David Bassett attacked his former partner in New Road, Attleborough, on November 13, 2020, at around 9.15am. The incident happened after she pulled up beside him while he was in his work van and an argument ensued. Bassett then got out of the van and repeatedly punched her in the face through the open car window. She managed to escape the vehicle, but Bassett continued his assault before driving off in her vehicle with their baby in the back. The woman suffered extensive bruising and swelling, as well as a cut above her eyebrow which required five stitches.
Found guilty during a trial last month. Pleaded not guilty.

Police were alerted by US Homeland Security after a victim’s boyfriend disclosed that Brennan had sent threatening messages and demanded indecent images of the victim. Investigations into Brennan’s Snapchat account identified further victims.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of indecent photographs of a child, two counts of sexual communication with a child, two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and distributing indecent photographs of a child. Issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register.

Between March 2020 and November 2020, Jack Lister created fake accounts on online dating apps to contact six women. He encouraged them to send money under false pretences, obtained intimate images or videos, and used them to blackmail victims for more money. He raped a 20-year-old woman in Thetford Forest after meeting on a dating app (reported 18 December 2020), and raped a 19-year-old woman in the same area in August 2020. His phone contained indecent images and extreme pornography. Arrested 4 August 2021.
Pleaded guilty to fraud, making and possessing indecent images and blackmail; found guilty by jury of rape and sexual assault.

Jack Smith, 36, of Hillen Road, South Lynn, sprayed an instant adhesive over the windows and door of a campervan before setting fire to it while a man was inside at a South Lynn address on December 9, 2025. He followed her, grabbed her roughly despite her protests, forced her to the floor, put his hand over her mouth, and assaulted her while she screamed for help around 20 times. She bit his hand, he fled, but was later arrested at a taxi rank after smiling and giving thumbs up to the victim. The offence occurred on July 20, 2016.
Admitted assault by penetration. No previous convictions. Fled abroad after initial arrest. Victim read impact statement. Subject to indefinite restraining order and placed on sex offenders register indefinitely. Faces deportation to Albania.

Florian Petrica Calin, 39, a Romanian man living in Sir Lewis Street, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, groomed and raped a 14-year-old girl on three occasions in 2019. Described by police as a determined and calculated abuser who systematically groomed and abused the victim, destroying trust around him for his own perverted needs.
Found guilty following a trial in October after denying all charges. Not guilty on three further charges of rape and one of making threats to kill. On April 3, 2021, officers seized crack cocaine, cash and a mobile phone from his car near Wortham Ling. On April 23, he was stopped in Great Barton with crack cocaine worth £100,000 to £350,000.

Benjamin Macann brought large amounts of cocaine into Norfolk between April 1, 2020, and January 15, 2021, using EncroChat with code names Wornfire and Tidyfly. He conspired to supply cocaine, negotiated prices, shared pictures of cocaine blocks, and collected large sums of money including £155,000. He fled the UK in September 2020, was arrested in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in June 2022 with a false passport and driving licence, and extradited on July 7, 2022.
Previously admitted to the supply of cocaine. Was on the run in Bulgaria for almost two years before arrest. Played a major role in an organised crime group.

Benjamin Merrifield, of Mousehold Avenue, off Gurney Road, Norwich, logged into an internet site and began chatting online in March 2021 with someone he believed to be a 12-year-old girl, who was actually an undercover police officer. The conversations quickly became sexualised; he asked for images of her and details of her underwear. He was made well aware of her purported age.
Admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child under 16 and two counts of attempting to incite a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity. Made subject of indefinite sexual harm prevention order and required to sign sex offenders register indefinitely. Eight prior convictions for 12 offences, none sexual. Suffered head injury five years ago from being shot by friend, leading to forgetfulness; history of cannabis use. Judge noted it was sheer good fortune no actual child was harmed.

The offences included 11 counts of indecent assault of a girl under 14, three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, three counts of assault of a girl under 13 by penetration, three counts of assault of a girl under 13 by touching, two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15, two counts of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15 and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court.
Found guilty after trial of 25 offences. Also issued with a 30-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Victim impact statements read in court.
Colin Richards

Life imprisonment with a minimum tariff of 20 years
Colin Richards, an armed robber, shot and killed PC Brian Bishop in Frinton-on-Sea, Essex, on 22 August 1984. Bishop, a police officer, was shot in the head while challenging Richards, who had hidden stolen money from post office raids. Bishop died five days later in hospital. Richards also shot and wounded Sergeant Mervyn Fairweather. He was arrested at the scene after another officer returned fire.
Found guilty of murder and wounding. Arrested at the scene after being shot by police; injuries resulted in paralysis from the waist down.

Michael Tucker

Life imprisonment with minimum term of 26 years
Michael Tucker, aged 50, was found guilty of murdering his 28-year-old girlfriend Rebecca Thorpe. In March 2010, at the Compasses Inn in Snettisham which the couple ran, Tucker shot Miss Thorpe. He then concealed her body in a freezer in an outbuilding behind the pub before fleeing to Sandown on the Isle of Wight, where he was eventually arrested. He denied murder and tried to claim he was guilty only of manslaughter.
Found guilty of murder following a six-day trial. The jury took just 45 minutes to convict. He had claimed manslaughter.
Neil Marston
Possessing and making indecent images of children *

Neil Marston hid a Lynx tablet computer behind a wardrobe during a police check on April 14 at his home on Quarry Lane, Lyng, Norwich, Norfolk, NR9. The device contained more than 100 indecent images of children and two videos of sexual content involving children. He admitted hiding the device on previous visits and claimed the images were not illegal.
Pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of a child and two counts of making indecent photos of a child. Breached life-long sexual harm prevention order. Assessed as high risk of reoffending. Judge Katharine Moore noted his longstanding sexual attraction to children and deceitful behaviour.
Paul Weekley

Paul Weekley, a 'very high risk' sex offender already on the sex offenders register for previous convictions for possessing indecent images of children, breached a court order by using hidden devices for secret online sex chats with a 12-year-old girl named Becca, who was an undercover officer. He engaged in sexual conversations, sent explicit live webcam images of himself and asked to visit her. He had moved to Salisbury Road, Great Yarmouth, without informing authorities. Arrested in March, nine indecent images of children were found on his devices.
Admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a 12-year-old, attempting to engage in sexual activity in front of a child, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, possession of indecent images and breaching sexual harm prevention order. Judge Andrew Shaw described him as a 'very high risk' and 'troubling individual'. Placed on sex offenders register for life.

Tony Wickstead, of Scott Road, Norwich, inflicted monstrous sexual abuse on three girls under 13 between 2016 and 2018. Convicted of six counts of rape against one child in a campaign of rape, causing or inciting sexual activity, and two counts of rape against two other children. One victim suffered physical harm including being handcuffed, dragged by hair, strangled, and feared for her life. Another required potential medical treatment for injuries.
Found guilty after trial of nine counts of serious sexual abuse. Dangerous offender posing high risk of serious harm to young children. Admitted possession of offensive weapon (stun gun). Placed on sex offenders register for life. Judge described offences as 'monstrous' and 'inhuman'.
Trevor Lee
Fraud by abuse of position *

Between 2017 and 2019, Trevor Lee, while working as treasurer for the Norfolk Rugby Union Referee Society (NRURS), merged the society’s funds with his personal accounts, wrote false cheques to inflate balances, and declared false balances at AGMs and to the Financial Conduct Authority, stealing £80,095. He also, as a director for Salire Ltd, sold company stock and had fraudulent invoices paid into his personal account, stealing £97,908. The frauds were discovered when the new NRURS chairman found the balance was only 65p instead of over £24,000, leading to investigations.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud by abuse of position. Admitted first offence was to finance gambling addiction and has made efforts to repay some money taken from NRURS.

Trevor Palmer, 52, of Tabernacle Lane, Forncett St Peter, was growing cannabis at his property. Detectives discovered energy usage five times that of a normal family home despite him living alone. It was estimated he had been cultivating cannabis for over two years, yielding plants worth approximately £70,000.

Trevor Sieley
Storing and disposing of waste without an environmental permit *

Trevor Sieley stored and burned waste illegally at a site in Outwell, near Downham Market, despite repeated warnings from the Environment Agency. The waste included agricultural vehicles and equipment from his former contracting business, scrap metal, plastics, metals, and hazardous items such as a vehicle engine and a television, burned in a specially constructed pit. He disposed of commercial waste for family and friends, saving them disposal costs. Environment Agency officers visited the site 7 times and issued a notice in September 2019 to clear it, but he continued. Offences took place between 29 July 2019 and 17 December 2019. Residential buildings and businesses were 200 metres away.
Pleaded guilty. Ordered to pay £140 victim surcharge and £10 for breaching a suspended sentence order. Prior environmental convictions and suspended sentence for permitting cannabis cultivation taken into account. Judge commented he thought criminal law did not apply to him.
Trevor Webb
Arranging to facilitate the sexual exploitation of a child *

Trevor Webb, 38, of Dobby Drive, King's Lynn, met the teenage victim online and arranged for her to be taken to hotels and other addresses in King's Lynn where she had sexual encounters with other men in exchange for money between February and April 2018. Some encounters went beyond what had been agreed. He also made an indecent image of a child between January and June 2018.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of arranging to facilitate the sexual exploitation of a child between February and April 2018, and making an indecent image of a child between January and June 2018. Judge accepted guilty pleas and noted delays due to research and pandemic but imposed custodial sentence. Also subject to restraining order preventing contact with victim and must sign on sex offenders' register for 10 years.

Shane Vertigan, a former traffic warden and police community support officer, sexually abused 13-year-old Wesley Spinks in 1992 and 1993. The abuse occurred after Vertigan entered the boy's bedroom wearing only underwear, in a van, and included taking the boy to a Norwich City match. The victim, now 41, read an emotional impact statement to the court.
Admitted three counts of gross indecency with a child under 14 and two counts of indecent assault on a boy under 14. Already serving a six-year sentence for previous sexual assaults. Judge Maureen Bacon noted the terrible abuse and its considerable impact on the victim.

Police found the phone after a tip-off during a search of his home.

Simon Price, 40, of The Fallows, Taverham, met a 13-year-old girl on a gaming platform in November 2019, lying about his age. Conversations moved to Instagram, became flirtatious and sexualised, exchanging images/videos and live streaming. After she blocked him, he contacted her elsewhere. In March 2020, he drove to the south coast, picked her up and sexually assaulted her in his car on the sea front. He encouraged her to self-harm. Offences discovered in May 2020 when her mother saw him live streaming her sleeping.
Previously admitted offence of an adult meeting a girl under 16 following grooming, two counts of sexual activity with a girl, engaging in sexual communication with a child, and making an indecent photo of a child. Indefinite sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) and sex offenders' register for life. Judge Andrew Shaw said Price posed a significant risk of serious harm. Mitigating: guilty pleas, multiple personality disorder, traumatic childhood.

Lee Patterson, 23, of no fixed address and already on the sex offenders' register for life, set up a secret Twitter account using an unknown email, posting two messages containing indecent material including a live-stream video, despite being subject to a sexual harm prevention order monitoring his internet use. This was discovered by a probation officer in December 2020. He also had access to an undeclared phone which he threw down a drain upon discovery. He had a previous 16-month jail sentence in March 2020 for a similar breach.
Admitted two offences of sending grossly offensive indecent matter by electronic communication and breaching his sexual harm prevention order and notification order. Judge Maureen Bacon noted he was a persistent offender unable to restrain himself despite court orders, showing deviousness by disposing of his phone.
Lee Peartree
Causing death by dangerous driving *

Lee Peartree, 34, of Appletree Lane, Diss, was driving a silver Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck on the A143 towards Diss, shortly after 8pm on October 1, 2023, when his car veered into the path of the black Ford S-Max of 40-year-old Jonathan Nyashanu, causing a head-on collision. Peartree was more than three times over the alcohol limit (120 micrograms), had cannabis in his system, and his driving was described as erratic by witnesses. Several empty bottles of alcohol and 4.98 grams of cannabis were found in his vehicle. Jonathan Nyashanu died at the scene; his two passengers suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries.
Pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and possession of a class B drug (cannabis) at an earlier hearing.

Marc Kane played a key role in a Gorleston cocaine enterprise as part of Operation Accent from March to August 2024. Police discovered 10 kilos of high-purity cocaine hidden in a house in John Road, Gorleston, worth £1 million street value. Kane fled and hid in a neighbouring garden shed before arrest. He used hire cars for drug transport and rural stash sites to avoid detection.

Mark Moulton, of Norwich Street, Dereham, was involved in drug supply activities in Diss. On May 13, 2020, while driving a Ford Focus on Victoria Road, he was stopped by police who recovered drugs, cash, and mobile phones from the vehicle, and more drugs and cash from his home address. Released under investigation, he was stopped again on June 12, 2020, on Stanley Road, Diss, where more drugs were found in the vehicle and at his home. Mobile phone data provided evidence of drug supply.
Pleaded guilty to five charges of being concerned in the supply of Class A and Class B drugs.

Luke Winder, 27, of Thorpe Road, Norwich, interacted with four online profiles which he believed were operated by young girls aged about 12 or 13 between 2016 and 2020. Two profiles were undercover police officers. He asked the profiles to send pictures of themselves and received a photo on at least one occasion. Some offending occurred when Winder was 21.
Pleaded guilty to attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity and three counts of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child. Judge Katharine Moore described behaviour as 'predatory' and 'corrupting'. Must sign on the sex offenders' register indefinitely. Sexual Harm Prevention Order adjourned to April 28.
Jordan Ellis
Attempting to incite a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity *

Jordan Ellis engaged in explicit online chats with girls he believed to be as young as 12 while working as a care assistant at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and a St John Ambulance volunteer. Police raided his home in Lawson Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk, and seized his laptop and phone, retrieving deleted data from chats with profiles stating they were children. In one chat, he asked a 15-year-old girl if he could see her 10-year-old sister.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of attempting to incite three separate children aged under 13 to engage in sexual activity, sending images of his body parts, two counts of attempting sexual communication with two children he believed were 14 and 15, and making and distributing indecent images of children. Also pleaded guilty to impersonating a police officer.

John Turner, a former teacher at Whitefriars school in King's Lynn, lay preacher, choirmaster and cub scout leader in West Winch during the 1970s and 1980s, indecently assaulted four boys over that period, committing nine indecent assaults and three counts of indecency with a child. Victims described lifelong mental impact and torment; one victim died after complaining to police.
Denied the offences but found guilty after trial of nine indecent assaults and three counts of indecency with a child. Judge Maureen Bacon noted his carefully constructed camouflage and deceitful persona as a teacher, lay preacher, choirmaster and cub scout leader enabled the abuse. Made subject of indefinite sexual harm prevention order, must sign sex offenders register indefinitely, and restraining orders prohibiting contact with victims.
Keiron Forde
Dangerous driving and failing to stop for police *

On the evening of July 9, Keiron Forde, aged 25 and of Orchard Close, Attleborough, drove a black Subaru Impreza in a dangerous manner in Norwich as part of anti-social driving. He failed to stop for police, reached 100mph in a 30mph zone, overtook another car on a traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing causing a member of the public to brake, drove through a red light at 88mph, overtook vehicles dangerously on the Norwich ring road, drove towards residential areas on the wrong side of the road, ignored a no entry sign and drove the wrong way on a one-way street. Police stopped following due to safety concerns. He was arrested at his home on July 10.
Pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to stop for police at an earlier hearing. Ordered to complete an extended driving test.
