On 19 April 2023, RSPCA inspectors attended Gregory Edward Baker's location in Rhydcymerau, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, where they found five horses and a foxhound in poor condition. The horses suffered from underweight bodies, skin diseases including rain scald, mud fever, and lice infestation, and one chestnut mare had lameness due to a discharging abscess, infected bone fragment, and bone infection leading to her euthanasia. The foxhound had paraphimosis with ulceration and fracture, resulting in its euthanasia. The animals were neglected by failing to provide adequate care, veterinary attention, or meet their needs. Three horses were transferred to RSPCA care and improved with proper nutrition; two went to a family member, one of which was euthanized.
Found guilty after a two-day trial on all five offences under the Animal Welfare Act. Sentences for individual offences run concurrently. No disqualification order imposed. In mitigation, no criticism since with any animals in his care.
