Michael Wade of Higher Melbury Farm, Yeo Vale in Bideford, caused two slurry pollution incidents in January 2023 and August 2024. Slurry discharged through a farm ditch into a tributary of Dipple Brook, travelling 1.6km in 2023, and into a tributary of Holebrook in 2024. Sewage fungus found in the water showed prolonged pollution. Over 300 fish, including salmonids and lamprey, died as a result. The Environment Agency used considerable resources and pumping equipment to remove the contaminated water.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of illegal water discharge. The farm previously paid £11,130 to the EA to cover costs of the pollution.

Spilled oil was also reported at a business address in Barnstaple. Ben Puig identified himself to the landowner and admitted dumping the waste. He removed the leaking barrels before officers arrived. Officers collected samples, and the refrigerators were cleared by the council. Oil barrels were found in his vehicle, which was seized under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Joshua Houston, 29, of Pilton Lawn, Barnstaple, was involved in an international cannabis importation plot, accepting packages from Thailand between November 2024 and February 2025. UK Border Agency seized a package sent to his address, and three more containing several kilograms were intercepted. Police arrested him at his flat where 371g of cocaine (street value £16,000) was found in a wardrobe along with thousands of pounds in cash. He also committed a burglary in Surrey in 2022, stealing an iPad and laptop from the home of a disabled man who was in bed at night.
Admitted being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of cannabis, possessing criminal property, possession with intent to supply cocaine, and burglary in Surrey in 2022. Role was to store drugs for financial reward. Described as immature but now a changed man with a more limited role in the scheme.

Joshua Nicholls, 30, was part of a cannabis dealing network that accepted packages of vacuum-packed weed from Thailand between November 2024 and February 2025. Police raided his flat in North Devon and found multiple bags and boxes of cannabis for posting, cannabis chocolate bars, envelopes, vapes, a cannabis plant, and more cash. Examination of his phone revealed a WhatsApp group for drug users and messages to a ringleader about importation and supply. He was actively marketing the cannabis products.
Admitted being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of cannabis and possessing criminal property. Father-of-two desperate for money, made a stupid mistake. Wants to cut hair after release and is currently the most sought after barber in Bristol Prison.
