she bears responsibility for the tragedy and obstructed the investigation.
Craig Nunn

In the early hours of Saturday 26 October 2024, Craig Nunn was driving on the A451 between Stourport and Kidderminster at over 90mph and under the influence of amphetamines when he went through a red light and collided with a car carrying three-week-old Harley Wilkinson, Imogen Bradley, and Jake Wilkinson. Harley tragically died at the scene, and his father suffered serious injuries including spinal fractures. During the investigation, an imitation firearm, an axe, and a knife were discovered in Nunn's car.
Pled guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drug driving, possession of an imitation firearm, and two counts of possession of a knife or bladed article. The additional sentences of two months for the possession offences are to be served concurrently.
Steven Ronan Wilson

In 2009, Wilson's victim was on a night out in Worcester city centre when he left his friends to go home and went to a taxi rank on The Cross. Wilson, whom the victim did not know, approached him and asked whether he wanted to go back to his flat in Worcester to attend 'a party where there are lot of girls'. Upon arrival, there was no party and no girls. Wilson locked the door, put pornography on the TV, and forced the victim to perform oral sex on him. Wilson then sexually assaulted the victim. The ordeal lasted three or four hours until Wilson allowed the victim to leave as it was light outside.
Previously found guilty of rape and sexual assault on April 4. Ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Joshua Newell raped a girl aged under 16 between 2005 and 2007 and sexually assaulted a girl between 2007 and 2008, when he himself was under 16. Between 2016 and 2022, he made an indecent photograph (accessible Category A movie of a child) and two accessible Category B movies of a child, and possessed 14 accessible extreme pornographic movies portraying intercourse with a live animal.

One Category C image was taken while on duty as an ambulance technician in Northamptonshire. Arrested by West Mercia Police in December 2024 following a child sexual assault allegation, with disturbing video footage also found.
Pleaded guilty on February 27 to attempted rape of a child under 13, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 by penetration, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, three counts of taking indecent photos or pseudo-photos of a child, three counts of making indecent photos or pseudo-photos of a child. Will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Connor Cashmore

Connor Cashmore, 28, of Bell Lane, Broadheath, Worcestershire, was part of a paedophile ring and committed 16 child sex offences including rape and sexual assault of children under 13, inciting a child into sexual activity, and making and distributing indecent images of children. He was arrested in September 2024 and pleaded guilty in court. The offences were uncovered by West Mercia Police. At Worcester Crown Court in April 2025 he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, which the judge said reflected the gravity of the crimes and their lasting impact on victims.
Admitted to all 16 charges a month after arrest. Also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the sex offenders' register for life. West Mercia Police described the case as one of the worst instances of child sexual exploitation they had dealt with.

Thomas Odowd, 19, of Charles Crescent in Walsall, was involved in a string of burglaries in Herefordshire. On 10 December 2024, a BMW 2 series and BMW X5 were stolen from a property in Ledbury following a car key burglary. The investigation revealed that Odowd was guilty of both thefts. On 11 July, officers attempted to stop a Ford Transit van linked to a number of garage and shed burglaries across Herefordshire. The vehicle failed to stop but was eventually brought to a standstill. The occupants fled, but a forensic investigation revealed Odowd was inside the vehicle.
Pleaded guilty to burglary, conspiracy to steal from a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit a burglary. Offences of dangerous driving and driving without a licence or insurance were also considered as part of the sentencing.

In 2024, it became apparent Hall had continued to supply controlled drugs in Hereford and was re-arrested before being charged on 3 December.
Ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187 and to forfeit £1,580 in cash. Convicted of possession with intent to supply class A drugs, being concerned in the supply of a class A drug – cocaine, being concerned in the supply of a class B drug – cannabis, and possession of criminal property.

Oliver Dines, a former West Mercia Police officer, abused his position by subjecting two women to inappropriate behaviour while on duty in Herefordshire. In October 2020, he met woman A during her arrest, asked if she was single, took her home, commented on her clothing, inappropriately touched her, sent over 50 messages while on duty, and sent a Facebook friend request. In September 2020, he dealt with woman B's assault report, sent sexualised and explicit messages from work and personal phones, asked for pictures which she refused, continued messaging despite her requests to stop, made unnecessary home visits, and inappropriately touched her on one occasion.
Pleaded guilty to charges under section 26 of the Criminal Justice and Courts Act. Dismissed from West Mercia Police in March 2022 for unrelated misconduct. Two other charges to lie on file.

A category B indecent image of a child was found on his phone, along with evidence of a conversation in which he discussed his intention to commit a sexual act on a five-year-old child. The offences took place in April and June 2023.
Pleaded guilty. Placed on the sex offenders register and handed a sexual harm prevention order, both for 10 years.

Julian Davis, 62, from Stourport-on-Severn, was arrested on December 4, 2024, following an operation by West Mercia Police’s Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team. Officers found cable ties, handcuffs, a whip, lubricant, amphetamine drugs, Viagra, baby wipes, and mobile phones in his vehicle in Worcester. He was charged on December 5 with attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, possession of a controlled drug (Class B – amphetamine), and arranging/facilitating commission of an offence of sexual activity with a child/cause/incite child to engage in penetration.
Found guilty. Handed a lifetime sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely, and to pay £150 costs.

On August 21, 2024, Calum Sunderland, 26, accompanied Sharaz Ali to the house on Westbury Road, Bradford, carrying a canister of petrol and a lighter. He kicked in the door to allow Ali entry, enabling the arson attack that killed Bryonie Gawith, 29, and her three children – Denisty Birtle, nine, Oscar Birtle, five, and Aubree Birtle, 22 months. Sunderland ran back to the car after opening the door and was driven away. He sometimes sold drugs for Ali and was a convicted arsonist.
Found guilty of manslaughter. Claimed he believed he was torching a car and that the house was empty. Judge noted he knew the house was occupied and agreed to an extraordinarily dangerous scheme.

Royston Gill abused his victims between September 1996 and February 2002 in Worcester. He was found guilty on 3 counts of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years, 6 counts of indecent assault, and 1 count of indecency with a child. Gill denied the offences during police interviews. The case was prosecuted by Rebbeca Wade KC. He was remanded into custody after the guilty verdict on 3 July 2024.
Found guilty by jury on 10 counts. Pleaded not guilty. Made subject to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for an indefinite period by Her Honour Judge Gilmore.

Her involvement escalated; she became 'admin' in a Telegram group, welcoming new members, helping access videos and photographs of monkeys being tortured, archiving content into a library of thousands of images and videos, setting up polls for members to vote on torture types, directing payments for videos, and contributing financially herself. She watched and shared the content, expressing delight.
Pleaded guilty to publishing an obscene article and causing unnecessary suffering to animals. Aged 37, of Kidderminster.
Isac Calderon
Causing serious injury by dangerous driving *

On 31 July 2023, Isac Calderon’s car hit a nurse on the A4103 near Shucknall, leaving her with severe injuries and unable to walk. After initially cooperating with police, Calderon failed to appear in court and fled to the USA. A UK warrant was issued for his arrest on 1 December 2023. He was arrested in Texas on 14 July 2024 and extradited back to the UK, appearing at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on 10 October 2024 where he pleaded guilty.
Pleaded guilty to causing injury by dangerous driving. Fled to the USA after failing to appear in court; extradited back to the UK.
Ramal Briem
Conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration *

Ramal Briem, an Iraqi asylum seeker, ran an international people smuggling operation from his home in Wolverhampton, facilitating hundreds of illegal small boat migrant crossings to the UK. He coordinated with gang member 'Kevin' in northern France, discussing fees and movement of migrants referred to as 'chickens'. In March 2024, he arranged transportation of six migrants to Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, via a Netherlands-registered lorry. He collected large cash sums, including £16,000 from 'Kevin' in Croydon, purportedly for cigarettes but linked to smuggling activities. Briem admitted entering the UK illegally by small boat in late 2020 and claimed financial struggles led to his involvement.
Pleaded guilty to conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration. NCA branch commander highlighted his disregard for human life, referring to migrants as 'chickens'.
