He approached her while she lay in the doorway of a city centre shop, enticed her back with promises of warmth and shelter, handcuffed her, used a variety of sex toys and outfits bought from Amazon, humiliated and degraded her, took photos and videos, and threatened her with a machete while wearing a full face mask. She was found afterwards walking in circles and crying. Videos discovered by police after arrest.
Pleaded guilty to rape and sexual assault. No previous convictions. Judge Nirmal Shant QC described the case as extreme humiliation and degradation over three hours. On sex offender register for life.
Michael Booth

Michael Booth committed a series of offences between March and December of the previous year. On August 26, he stole two mountain bikes from properties in Moult Avenue, Spondon. On December 5, he robbed a man of his e-scooter in Waterford Drive, Chaddesden. He also handled stolen property including bikes, an electric scooter, an Xbox controller and fishing equipment. After evading capture for months, a public appeal offering a £1,000 reward led to his arrest. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Derby Crown Court.

Jamille Marsh, along with Benjamin Hughes and later Antonio Olivieri, carried out armed robberies using stolen shotguns across Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire between August 2019 and January 2020. They stole shotguns from Twinlakes Theme Park near Melton Mowbray after tying up and threatening a security guard, starting a fire causing £2m damage. They robbed post offices including Stretton, Overseal, Cheadle, Hollington; a Domino’s pizza shop in Hilton; pubs like Bonnie Prince in Chellaston and Tap House in Annwell; and homes including an elderly widow's flat in Rolleston on Dove and premises in Hixon. In Stretton, they hit the postmaster with a crowbar, fired a shotgun into a wall, tied up the family and threatened him.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, one count of false imprisonment and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Sentence reduced from 24 years following guilty plea.

Also convicted of sexually assaulting and attempting to rape two further victims.

Jason Paulucci, a 53-year-old accountant from Derbyshire, was sentenced for possessing indecent images of children. The offences involved five category A, one category B, and 35 category C images accessed on 25 January 2025 at an address on Searston Avenue, Holmewood. He initially pleaded not guilty but changed his plea to guilty on 3 October 2025 at Derby Crown Court. He was already serving a sentence of two years and ten months for defrauding his former employer, Oxdale Products Ltd, in 2018. The new six-month term runs consecutively to his existing sentence. Derbyshire Constabulary investigated the case.

Jason Sedgwick committed a string of sexual assaults on three women in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, within eight months. In the final attack on July 6, 2014, he raped a woman after she left a nightclub, ripping off her clothes, choking her, forcing her to play dead to survive. He stalked a second victim to her home, entering uninvited and sexually assaulting her while her mother and son slept upstairs. He groped a third woman in the street, putting his hand down her top. He loitered outside pubs and clubs targeting vulnerable, intoxicated lone females.
Pleaded guilty to rape on first day of trial in March. Jury found him guilty of two sexual assaults. Judge John Burgess described him as a danger to women and the offences as planned, purposeful and predatory. On licence until 2036 and sex offenders' register for life.

Jason Yeomans, released halfway through a 10-year sentence for previous child sex offences in September 2021, began messaging decoy profiles posing as girls aged nine and 14 on October 19, asking about underwear and sexual experiences, and arranged to meet one in Burton. He was reported to Derbyshire police by online vigilantes and arrested. Messages found on his phone from October 19 to November 1. Originally from Alfreton, Derbyshire.
Pleaded guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. Judge Shaun Smith QC assessed him as posing a high risk to children under 16. Lifetime sexual harm prevention order and sex offender register for life. Recalled on previous licence; not eligible for release until 2026 at earliest.
Jack Locke

At about 4am on 2 July 2023 outside The Association nightclub in Ripley, the victim pushed Jack Locke’s then partner. CCTV showed Locke then repeatedly punched the victim to the head. The victim did not fight back and tried to move away. He was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where scans revealed bleeding to his forehead and two collapsed lungs; a neurologist described the injuries as severe.
Pleaded guilty to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. At the time of the assault, Locke was seven months into a suspended sentence for a previous grievous bodily harm offence. Judge Shaun Smith KC said the defendant ‘could not complain’ if he had been sent to prison, describing it as a ‘nasty attack’.

James Conquest's home in Lumsdale Crescent, Matlock, Derbyshire, was searched by police on December 12, 2019, finding 848 category A, 869 category B, and 4,107 category C indecent images on his phone, plus prohibited and extreme images. On September 27, 2021, while on bail, another 524 images found on laptop and 36 distributed to others. On March 3, 2022, 29 more images on phone. Offences committed over three years, including extreme pornographic images involving humans and animals.
Sentenced to concurrent 45-month sentences for counts of making indecent category A images of children, distributing indecent category A images and possessing extreme pornographic images; concurrent 12-month sentences for other counts including making category B and C images and possessing prohibited images; concurrent 24-month sentence for a third count of making indecent category A images. Placed on Sex Offenders Register and subject to Sexual Harm Prevention Order indefinitely. Devices to be destroyed. £170 victim surcharge.

James Land, a former Derbyshire police community support officer in the cyber crime unit, secretly filmed children aged as young as three naked in changing rooms at Queen's Park Leisure Centre in Chesterfield in 2015, making a 4-minute 17-second video and screenshots. He collected indecent images of children for almost 20 years, including category A images typically showing adults raping and abusing children, as well as possessing girls' knickers aged 13 and secretly videoing an adult woman in sexual activity without consent. Devices seized from his home in a May 2021 raid included his police laptop with these materials. Five children identified, two unidentified; parents reported distress and loss of trust in police.
Pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity to voyeurism and possessing 365 category A, 262 category B, 686 category C indecent images, and 179 prohibited images of children. No previous convictions. Judge Nirmal Shant QC noted aggravating features of 19 years of activity and targeting very young children. Also received 10-year sexual harm prevention order and 10 years on sex offender register.

Simon Clague, a former teacher at Repton School, sexually abused three girls under 16 in the 1990s. He groomed and had sexual relations with them, including one aged 13 whom he befriended, gave gifts, wrote letters to, and abused in his bedroom. The second victim was manipulated into a sexual relationship starting at age 14. The third began a relationship with him in 1994 on a hockey tour. Victims described grooming, manipulation, and lifelong damage; school allegedly ignored complaints.
Pleaded guilty to a number of charges. No previous convictions. Will serve two-thirds behind bars, released on licence, on sex offender register for life, barred from working with children.
Simon Sowden

In the early hours of a day in April 2019, Simon Sowden met a young woman in a pub in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. They drank heavily and took cocaine. He took advantage of her when she was paralytic through drink and drugs and unable to consent, taking her back to his flat on Chatsworth Road under the guise of protecting her. He raped her, assaulted her by penetration, and sexually assaulted her. She recalled being touched sexually, feeling him inside her, then grabbed her things from the bathroom and left, later seen on CCTV trying to flag down an ambulance. She rushed home, told her mother, and police were called. Sowden was arrested at around 9.45am in a van in Chesterfield and answered 'no comment' in interviews.
Pleaded guilty to rape, assault by penetration and sexual assault on the day his trial was due to begin. Judge told him what he did was 'a horrific incident'. Victim showed courage by attending court with family.
Shaun Turton
Making and distributing indecent images of children *

Shaun Turton, 55, of Nottingham Road, Ilkeston, was found in possession of more than 43,000 indecent images of children following a police raid on 10 January 2025. Some of the material included videos showing the sexual abuse of babies. Turton also shared the illegal images with others online. He struggled with alcoholism and cocaine use after his marriage breakdown.
Pleaded guilty to making and distributing indecent images of children. Former Royal Navy serviceman; no previous convictions. Judge Straw stated his past military service carried no weight in mitigation. Turton maintained he had no sexual interest in children, showing a lack of insight. Also handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Siah Riley, 36, from Walbrook Road, Derby, pretended to be a teenager ('Josh King' and 'Kim') on Snapchat to target 152 children aged 9-16 between 2021 and 2023, securing over 2,700 sexual images and videos. He blackmailed 23 victims by threatening to share material on social media and the dark web. Arrested November 2023 and re-arrested February 2025 with devices seized breaching Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Admitted 164 offences including causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, sexual communication with a child, and 23 counts of blackmail. Prior conviction for rape in 2013. Judge Shaun Smith KC described persistent predatory behaviour and complete disregard for victims' wellbeing.

On October 8 last year, at a house in Belper, McClean, under the influence of Ketamine, became paranoid and aggressive. He pulled his partner downstairs, strangled her causing ringing in her ears and brief loss of consciousness. A neighbour heard threats to kill her and called police. Sudesh Kumar raped a young woman in his car while taking her home from a house party in Sunny Hill, Derby, in the early hours of 4 August 2018, after they had been drinking at the Pear Tree Inn where he worked as a manager. The victim, who had consumed a lot of alcohol, could not remember the attack. She woke up feeling something was wrong, told her mother, who called the police. Forensic evidence linked Kumar via semen on the victim's tampon. He was convicted after an eight-hour jury deliberation.

Tommy Turner, a 64-year-old homeless man, stabbed murder victim Mandy Riley, 47, 11 times in the neck at her home in Ashe Place, Normanton, Derby, around 6.30pm on June 4, 2025. He had been released from prison only days earlier. Turner stole cash from her handbag and spent it on crack cocaine and alcohol, watching her die. Mandy never met her first grandson. Her daughter, Annie Tinisha Sendell, described being in a loop of pain and shock.
Convicted of murder after a two-week trial. Judge James House KC highlighted the ferocity of the attack, targeting the neck, and described the killing as robbery.

William Zygmuntowski entered the One Stop store on Charlotte Street, Ilkeston, on 1 May with his face covered and carrying a knife. He went behind the counter, pushed a shop worker aside, and used the knife to separate the cash drawer from the till before leaving with it. Customers were present. The worker feared being stabbed and was unable to return to work for two days.
