His vehicle collided with a Volkswagen T-Roc driven by Susan Whittles, 70, of Bridlington, who was returning from a Christmas shopping trip to York with her husband William. The impact caused the T-Roc to roll over, resulting in Susan's immediate death and serious injuries to William, including fractured ankle, wrist, ribs, and compressed vertebrae. Kusemi, a Nigerian national on a work-sponsorship scheme since 2022, was entitled to drive for 12 months but had not passed his practical driving test after two failures, despite passing the theory test.

He possessed 114 Category A images and 209 videos, 54 Category B images and 86 videos, 356 Category C images and 42 videos, 21 prohibited images and one movie of children, and 11 extreme pornography images and 16 videos of bestiality. He engaged in grooming by exchanging highly sexualised messages and sending images/videos with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl, expressing desire for sexual contact. Additional conversations with real girls aged 11, 13, and 14 were found but not charged. He boasted online that young girls 'turn me on so much' and participated in a chatroom called 'School girls ready to love.' Arrested on July 14, 2023, after police seized devices from his home. Offences linked to past drug addiction, from which he is now recovered; works as a joiner.
Pleaded guilty. No previous convictions. Completed rehabilitation course and made considerable progress. Judge noted offences too serious for community order. Given 10-year sexual harm prevention order and must register as sex offender for 10 years.

Matthew Hutchinson, 24, of Norwood, Beverley, was caught by police at about 12.30am on August 4, 2023, dealing drugs on the street. He fell off his bicycle during detention and admitted to having loads of cannabis in his rucksack, which contained 75g of cannabis, scales, and a grinder. Two small bags of cocaine (7.4g total) were found in his wallet. A search of his home revealed a safe with 22 bags of cocaine, two packets of cannabis seeds, and literature including 'Cannabis Growing Bible'. Messages on his phone indicated ongoing street dealing. Total street value was £1,435. He acted as a runner to fund his cocaine addiction.
No previous convictions. Pleaded guilty at first opportunity. Offending stemmed from cocaine addiction, spending £120 a day. Has not used drugs for four months and shown insight into his actions.

A previous trial was stopped on June 11 due to problems, but he was convicted in the retrial.

Samuel De Vere-Hunt was a drug kingpin responsible for laundering over £6 million in cash and supplying hundreds of kilos of MDMA, ketamine, and cannabis destined for London. Between March 2020 and June 2020, he was involved in moving £3.5 million in cash and deals of cannabis and ketamine. From September 2024 to January 2025, he moved a further £2.8 million in cash and supplied over a quarter of a tonne of ketamine and cannabis, with a street value of £6 million. On 9 January 2025, officers searched his address in Kelvedon Hatch, Essex, finding 15kg of ketamine, 12kg of cannabis, over 6kg of Class A drugs (MDMA and 2C-B), and more than £179,000 in cash. He was arrested as he left with £160,000 in criminal cash. The couple lived an extravagant lifestyle including luxury holidays and designer items despite his unemployment.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to conceal criminal property, two counts of being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs, three counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, four counts of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs, and possession of criminal property.

They lived an extravagant lifestyle including luxury holidays in Portugal, Ibiza, Los Angeles, and Mykonos, and owning designer items such as a Rolex watch, despite her employment as a receptionist earning £13 an hour. The address in Kelvedon Hatch, Essex, was tracked through phone data and food deliveries. On 9 January 2025, the search uncovered drugs and cash at the property where she resided with De Vere-Hunt.
Initially pleaded not guilty to being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and possessing criminal property, but changed plea to guilty after further evidence from her phone.

He had bought the vehicle about a month earlier and was aware of his driving ban imposed on February 27, 2025, for two years. The false document was used to falsely indicate a right to drive in the UK.

Jack Silvester, 20, of Saxcourt, Orchard Park estate, north Hull, was heavily involved in a significant heroin and crack cocaine supply operation. Police spotted him speaking to suspected drug users and later searched a house in Dunswell Street where he was found with Sara Holmes. He attempted to flee but was apprehended. Officers discovered 7.58g of heroin in 70 wraps, 8.04g of crack cocaine in 40 wraps, digital weighing scales, cannabis, a handwritten drug supply list, and £1,170 cash on him. Crack cocaine was also found on Holmes. Text messages showed Silvester directing the supply. The incident leading to the search occurred on May 28.
Convicted after trial of being concerned in supplying heroin and crack cocaine and possessing cash as criminal property. Admitted possessing Pregabalin. No previous drug supply convictions but had nine prior offences including burglary, theft and criminal damage. Used drugs like Pregabalin, ketamine and nitrous oxide for self-medication, leading to bravado. Remanded in custody for a significant period.

Police observed her at the junction of 12th Avenue passing something to suspected drug users. A search of her house in Dunswell Street on May 28 revealed her and Jack Silvester, along with 7.58g of heroin in 70 wraps, 8.04g of crack cocaine in 40 wraps (some on her person), digital weighing scales, cannabis, and a drug supply list. Her house was used as a base for the operation.
Admitted being concerned in offering to supply heroin and supplying crack cocaine. Acted as a runner paid in drugs, with no influence higher up the chain. 33 prior convictions including burglary, theft and handling stolen goods; previously jailed for 3.5 years in 2014 and in 2012 for burglary. Remanded in custody for just under 8 months.
David Bayliss

This caused the victim's overalls to catch fire, resulting in second-degree burns to his chest, upper body, hands, and arms. The flames fused his clothing to his skin, requiring immediate submersion in water, hospital admission to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield from January 15-20, 2021, skin graft surgery, antibiotics for infections, and ongoing psychological treatment for trauma, anxiety, and flashbacks. The victim has been unable to work since and suffers from scarring and discomfort.
Pleaded guilty at earliest opportunity. No prior convictions but had a 2016 reprimand. Act described as utter stupidity and horseplay gone wrong with high victim empathy shown.
James Freeman

James Freeman, 27, from Hull, engaged in a series of violent acts against his girlfriend starting from September 2024. Between 5 and 19 May 2025, while intoxicated on vodka and codeine, he stabbed and slashed her right thigh with a knife, carving his initials into her leg, causing deep incisions with visible fatty tissue hanging out. He appeared pleased with himself and demanded kisses and cuddles afterwards, preventing her from seeking immediate medical help, which resulted in a permanent scar. On 24 May 2025, he extinguished a cigarette on her right hand and leg for 10 seconds, finding it funny, and warned her about his 'dark side'. Between 1 and 31 December 2024, he suffocated her by pinning her down on a sofa for 10-15 minutes with his 24-25 stone weight, making her struggle to breathe. In another incident after a night out at Spiders nightclub in Hull, he drove his vehicle at her twice, nearly hitting her while shouting abuse.
Pleaded guilty. No prior convictions. Issued with a five-year restraining order. Described as a master manipulator and sociopath by victim's grandfather.
Lee Ross
Possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply *

Lee Ross, 45, of Morpeth Street, off Spring Bank, Hull, was spotted by police making hand-to-hand drug exchanges with users in the Wellington Lane and Hudson Street area, off Beverley Road, Hull, on November 13. He cycled to a house in Morpeth Street, Spring Bank, where he was intercepted and knocked to the ground. A tub containing a large number of heroin and cocaine wraps valued at £575 was found, along with £83.65 cash. Another wrap was found while in custody. Ross had fled to Hull from Leeds to escape drug issues but accumulated a debt, leading him to deal crack cocaine to pay it off and stay out of harm's way. He had 41 prior convictions, including five for drug possession.
Pleaded guilty. First conviction for supplying drugs. Remorseful and assisted police by identifying the drugs. Had been in custody since November 15. £108.65 cash forfeited.

Due to his aggressive and argumentative behaviour, staff asked him to leave. While being escorted to the car park, he threatened the staff member, punched him four times in the face knocking him to the ground, and bit him on the cheek. He was pulled away by another staff member. The victim required hospital treatment including a scan, wound dressing, and antibiotics, and reported significant emotional distress.
Pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm. Five-year restraining order imposed. Must pay £187 victims' surcharge. Judge noted failure to control temper and history of violence.
Charlie Holmes

Charlie Holmes, 31, of Melrose Street, Hull, persistently harassed and exploited a vulnerable teenage girl with unwanted sexual advances. She confessed her feelings, kissed the girl on the lips, pursued her insisting on a relationship, provided her with cannabis joints on two occasions at Hessle foreshore where she also held her hand and left a love bite on her neck, and forcefully kissed and inappropriately touched her against a wall in a park in Hull. The incidents caused the victim significant trauma, including nightmares, depression, anxiety, and difficulties with romantic relationships. Holmes continued messaging the girl after her arrest on bail. The inappropriate relationship began following Holmes' personal issues from a relationship breakdown.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of supplying cannabis to the minor. No prior convictions. Issued with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite restraining order. Required to register as a sex offender indefinitely. Judge Tahir Khan KC stated immediate custody was inevitable.

The victim sought medical treatment at Hull Royal Infirmary, including a CT scan, and suffered post-concussion syndrome.
Pleaded guilty on the day of a scheduled trial. No previous convictions. Judge Tahir Khan KC warned her to be of good behaviour for the next 12 months. 18-month restraining order imposed.

An investigation launched in April 2025 after police were called to his address for an unconnected incident uncovered controlled substances in plain view, leading to his arrest. Further searches revealed a large quantity of hidden drugs, a large amount of cash, bank cards in his name and alias, a memory card, and a phone. Digital forensics on the phone confirmed the extent of his drug distribution enterprise.

James Burton, a 25-year-old drug addict from Melrose Street, west Hull, set fire to a woman's dressing gown out of revenge after believing he had been 'ripped off' and that she was taking drugs without him. On August 8, 2025, in a shared house with multiple occupants, Burton shouted and banged on the woman's door. He then went upstairs, set the dressing gown alight inside the flat, and left it burning outside her room door, producing two-foot-high flames. Neighbours quickly extinguished the fire by stamping on it. Burton was seen laughing nearby. He was arrested on August 14 and admitted the act to 'show her' who was boss. The incident endangered lives due to the recklessness in a shared occupancy building.
Pleaded guilty at first opportunity. Drug addiction to cannabis and crack cocaine. Prior convictions for possessing heroin, cocaine and cannabis. Acted out of revenge and frustration in shared accommodation.
