Harpal Singh Gill, 67, from Smethwick, previously a textile trader, set up a number of bogus clothing and textile companies between May 2007 and May 2013 to launder £35 million of drug money for crime groups across the country. No actual transactions took place; false invoices were used to disguise the money movement. He adapted the business model to meet minimum UK money laundering regulations.
Initiated and orchestrated the entire operation. Employed friend and accountant Gurpreet Singh Roewal. His Honour Judge Bond said he had taken a leading role in a sophisticated money laundering arrangement which required significant planning over a period of time. Paul Risby said he used his position as head of his family and local businessman to influence family members and associates.

Parts linked to seven vehicles worth almost £200,000 found, including a Range Rover stolen from Old Warwick Road, Solihull, on June 26, 2014. Arrested on July 18, 2014; mobile phone had images of stolen parts and opened letters addressed to him found at unit.
Denied conspiracy to steal motor vehicles but found guilty. Sole carer of four children; judge considered their human rights in sentence length.

Vaughan Davies took part in the savage torture and murder of former soldier Brian Farmer in Yardley, Birmingham. Brian Farmer, 64, a father of two who served 22 years in the Army including in Northern Ireland and the Gulf, was found dead in his Yardley flat on May 19, 2012. He had been stabbed, had broken ribs, and suffered severe bruising.

Sejjad Al-Ghabban and Mostafa Yazdani caused traffic chaos performing stunts on Station Road, Dorridge, on July 10, 2016. Al-Ghabban pulled a wheelie over 100 metres on his Honda scrambler. After falling off and remonstration from motorists, he revved his engine, lost control and careered into a woman, breaking her foot. She required hospital treatment and time off work. Al-Ghabban sped off but was arrested nearby.
Pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. From Augusta Road, Acocks Green. Revved engine to intimidate members of the public, lost control and ran over a woman's foot causing a broken foot. Must pass extended driving test to recover licence.

Scott Hibberts, 28, of no fixed address, duped a 91-year-old man at his home in Sandfield Road, Shirley, by offering odd jobs. He struck three times during a week in July, stealing cash and a bank card on the final visit, which he used to spend just over £100 at a nearby shop. He was identified from CCTV and arrested after the victim's son reported the matter.

Alexander Blake and Ryan Blakeney barged into a 62-year-old Dorridge man's home on the evening of April 10, 2013, tied him up, threatened him with a knife and boiling water, mistakenly believing him to be a high-level drug dealer, demanded £50,000 then reduced to £10,000, pocketed a fake Rolex watch and £150, bundled the victim into his own car boot and drove to east Birmingham, leaving him stranded locked in the rear seats in Tyseley.

Raju Mollah, 50, argued with his wife over property a few days before the attack. On 12 January 2025, he returned home from work, heated up an unusual amount of oil in a frying pan, grabbed her hair and poured it over her. As she fell to the floor, he stamped on her, kicked her and pushed a mop into her face, causing severe burns across her face, neck, arms and hands. She also suffered a minor bleed to the brain, missing teeth, bleeding from the mouth, a swollen left eye, deep wounds to her face and head, and singed hair.
Found guilty of attempted murder. An indefinite restraining order was also granted. Lied to police claiming it was an accident and self-defence.

Reiss Johnson and Daniel Stirling violently assaulted a 61-year-old man outside the Olton Tavern on Lode Lane, Solihull, on the evening of Tuesday, April 14, 2015. The victim and his friend had just attended the victim's brother's funeral and asked the rowdy group, including Johnson and Stirling, to quieten down. The pair threw a banana skin and a shot glass before punching and kicking the victim as he lay on the ground.
Pleaded guilty to assault. Part of a group involved in the attack.
