Carl Horsnell, of Henniker Road, Ipswich, drove a silver BMW 318i from the Chantry area of Ipswich shortly before 07:22 on 11 December 2025. On Burrell Road, he collided with a female pedestrian, a serving Metropolitan Police officer named Tara, causing her a significant brain injury, fractured spine, and lower leg injuries from which she will never fully recover. Horsnell failed to stop, returned to Chantry just over an hour later, and was arrested after police found his damaged vehicle off Cambridge Drive around 09:00. He was over the alcohol limit at 74 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath (limit 35), exceeded the speed limit, ignored red lights, made dangerous overtaking and undertaking manoeuvres, and was on a video call. He had no insurance or valid licence.
Pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, failing to stop after a road accident, driving with excess alcohol, and refusing to provide a sample for a Class A drug test. Disqualified from driving for seven years. Denied assaulting a police officer; that charge was left to lie on file.

He assaulted four security staff members, including pushing one into a wall and causing another to fall and hit his head, leaving him lying lifeless in a pool of blood. A pair of glasses were also damaged.

On September 23, 2015, at about 10.30am, Samuel Crawley, 29, of Berkswell Close, Church Hill, stole £100.12 worth of tinned fish from B&M in Redditch by selecting the tins and walking out without paying. Shortly after, he stole £71.28 worth of groceries, including three trays of tinned salmon, from Lidl in Redditch, carrying them out without paying and placing them in his car. A staff member confronted him, but he refused to return. At 11am, officers saw him in Trafford Retail Park, breaching his Anti Social Behaviour Order and two suspended sentences for theft. All goods were recovered and sold by the shops. Crawley has an ongoing drug problem, previous custody terms, a five-month-old daughter, and has reduced his methadone prescription.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and breaching Anti Social Behaviour Order. Court activated 16 week suspended sentence in full. Ordered to pay £180 court charge and £80 victim surcharge. Chair of the bench noted long list of offending, particularly shoplifting, premeditated offending, and failure to comply with previous suspended order.

Scott Goodman, of Stanley Road in Worcester, stole two joints of beef worth £17 from the Co-operative store in Evesham on the morning of April 6. The store manager watched him on CCTV looking suspiciously towards the tills from the chiller section, confronted him on the shop floor, but Goodman ran towards the exit and jumped over the barrier. CCTV confirmed the theft; he was identified and arrested by police. This breached his existing 25-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months with Drug Rehabilitation Requirement, from offences on July 11 and June 13 the previous year.
Existing 25-week suspended sentence made more onerous by adding another 6-month Drug Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR). Admitted missing previous DRR appointments. Defence argued it would be unjust to activate the original sentence given only one minor offence in over a year.

Ryan Obrey, 20, of Goodrest Close in Worcester, visited Chris Holder’s house at 8am on September 3 after Holder allegedly stole £100 from Obrey’s aunt. Obrey confronted Holder’s mother, Gillian Holder, by banging on the front door and demanding to speak to her son about the money owed, before throwing a wheelie bin towards the window which smashed the frame causing hundreds of pounds in damage.
Was serving 12-month suspended sentence for previous offences including obstructing a train and three matters of common assault. Defence stated client had turned life around, distanced from drugs and bad influences, stable girlfriend, mended family rift. Magistrate John Taylor believed he had turned a corner.

He was pursued through gardens, rocks found in his pocket. Became aggressive, spat in the face of one constable during escort and another at the station. 20 rolls of Class B drugs (Benzocaine and Alpha PVP) seized from him in custody.
Pleaded guilty to two charges of assault on a constable, four charges of criminal damage to cars and possession of a Class B drug. Emotional issues led to heavy drinking on the night.

Terry Weise, 31, was stopped near Junction 7 on the M5 at 9.55pm on January 1, 2015, after police observed him travelling at excessive speeds. Officers smelled cannabis and found 130 grams in his boxer shorts, with a street value of £900-£1,350 (paid £467). He said he had moved to Wiltshire, knew no local suppliers, and travelled to the West Midlands to buy in bulk for personal use.
Ordered to pay £85 court costs and £60 victim surcharge. District Judge Nigel Cadbury noted the seriousness due to travelling a long distance to buy a large amount. Defence stated it was for personal use after moving to Wiltshire.

Thomas Osborne, of Shepherds Green in Droitwich, stole more than £2,000 worth of items during a shoplifting spree between May 16 and July 2. The 19 thefts occurred in Bromsgrove and Droitwich and included a Babyliss Super Crew Set, alcohol, a television, washing products, Lego boxes, and meat and grocery items. He was originally arrested on June 5 for three thefts but was released on bail and went on to commit the further 16 offences. Sentencing at Worcester Magistrates Court took place on July 11, 2014.
Committed the thefts to fund his heroin addiction. Defence solicitor stated he was motivated to tackle his drug abuse and had effectively 'gone cold turkey' while in custody. He also received a concurrent 14-day prison sentence for failing to surrender to custody at Worcester Magistrates Court on June 27.

She had asked him to delete the intimate images exchanged during the relationship. On August 8, after a missed call, she discovered the posts. When confronted at his home, he refused to remove them, spat in her face multiple times, then damaged her Audi car by scratching the door, kicking the window and bumper causing £1,000 damage.
Pleaded guilty to publishing explicit images with intent to cause distress and criminal damage. Sentenced to 16 weeks for the images and 4 weeks for damage. Ordered to pay £180 court charges and £100 victim surcharge. Judge described behaviour as despicable with aggravating features.

The co-defendant entered the bank claiming to be the victim, signed for the money, and handed it to an unknown woman outside. Robinson accepted £20 for his efforts.

Steven Richardson was charged with a criminal offence. His SIA licence was suspended but he failed to return it and continued working as an unlicensed security guard at a school for almost two months. He also failed to notify the SIA of his change of address. Richardson pleaded guilty on 19 January 2024 to the licence breaches and was sentenced on 26 January 2024.

Susan Smith, from Malvern, and Thomas Raymond stole nine boxes of 1Million perfume, valued at £494, from Debenhams on the High Street on June 9. At 4.25pm, a loss prevention officer noticed a large gap in stock. CCTV showed both pushing pushchairs and concealing products under the chairs. Police attended the store the next day, saw the pair with the same pushchairs on the High Street and arrested them. The perfume was sold on for between £20 and £30.
Pleaded guilty to theft but admitted stealing only one box. District Judge Nigel Cadbury: “I think that really it is not going to make any difference to sentence whether you were convicted of all the thefts or just the one box you took. You have been out of trouble for three years now so I don’t think it will make a difference.”
