Roxanna Bridgland, 56, treasurer of Cleethorpes Rescue Service, stole £24,500 from the charity between 2007 and 2012. She sold the charity's £13,000 lifeboat on eBay for £6,000, fraudulently claimed £6,500 in Gift Aid, and made 53 visits to Cash Converters to sell off charity property including mobile radios. She engineered the resignation of the former chairman to take over as treasurer and left the charity in crippling debt with unpaid bills, forcing its closure. The charity had been founded in 1969 following the deaths of three children on a Cleethorpes beach.
Pleaded guilty to five charges of fraud and three of false accounting. Defence cited her husband's deteriorating health from 2000, for whom she was a registered carer. The Charity Commission is assessing further regulatory action.

Robert Wattam was involved in the stabbing death of 29-year-old Jack Howes just after midnight on 20 March 2023 following a fight on Macaulay Way in Grimsby. The woman was shocked, scared, and anxious, later reporting reduced confidence walking alone.

Michael Billups, of Lilac Oval, Hillam, Leeds, LS25, subjected an East Riding schoolgirl to horrific sexual abuse over a two-month period around 2011. His campaign began by unzipping the girl's onesie to touch her before progressing to brutally raping her numerous times. The abuse was exposed years later when the victim confided in her boyfriend during an online quiz. Billups admitted the offences upon arrest in September 2018, expressing remorse.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and assault against a child. Judge Mark Bury condemned his crimes as gross. Five-year restraining order, must sign the sex offenders register for life and serve an extra year on extended licence.

Michael Wilson, of High Street, Bridlington, a 64-year-old man dressed in a school uniform including a wig, white shirt, blazer and Headlands School tie, approached two girls and squeezed one 14-year-old girl's bottom as he walked towards Headland School in Bridlington on the morning of January 8, 2019. He was seen by a member of staff in an out-of-bounds area near the school building. The staff member took a picture of him. Wilson was arrested on January 9, 2019, when police found a number of different school uniforms in a secret room hidden by a bookcase and a story written by him titled 'My Life As A 13-year-old Schoolboy'. An image of Wilson in uniform was shared among students.
Pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault. Must adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for seven years that prevents him from purchasing school uniforms. Must not go within 100m of the perimeter boundaries of any school or have any contact with children under 16 unrelated to him.

Michala Pyke was Poppy Widdison's mother. Poppy, aged four from Grimsby, suffered a cardiac arrest and died in her partner John Rytting's 'squalid' home surrounded by prescription and illicit drugs. Tests showed Poppy had been ingesting diazepam, heroin, methadone and ketamine for up to six months. Pyke had been feeding her daughter drugs including sedatives referred to as 'blue Smarties'. The pair considered Poppy an 'inconvenience'. Poppy was born addicted to heroin.
Described as an 'unfit mother'. Sentenced after the court heard she had been feeding her daughter drugs. Judge Jeremy Richardson QC told her and Rytting they both 'bear a huge responsibility for the death of a pretty and vivacious little girl' and commented: 'Poppy was born addicted to heroin... I don't think this is any accident and reveals your deplorable attitude towards an innocent infant.'
Neil Omer
Possession of indecent images of children *

Neil Omer took his white Lenovo laptop containing over a hundred indecent images of children, including category A images of penetrative sex of children aged 10 to 16 and prohibited cartoon-style images of children under 12, to Cash Express pawn shop in Holderness Road, Hull, on March 10, 2018. The manager discovered the images in folders labelled 'boys' and 'girls' on April 12, 2018, after the 28-day hold period expired, and reported to police. Images and videos were found on all four of his devices, spanning two years of viewing and internet searches. He claimed access via Tumblr believing only lawful images were there.
Full credit for pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity. Sexual harm prevention order and 30 day drug rehabilitation programme also imposed. Past convictions for dishonesty but none since 1985. Low risk of re-offending.

Shane Jessop undressed and raped a drunken and sleepy teenage girl after she passed out on a sofa at a party in Hull in September 2021. He had bought alcoholic drinks for the gathering. He carried her upstairs to a bedroom, removed her clothes, kissed her, and raped her for three to five minutes until he heard someone nearby. The victim suffered severe anxiety, flashbacks, and emotional distress.
Pleaded guilty to rape and sexual assault. No previous convictions. Given indefinite sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender for life. Judge noted victim was particularly vulnerable and incapable of consenting.

Police identified him via CCTV at a supermarket buying top-up for a drugs line mobile phone. A search of his home found three mobile phones, £250 cash and lighters with the drugs line number on them. He had prior convictions for possessing cocaine with intent to supply, supplying cocaine, and being concerned in supplying heroin and cocaine.
Admitted being concerned in supplying cocaine. Had six previous convictions, mostly for drugs offences. Mitigating factors included debt, attack, positive character references and two children. £250 cash forfeited to charity.
Steven Mckenna

Steven McKenna, 32, of no fixed address, followed a woman out of the Apollo nightclub in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, after seeing her struggling to stand and appearing semi-conscious due to alcohol (two-and-a-half times over the legal drink-drive limit). He raped and sexually assaulted her in an isolated harbour area in the early hours last summer. When she called police, he spat at her twice and licked her legs. Parts of the incident caught on CCTV. Officers found her crying with frothy spittle in her hair.
Convicted by jury after denying wrongdoing. Ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely. 60 previous offences including indecent assault on a female under 14. Judge Recorder Abdul Iqbal QC described offences as shameless and cruel against a vulnerable victim.
Thomas Mcmahon
Smuggling prohibited drugs into prison *

On June 22, 2025, while visiting his son Joseph Peers at Full Sutton high-security prison, Thomas McMahon hid 14 white oval-shaped painkiller tablets in a crisp packet. He then slid the packet across the table, rotating identical packets to avoid detection. Prison staff and CCTV observed the act. McMahon claimed the tablets were to help his son's back and knee pain. He was arrested and admitted the offence.
Pleaded guilty to smuggling prohibited painkillers into Full Sutton Prison. Previous convictions for drug-driving. Recorder Taryn Turner said it was serious offending in a custodial environment.

Forced a 15-year-old to have sex multiple times daily, threatened violence, held pillow over her face during sex, threatened acid attack. Strangled pregnant 16-year-old until dizzy. Headbutted 20-year-old partner. Intimidated witness with threats to kill, knife emoji, multiple calls.

Diane Wade

Diane Wade targeted five boys aged between seven and 17 between December 2010 and December 2018, masquerading as involvement in harmless horseplay. Caused physical pain and long-term psychological harm including worries over fertility and trust issues.

On September 9, police stopped a car in Beverley Road, Hull, at about 11am and found Harvey Fox, who gave a false name 'Harvey Smith' but was identified via social media on his phone. He was wanted on a warrant and admitted having Class A drugs. A search revealed 31.6g of cocaine (92% purity) in his trouser pocket, worth £2,260, plus two small rocks (one 83% purity, worth £800) and £225 cash. A home search found drugs equipment, a sword on a settee, and a knuckleduster in a shoe box under a coffee table. Fox claimed the weapons were legal to possess.
Admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply and possessing a sword and knuckle duster as offensive weapons. Wrote a letter expressing remorse and vowing to change after seeing 'bad things' in prison. Gerald Kelly, a wheelchair user, caused a disturbance at Caffe Nero coffee shop in St Stephen's shopping centre, Hull, on an evening when he demanded free drinks, became abusive and shouted obscenities at staff including 'Nazi' and 'c***' after being refused. Despite being previously banned, he threatened and assaulted security staff, hitting them with his arms and wheelchair, spat at them, and sexually assaulted a woman by goosing her intimately, putting his arm around her, and saying 'I will f*** you. It's been a while since I had a girl.' He was restrained, taken to the ground, and arrested at Clough Road police station.
Admitted sexual assault and three offences of assault on December 21. Has 172 previous convictions since 1980, including sexual assault and assaults. Ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years. Judge Mark Bury noted his behaviour was intolerable and the sexual assault grossly unpleasant.
Glenn Overton-Wilkinson

Between May 2016 and November 2019, Glenn Overton-Wilkinson, of Waterside Road, Beverley, manipulated a young vulnerable girl into allowing him to take highly intrusive indecent pictures of her intimate areas using a tiny probing camera with a hot light that burned her. He pretended the images were for a doctor to help other girls with body problems. He had an obsession with her, made threats, and possessed about 3,000 indecent images of other children. Discovered when police investigated child pornography access.
Admitted assault by penetration, causing a girl to allow him to take indecent photographs of her and possessing indecent images of children. Previous conviction for possessing indecent images. Indefinite sexual harm prevention order imposed. Judge noted entrenched deviant sexual interest in children and manipulation of vulnerable victim.
Jordan Robinson

In the early hours of August last year, Robinson and two others broke into a home in Hull after Robinson pretended to be a police officer at the door. Wearing a balaclava and armed with a hammer, Robinson attacked a man inside, leaving him with a shoulder injury after launching at the man with a hammer, just missing his head. He also damaged the home during the incident. An electric bike was stolen before the group fled. Robinson’s balaclava fell during the incident, allowing the victim to identify him.

He was caught with the girl in a caravan at business premises in Holderness, where the mother discovered them together. The victim suffered flashbacks, horrendous depression, emotional and psychological harm, impacting her life, relationships, and ability to sleep or concentrate.
Denied six offences of indecency with a child but convicted by jury on majority verdicts of 11 to one. Cleared of two other similar offences and two of indecent assault. No previous convictions. Assessed as low risk of reoffending. Given indefinite sexual harm prevention order and must register as sex offender for life.

Jeffrey Birkett, a computer support technician of The Oval, Pocklington, was found with two Category C indecent images of children, 10 extreme pornography bestiality images and 40 videos following an investigation by the National Crime Agency after intercepting extremely disturbing online messages traced to his home. The offences occurred around August 21, 2020, during lockdown when he became isolated.
Pleaded guilty. No previous convictions. Given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender for 10 years. Judge Michael Slater warned him that breaching the order would likely result in immediate imprisonment.
Joseph Toft

On 30 July 2022, Joseph Toft, heavily intoxicated, deliberately targeted and grabbed a young girl, repeatedly touching her intimately for about a minute or two, squeezing her thigh and moving his hand up, saying 'Oh, I like that!' while smiling. The girl told him to stop, felt scared and shocked, moved away, and later reported it to her mother and police, stating it profoundly affected her confidence, trust in people, and daily life.

Between 2015 and 2016, while serving in the military stationed in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, Josh Boynton-Eckles, then around 20 years old, contacted underage girls aged 12 to 17 online worldwide via various apps. He sent them naked pictures of himself, images of bondage equipment, and cartoons depicting adults spanking, while encouraging them to send naked pictures, discussing sexual acts, kissing, touching, taking virginity, and meeting for sex. He exploited their vulnerabilities and doubts about appearance. He also used another woman's identity on the Whisper app to pose as her and obtain naked pictures from gay or bisexual women, exchanging her images. Police found 59 category C indecent images of children on his phone. Offending came to light after mothers of two victims reported it.
Pleaded guilty to five counts of causing or inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity, one count of fraud, one count of making an indecent photograph of a child and distributing a photograph of a child. Ordered to complete 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement, take part in the Horizon programme, registered sex offender for 10 years, and Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years. Judge noted behaviour was 'the stuff of parents nightmares' but suspended sentence by a fine margin due to no further trouble, psychological factors and no contact offences.

Kevin Shaw, a retired geography teacher, indecently assaulted a schoolboy more than 25 years ago at Bransholme High School (later Winifred Holtby secondary) in Hull. He spanked the teenager with a sand shoe on his bare buttocks in a locked store room, claiming it was discipline for bad behaviour. The boy chose corporal punishment over parental notification, was made to bend over, struck forcefully twice on clothed buttocks, then removed clothing for fewer strikes, falling in pain after further blows. Shaw deliberately hit hard initially to induce clothing removal.
Denied wrongdoing but convicted by jury following trial. Judge John Thackray QC stated the assault was sexually motivated and not discipline. Prior complaints from other ex-pupils noted but no further charges.
Khairul Ehsan

On June 22, 2019, Khairul Ehsan, a taxi driver, picked up a 24-year-old woman from a takeaway in Paragon Square, Hull, after a night out. He drove the long way to her address, refused to stop at a cash machine, then put his arm around her, tried to kiss her, got on top of her, and grabbed her breasts despite her saying no. She managed to escape the minivan taxi.
Found guilty of attempted sexual assault after denying the charge. Three further alleged incidents of similar behaviour towards female passengers came to light but no charges brought.
Lewis Rudd

Lewis Rudd, 36, from Birkall Road, Thorntree, Middlesbrough, strangled his partner into unconsciousness, punched her, and stamped on her during an argument at Thornwick Bay holiday village at Flamborough, near Bridlington, North Yorkshire, on October 31, 2022. The couple were on a make-or-break caravan holiday after a night out. Rudd became angry when she made crumpets for herself before his cheese on toast while holding a bread knife, leading to a row. He stormed into the bedroom, dragged her from bed, pinned her down, strangled her despite her pleas of 'I can't breathe', and she lost consciousness seeing his foot. She escaped via bathroom window, suffered injuries including head cut, neck abrasion, chest and spine tenderness, and was hospitalised. Rudd fled but was arrested.
Denied charges of intentional strangulation and assault causing actual bodily harm but found guilty by jury after trial. Recorder Nick Worsley KC noted the victim believed she was going to die and that Rudd told lies to the jury. Indefinite restraining order imposed. Separately admitted drink driving and received a driving ban.

Liam Betts, 24, of Cavendish Road, Hull, sexually assaulted a woman in a bar in Hull as she exited the toilets. He grabbed her forcefully from behind, causing pain. He fled the scene with friends but later presented himself to police after a CCTV appeal. The victim described the incident as a horror that left her confused, humiliated and a shell, suffering severe psychological harm. Betts works in construction and plays rugby.

He damaged property and prevented her from going out alone. The victim fled the home in terror on one occasion. Labourne had eight previous convictions.

Logan Preston, 23, of Agar Crescent, Howden, confronted and punched a 69-year-old man using a walking frame on Station Road in Howden at about 11.15pm on June 21 2025. The victim fell, banged his head and was left unconscious with bleeding on the brain and a broken jaw. He later required 24-hour care in a home. Preston had been drinking and acted after his girlfriend mentioned stalking allegations involving the victim.
Admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm. No previous convictions. Attacked vulnerable OAP with walking frame after drinking.
Luke Alder

Luke Alder, of Eastgate, Goole, engaged in graphic and explicit online conversations about sex with a decoy profile pretending to be a 12-year-old girl on a children's chat account between August 14 and 21, 2020. He asked intimate questions, requested nude photos, suggested sexual acts, and discussed pregnancy. Arrested on September 15, 2021, police found 19 Category A indecent images and two videos, 18 Category B images, eight Category C images, and 38 prohibited images of children as young as two on his computer equipment. Some images showed children in pain or distress.

On October 24, officers searched a Brigg shop linked to associates of Dale's girlfriend and found a metal box containing four 1kg blocks of cocaine, four smaller blocks of cocaine, and 391 pink Ecstasy tablets. Dale's fingerprint was on a plastic bag wrapping one cocaine block. A video showed a hand with tattoos matching Dale's, including 'Ashley' on his right hand, holding a block of cocaine. £10,325 cash was found concealed behind a fireplace at a linked property, along with snapbags and scales. Dale was arrested with a suitcase ready for Stansted Airport and later attempted to fraudulently obtain a replacement passport after his original was seized, breaching bail. Additional £1,180 cash found at his home.
Pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to supply, fraud relating to fraudulent passport application, possessing Ecstasy with intent to supply, and being involved in supplying cocaine. Previously convicted of five offences including producing cannabis. Held on remand for five months and 15 days.
Arthur Hodgson

Arthur Hodgson tried to shoot his neighbour Lee Harker twice in February 2021 on Main Street, Great Hatfield, HU11, after Harker discovered Hodgson's previous conviction for sexually assaulting young girls in 2017. Hodgson, a former East Riding of Yorkshire councillor who represented South East Holderness ward until 2016, had moved to the area after his release from jail for a quiet life but fell into disrepute when neighbours learned of his past. He decided to take the law into his own hands. Harker heard sounds like a BB gun but did not see the shooter and feared for his and his daughter's life.
Pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence. Judge Peter Kelson QC noted he had taken exception to people learning about his previous sex offences and caused serious psychological harm to victim.
Anthony Press
Breaching sexual harm prevention order *

Anthony Press, of Wentworth Way, Hull, started searching for indecent images of children within a month of receiving an 18-month suspended prison sentence in March 2019 for attempting to communicate sexually with a decoy 12-year-old girl. He deleted his internet search history to cover up searches such as 'teen brunette f****d' on April 2, 2019, breaching a court order. Further checks on January 31, 2020, showed settings to erase data. He also failed to update his sex offender registration by 10 days in September 2020.
Admitted breaching a sexual harm prevention order and failing to register his details as a sex offender. Sentence included a consecutive four months after part of the original suspended sentence was activated. Judge noted it was a deliberate breach of a golden opportunity to rehabilitate.

Alistair Tough, of Spring Road, Market Weighton, exchanged sexually-charged messages with a fake 13-year-old girl decoy set up by paedophile hunters on Facebook between November 17 and December 9, 2020. He acknowledged the risks, asking for pictures of her in pyjamas, underwear, school uniform, and to watch her in the shower. He failed to register his details as a sex offender on January 3, 2021, despite a 10-year requirement from prior offences.
Pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child between November 17 and December 9, 2020, and failing to register as a sex offender on January 3, 2021. Prior one-year suspended sentence in March 2019 for making indecent images of children. Judge noted he ignored a 'golden opportunity' to address his issues and that only immediate custody was justified. Must register as a sex offender for 10 years. Poor health including heart attacks and awaiting transplant.

Andrew Pennington, aged 62, entered a woman's home in Beverley, East Yorkshire, through an unlocked back door in July 1998. He violently assaulted her on the hallway floor, threatened to rape and kill her, and began pulling off her trousers before being interrupted by the victim's lodger and fleeing. The attack was linked to him via DNA evidence from a cold case review. He had previously served a 10-year sentence for raping another woman in York in 1988.
Admitted attempted rape, indecent assault, burglary and theft, and burglary with intent to steal. Previously jailed for 10 years in 2018 for a 1988 rape. Victim read impact statement in court. Judge John Thackray KC commended victim's bravery.
Bailey Clark

Bailey Clark, 21, of Newland Avenue, west Hull, admitted possessing 130g of cocaine and a quantity of ketamine with intent to supply on March 14, along with cannabis and two Pregabalin tablets. The whole pack weighed about 1kg, mostly ketamine. He was arrested following an altercation and searched. Clark had been homeless at age 18, sleeping on Hull streets, approached by drug dealers offered cannabis, then forced to deal drugs to pay off debt. In lead-up to arrest, assaulted with fingers broken and threats made to hurt his family.
Pleaded guilty at first opportunity. No previous convictions. Now living with family and working full-time. Judge John Thackray KC noted substantial progress, potential for rehabilitation and risk manageable in the community. Ordered to pay £187 victims' surcharge. Drugs paraphernalia forfeited. Warned of activation if breach occurs.
Aurimas Turcinavicius

Aurimas Turcinavicius groomed and kissed a 14-year-old girl in a sexual way (French kissing) on two occasions: between August 17 and 27, and between October 26 and 29. He ignored a police warning after concerns about their relationship. Pictures of them kissing, including one in bed together, were found on her phone. The girl sought shelter at his home after a row at hers.
Admitted two offences of sexual activity with a child. Given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender for 10 years. Latvian national with prior conviction for criminal damage.
Carol Williams

Carol Williams, a heavy drinker consuming a bottle of vodka daily, repeatedly became aggressive and violent at Hull Royal Infirmary after being asked to leave, assaulting security guards and police officers by kicking them on shins and thighs, threatening to smash heads and slit a face with a key on March 26, 2025; hit a security guard at Tesco Express in King Edward Street, Hull on May 28, 2025, then assaulted police; kicked security on June 16, 2025; racially abused staff and kicked police on August 10, 2025.
Convicted in absence by Beverley Magistrates Court of two offences of assaulting emergency workers on March 26, 2025. Admitted two similar offences and another of assault on May 28, 2025, assault on June 16, 2025, assaulting an emergency worker and racially aggravated threatening behaviour on August 10, 2025. 33 prior convictions including assaults, harassment, shop theft. Mitigating factors included medical difficulties, bereavements of two husbands and a son, and time spent in custody since February 24, 2026, and previously between June 18 and July 21, 2025.

On December 3, 2019, Connor Farren, then 21 and of Queen Street, Withernsea, East Riding of Yorkshire, knocked on the back door of a vulnerable woman's home in Withernsea after midnight, having previously stolen beer and interfered with a vehicle. He offered to 'show her a good time', touched her breasts over her pyjamas, threatened to steal property, banged on the front door, entered, and stroked her leg before leaving after she threatened to scream. The victim suffered flashbacks and nightmares. Farren also admitted later burglary and thefts.
Convicted in absence by jury on majority verdict for sexual assault. Admitted theft, burglary, interfering with a vehicle, and failing to surrender to bail. Ordered to register as a sex offender for 7 years and given a 2-year restraining order. Mitigating: alcohol and drug addiction, panic during trial.

Daniel Tranmer, 40, from Hull, sexually abused four vulnerable children over a number of years by exploiting and abusing vulnerable and impressionable young girls. He was a manipulative sexual predator.
Found guilty of ten counts of sexual touching against a child under 13 following a nine-day trial which concluded in March. Ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.
Daniel White

Daniel White, of Jenthorpe, Orchard Park estate, Hull, possessed 3,370 images and videos of child pornography (1,314 Category A including 629 videos, 1,021 Category B including 125 videos, 1,036 Category C including 66 videos) showing extremely young girls aged 6-14, and 280 images of extreme pornography showing bestiality (one video), between 2015 and 2020. He uploaded images via Twitter, linked to a mobile phone, and engaged in online sexual conversations including asking a woman if she had done anything sexual to her daughter after she sent a picture.
Admitted making and distributing indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornography. Given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. Mobile phone, laptop and tablet forfeited. Judge noted it was not a victimless crime and required immediate custody.
