He attended a pre‑meeting in Brunswick Street and was captured on drone footage wearing a face covering and with his hood up. He was seen moving towards a hedge between two fields; police later found a shoulder bag containing a loaded semi‑automatic pistol in that area, and his DNA was on both the pistol and the bag. During the violent disorder he was shot in the groin and the bullet was later removed in surgery.

Gary Stevens, 55, was in charge of an aggressive 14-month-old Cane Corso dog that mauled his 51-year-old brother, Wayne Stevens, to death at their home in Cameron Road, Normanton, Derby, on April 22, 2023. Stevens was drunk at the time and failed to control the dog, which caused multiple, massive, and horrific injuries to Wayne near the foot of a stairway. Stevens had previously been aware of the dog's aggressive behaviour, including attacks on others, and had allowed it to roam freely despite knowing the risks.
Pleaded guilty to being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death. Judge noted that Stevens knew of the dog's dangers, was influenced by alcohol, and showed genuine remorse. He was also given a lifetime ban from keeping a dog.

Bosita was caught when colleagues reviewed CCTV for an unrelated matter and discovered footage of her pushing a resident into a chair.

Zac Newman, 27, drove a three-tonne van into a crowd of pedestrians in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, on December 16, 2023, after drinking alcohol and taking cocaine. This act killed Sam Wilson, 26, and injured two others, Sean Cardwell and Daniel Rowley, in what was described as a deliberate revenge attack following an altercation earlier that night.

Mark Bagguley, 49, flew a drone dangerously close to the wing of a Hawker Hurricane aircraft during a flypast at Buxton, Derbyshire's annual carnival on July 2023. The aircraft, the last one built, was flying at 365ft and up to 230mph. A no-fly restriction was in place, but Bagguley flew the drone out of visual line of sight, endangering the plane. He was caught after a photographer spotted the drone in images and reported it to the Civil Aviation Authority. Bagguley checked the Dronesafe app earlier but claimed internet issues prevented a later check; he believed he had time before restrictions started. Upon seeing the plane, he halted the drone. No harm or damage occurred, but the incident risked fatalities.
Pleaded guilty in January. No prior related convictions. Judge described actions as 'mind-blowingly reckless'. Ordered to pay £450 costs and £154 victim surcharge.

He was arrested shortly after admitting the rape and charged with rape and two counts of sexual assault by penetration.

Between March 26 and November 21, 2020, Christopher Thomas Binns downloaded over 35,000 indecent images of children, including 104 category A (most serious), 411 category B, and 34,946 category C images, plus three prohibited images and moving images, onto multiple devices including a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad, and hard drives. The National Crime Agency received information in October 2020 about uploads from his email, leading to a warrant executed at his address in Bole Hill, Calow, Derbyshire, where 39 devices were seized. Some devices were sold by his partner and also contained images. He claimed the downloads occurred under the influence of an overdose of ADHD prescription drugs inducing OCD, and stated he had no sexual interest in children, supported by a polygraph.
Pleaded guilty to five counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing a prohibited image. No previous convictions. Subject to a sexual harm prevention order and required to sign the sex offender register, both for 10 years. Judge noted the offending occurred under the influence of medication and Covid circumstances, and deemed him not a risk to the public.

Vasile Culea, a 34-year-old Romanian national, burgled the home of elderly couple Freda and Kenneth Walker in Langwith Junction, Derbyshire, on 14 January 2024, after overhearing in a Polish shop that they had £30,000 hidden there. He hid in the utility room until they returned, then attacked them, hog-tying their hands and feet, beating them, gagging Freda, and putting a bag over her head while searching for money. He stole £300 from a handbag. Freda Walker, 79, suffered fatal brain injuries and died within an hour; her body was found the next day. Kenneth Walker, 88, sustained brain injuries and lacerations but passed away months later from unrelated causes. Culea claimed he slipped and accidentally injured her, but was convicted of murder and wounding with intent after a unanimous jury verdict.

Darren Hall murdered his ex-partner Sarah Henshaw, 31, by attacking her during an argument at her home in Norman Street, Ilkeston, on June 20, 2023. He drove her body 20 miles and dumped it in woodland near a lay-by on the westbound A617 near Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Hall used Ms Henshaw's phone to send texts suggesting she was alive, disposed of her belongings, and lied to police. The judge determined he likely strangled her and acted to cover up the crime.

The body remained hidden until August 2020 when it was discovered at Budget Skips Services Ltd in Exhall, Warwickshire. Johnson, overcome with grief and viewing Wainwright as a father figure, failed to inform authorities, lied to relatives about the funeral, and continued using Wainwright's bank card to withdraw £17,000 and transfer £2,475 to his own account from September 2018 to May 2020 under an informal agreement. A post-mortem showed blunt force trauma but could not confirm the cause of death. The flat in Cleveland Tower, Holloway Head, Birmingham, was boarded up in December 2019 after Johnson's unrelated arrest, leading to the eventual discovery due to a strong smell.

Damien Bendall, a 32-year-old former cage fighter, killed his pregnant partner Terri Harris and three children—Lacey Bennett (11), John Bennett (13), and Connie Gent (11)—with a claw hammer at the family home in Killamarsh, Derbyshire, on 18 September 2021. He attacked the victims in different rooms, causing fatal skull injuries and defensive wounds. After striking Lacey unconscious but alive, he carried her to a bedroom, positioned a mirror, and raped her as she died. That afternoon, the children had been selling sweets for charity; Connie had extended a sleepover, unknowingly placing her in the home. Following the murders, Bendall exchanged a victim's Xbox for drugs in Sheffield and later told a taxi driver he had been 'just chilling with the family'. He was arrested outside the house after his mother called 999, and body‑worn video captured him calmly admitting the killings. Police found the bodies and an officer noted, 'They're all gone.' At the police station, Bendall remarked on the scale of the crime. He was on a suspended sentence for arson at the time.
Pleaded guilty to murders after initial manslaughter plea and admitted rape. Judge described attacks as 'brutal, vicious and cruel' on a defenceless woman and three young children. He was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on 1 September 2023 to 28 months' imprisonment, resulting in an effective term of two years and two months.

David Alexander Murphy, a 40-year-old registered sex offender from Derby, groomed an 11-year-old boy online before driving to a village in Suffolk to meet and sexually assault him in June 2021. He offered the boy money to facilitate the meeting. He pleaded guilty at Derby Crown Court to inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity, meeting a boy under 16 following sexual grooming, three counts of breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and three counts of failing to comply with the sex offenders' register requirements. Detectives found a passport and bank card in the alias 'McClean' and two SIM cards hidden in an Oxo cube box. The boy described the car with a logo, which was traced to a car club in Derby.

She lived far beyond her means, spending over £28,000 on Amazon, £27,000 on the national and postcode lotteries, £87,000 at Next, and on other high value purchases including a Harley Davidson.

Alexander Mellors

Police raided Alexander Mellors' home on Victoria Road, Sandiacre, Derby, on December 3, 2021, seizing a USB stick, Apple phone, PC tower, Xbox, and HP laptop. Devices contained 304 category A images and 25 movies, 332 category B images and seven films, 999 category C images and seven movies, and 191 prohibited images of children. Mellors admitted a sexual interest in children since age 12.
Pleaded guilty to possession of prohibited images of children and three counts of possessing indecent images of children. Judge Shaun Smith QC noted his lack of friends, peer group issues, and good character. Five-year sexual harm prevention order and five years on sex offender register.
Andrew Ditchfield
Rape and sexual assault *

Andrew Ditchfield committed dozens of sex offences including rapes, attempted rape, indecent assault, attempted buggery, indecency with a child, sexual activity with a child and sexual assault against 14 known victims, primarily vulnerable teenage boys, in Chaddesden, Littleover, Sinfin, Alvaston (Derbyshire) in the 1990s and early 2000s, and later in Lincolnshire. He groomed victims using alcohol, drugs, pornography, a souped-up car, and posed as a social worker or foster carer, even privately adopting one victim with fake paperwork. Arrested in 2017.
Found guilty by jury of 43 offences after denying them. Described as a manipulative and predatory paedophile. Sexual Harm Prevention Order imposed.
Antonio Olivieri

Antonio Olivieri joined Benjamin Hughes and Jamille Marsh for armed robberies using stolen shotguns across Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire in January 2020. They broke into the Bonnie Prince pub in Chellaston, the Tap House in Annwell, the Overseal Post Office near Swadlincote, an elderly widow's flat in Rolleston on Dove, Cheadle Post Office, Hollington post office, and four premises in Hixon.
Pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit burglary and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery. Sentence reduced from 19 years following guilty plea.
Anthony Langham

Anthony Langham, 61, of Pasture Road, Stapleford, Nottingham, targeted a teenage girl under 16 from the Ilkeston/Derbyshire area. He befriended her, gained trust by supplying cigarettes after she started smoking, groomed her, kissed her, sexually assaulted her multiple times, attempted rape, raped her, and incited her to engage in sexual activity. He warned her not to tell anyone or they would both get in trouble. The victim disclosed the abuse years later in her 20s, giving evidence at trial.
Found guilty by jury of 10 offences after pleading not guilty. Judge Jonathan Bennett highlighted grooming via supplying cigarettes, threats to victim, and traumatic impact. Mitigating factors included COPD, depression, and family support. Must serve two-thirds before parole eligibility. Placed on Sex Offender Register for life.
Benjamin Hughes

Benjamin Hughes, along with Jamille Marsh, carried out armed robberies using stolen shotguns across Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire between August 2019 and January 2020. They stole shotguns from Twinlakes Theme Park near Melton Mowbray after tying up and threatening a security guard, starting a fire causing £2m damage. They robbed post offices including Stretton, Overseal, Cheadle, Hollington; a Domino’s pizza shop in Hilton; pubs like Bonnie Prince in Chellaston and Tap House in Annwell; and homes including an elderly widow's flat in Rolleston on Dove and premises in Hixon. In Stretton, they hit the postmaster with a crowbar, fired a shotgun into a wall, tied up the family and threatened him.
Pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, one count of false imprisonment and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Sentence reduced from 28 years following guilty plea.
Billy Bradshaw
Indecent assault of a girl under 16 *

Billy Bradshaw sexually abused five underage girls over a decade, starting when he was a teenager. The offences were exposed in 2019 when two victims reported assaults to police, leading three more to come forward. Victims suffered severe psychological harm including PTSD, depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicide attempts. He denied the charges, forcing victims to testify, but was convicted by jury in 90 minutes.
Found guilty after trial of three counts of indecent assault of a girl under 16, three counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, one count of sexual assault of a child under 13 and one count of causing/inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. Christopher Dixon
Possession with intent to supply Class A drugs *

Christopher Dixon hid cocaine in a Kinder Surprise egg holder concealed in his underwear. Police found halved Kinder egg holders and cash in his vehicle on January 29, 2024, in Marley Way, Drakelow. Further searches revealed thousands of pounds at his home in Chatham Drive, Drakelow, and evidence of drug dealing on his phone. Financial records showed £300,000 flowing through his and an associate's accounts despite no jobs and claiming benefits. In January 2026, a storage unit in Swadlincote linked to him contained cocaine worth £12,000, a zombie knife, and a zombie machete. He fled but was arrested in a hotel in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a private place.
Christopher Lilley
Making indecent photographs and videos of children *

Christopher Lilley, a 33-year-old police constable with Nottinghamshire Police, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for possessing and creating indecent images of children. Between November 1998 and July 1999, he paid £156 to access multiple American websites hosting child sexual abuse material. He downloaded 1,005 indecent photographs and 26 video clips, and superimposed the heads of children he knew onto naked images. The case came to light after intelligence from the FBI, leading to his arrest in September 2002. He confessed during interview, saying, 'It's because I am sad, sick and stupid.'
Pleaded guilty to eight counts of making indecent photographs of children and six counts of making indecent videos. He was a serving police officer, which the judge highlighted as a betrayal of public trust.
Luke Ringer
Possession of indecent images of children *

Luke Ringer, of Kedleston Street, Derby, admitted to touching himself sexually while viewing images and films of babies and pre-pubescent children being abused for more than seven years. Police raided his home on July 8, 2020, seizing a mobile phone and computer tower containing almost 3,000 indecent images: 329 category A stills and 19 movies, 289 category B pictures and 2 films, 751 category C photographs, 1,700 prohibited animated images of children, and 34 stills of bestiality. Web searches indicated searches for indecent images of children.
Pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images of children, extreme pornographic images and prohibited indecent images. No previous convictions. Ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work, pay £300 costs, attend a 43-day sex offender programme and 45 rehabilitation sessions. 10-year sexual harm prevention order and placed on sex offender register for 10 years. Judge Martin Hurst commented on the real harm to children in the images.
Keira Kendall

Keira Kendall, 20, of Coniston Road, Newbold, threw a beer bottle during an argument with a man at The Association nightclub on Corporation Street in the early hours of February 25, 2023. A doorman was hit in the face with shards of glass when he intervened, and a passing woman was also struck, sustaining a one-inch cut under her eye. Kendall was under supervision for a previous 24-week suspended sentence for a similar wounding offence. She admitted wounding and breaching the suspended sentence.
Admitted wounding and breaching a suspended sentence. Had completed all probation work from previous order. Showed good prospects of rehabilitation. Ordered to pay £700 compensation to each victim and fined £150.
