He sent her images of a male exposing his penis, and she reciprocated with a photo of herself in underwear, to which he said he would masturbate over it. After the victim's mother raised concerns about her secretive and depressed demeanour and police became involved, Farooq continued messaging under his real name, fabricating a story about 'Kai' being assaulted and hospitalised to manipulate her. He sent further sexualised messages, leaving the victim upset and sobbing. He was arrested at his workplace in Keighley in June 2023, where multiple phones were seized. In interview he admitted messaging but denied sexual interest in children, claiming the victim manipulated him. While on bail, he attempted to influence the victim through friends to drop the case. The victim suffered significant anxiety and self-harm. Farooq had no prior convictions.

Pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communications with a child. Judge Ahmed Nadim stated: 'I find it concerning the suggestion that the responsibility for what occurred can be shifted onto the complainant. Children do not manipulate adults into committing sexual offences. The responsibility lies solely with the adult who chooses to engage in such communication. You were that adult.' Haziq Mahmood, a 22-year-old aspiring mixed martial arts fighter from Leeds, arranged to meet a teenager via Snapchat. In the early hours, he had a friend drive them near his house, then he drove the victim alone to a secluded spot in Bradford where he raped her in the back of his car, filming the assault. The victim stated her life had profoundly changed, leaving her anxious and stressed. Mahmood was convicted of rape and three counts of sexual activity with a child.

Found guilty by a jury. No prior convictions. The judge described the offence as planned and noted the victim was frightened. Must register as a sex offender for life.

Hiwr Ali Bayeze, 37, of Little Horton Lane, Bradford, engaged in extensive grooming of a decoy he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. He initiated contact on 9 February 2023 with a social media account run by a proactive group, and over two weeks exchanged more than 1,000 pages of messages in which the decoy repeatedly stated her age as 14. He asked if she was a virgin, expressed sexual fantasies, arranged to meet, and demanded photographs, calling her ‘sexy’ and professing love. When the decoy refused to send indecent images, he threatened: ‘I’ll kill you if you say no.’ He pleaded guilty to four child sex offences. The court considered his health issues and background but highlighted his lack of remorse and significant risk to children. He was sentenced to 42 months’ custody at Bradford Crown Court.

Pleaded guilty to four offences: attempted sexual communication with a child, attempt to cause or incite a child to engage in sexual activity, attempt to arrange the commission of a child sex offence, and attempt to meet a child following grooming. Mr Recorder Simon Jackson KC described him as extremely manipulative and threatening, noting he showed no remorse and presented a significant risk of future harm to children. Mitigation included chronic health issues requiring daily pain medication and his background coming to the UK from Iraq after his father's death. Ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

The gang used violence, drugs, and alcohol to exploit the girls' vulnerability. The abuse came to light in 2014 when one victim contacted police after viewing a BBC report on Rotherham abuses. Sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment by Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC.

Possessing indecent images of children *

Ivan Robertshaw, a 23-year-old chef from Ingleton, North Yorkshire, was found in possession of 60 indecent images of children, including videos of toddlers as young as 12 months, which he downloaded and shared over a six-year period. He was reported to police in 2022 after videos depicting child sexual abuse were discovered on his mobile phone. The images were categorised as A, B, and C, with Category A being the most severe. Some images involved children in distress. His internet history showed searches for illegal child abuse material, and he shared the content with a network of other individuals. Robertshaw provided no comment in his police interview but later pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children. He had no previous convictions.

John Briggs, a former president at a Marine Society & Sea Cadets branch and MBE recipient, indecently assaulted young boys aged 10 to 15 between 1969 and 1993. Two victims were boys he gave piano lessons to at his home, and others were members of Keighley Sea Cadets. He denied the allegations, claiming the victims were vindictive.

Pleaded not guilty but found guilty. Claimed victims made up allegations. In mitigation, said he had been happily married for 25 years but developed homosexual tendencies.
