Discovered on 9 April 2024, the set-up produced fake Bank of England polymer £20 notes potentially worth up to £2.7 million using industrial printing machines, drying equipment, foil application materials, cutting machinery, printing dyes, and scanners with original notes.
Repeat offender and professional counterfeiter. Charged with conspiracy to produce counterfeit currency.

Akash Sondhi, 27, hacked into 573 Snapchat accounts of girls and women aged between 16 and 25 between 2015 and 2020. He threatened to expose existing intimate images to their friends and family unless they sent him more intimate photos. Victims were from across the UK, including seven on Merseyside, and other countries. His address in Hedingham Road, Chafford Hundred, Grays, Essex, RM16 was raided by Essex Police's Cyber Crime Unit on March 19, 2020.
Admitted a total of 65 offences including hacking, blackmail, and voyeurism.
Barry Mills
Possession of indecent images of children *

Barry Mills, 60, was arrested on 16 December 2023 on a boat off Canvey Island. Police discovered over 500 indecent images of children, including more than 100 category A images depicting severe abuse, 98 category B, and over 500 category C, stored on a Samsung phone and tablet. A hard copy photograph was found in a public toilet. Mills had 75 previous convictions, many for sexual offences dating back to 1985. He was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on 2 February 2024.
Recorder Emma Nash noted poor compliance with prior supervision and a high risk of sexual offending. Mills was made subject to a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He showed no emotion as the sentence was delivered.

As part of a policing operation in Southend launched in October, warrants executed in Great Wakering and Shoebury on 4 November uncovered Class A drugs, cash, and weapons. Callum Brighting, 22, was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the supply of Class A drugs and later sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on 24 February.
Admitted being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and possession of criminal property.

Carl Spencer, 31, of Havelock Road, Bromley, London, BR2, engaged in conversations with several girls aged between 12 and 13 on a messaging app. On each occasion, the conversation became sexual in nature, leading to Spencer sending explicit images and videos of himself to the girls. Officers found more than 200 indecent images and videos of children on his phone and Dropbox account. He was arrested by Essex police at an address in Southend on April 14, 2018.
Pleaded guilty to 23 child sex offences, including eight counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, nine counts of distributing indecent images of children and three counts of possessing indecent images of children. Also charged with two counts of causing a child to watch or look at an image of sexual activity, and one count of attempting to cause or incite a girl to engage in sexual activity.
Keith Noble

Keith Noble committed sex offences against two female victims who were juveniles between 1998 and 2003, including attempted rape and indecent assault. He also accessed, made, possessed, distributed indecent images of children, extreme pornographic images, and covertly filmed and distributed images of a victim doing a private act. Initially arrested in 2002 but no charges due to insufficient evidence. Arrested again in 2014 for images, charged with 14 offences in 2015 which he admitted. Additional charges in February 2016.
Pleaded guilty to three offences of indecent assault on October 24. Previously admitted attempted rape, indecent assault, making indecent images of children, possession of extreme pornographic images, distribution of indecent images, and recording a person doing a private act. Sentenced for all 19 offences.

Jordan Hubbock, a convicted rapist released on licence in 2021 after serving a sentence for raping three people (one a child under 16) between 2011 and 2013, cut off his electronic tag and went to ground in Essex for a month starting February 2021. He failed to notify police of using the Kik app under a different name and a credit card. He was located on March 18, 2021, hiding behind a sunbed.

Junior Brown, 25, of Lower Road, Belvedere, was working for a south Essex drugs line. Police found him at a known drug user's property with crack, heroin, cash, and phones. Phone analysis showed messages about bagging up Class A drugs. After bail, he was caught again months later with another gang. The operation sent around 12,000 marketing messages between April 2024 and January 2025.
Caught with 32 wraps of crack cocaine, 22 wraps of heroin, and £460 cash. Granted bail but caught again working for a different gang. Part of a Class A drug operation sending 12,000 bulk marketing messages.
Justin Jackson
Assault on police officers *

Justin Jackson, 28, attacked eight Essex police officers with petrol on Sunday 5 May. The incident followed a dangerous motorbike pursuit on Canvey Island, during which the rider performed wheelies and drove the wrong way. After a helicopter tracked the motorbike back to Basildon and a teenage rider was arrested, Jackson sprinted at officers from behind, dousing them in petrol from a red watering can. Two officers required hospital treatment for burns and eye injuries; six others were treated at the scene. All officers returned to duty the same day. Superintendant Jonathan Baldwin described the lasting psychological impact. Jackson was later sentenced at Basildon Crown Court.

On 28 June 2021, Robin Ibrahim arranged to meet his ex-girlfriend outside a bank in High Street, Hornchurch, claiming he would repay money he owed her. After missing the bank's opening time, they walked to a nearby car park in Billet Lane. There, Ibrahim pulled a knife from his bag and attacked the victim as she fell beside her car, stabbing her 18 times. Members of the public, including the victim's sister, intervened and detained him until police arrived. The victim underwent emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries and was later discharged, continuing her recovery. Detectives obtained CCTV evidence of the attack and Ibrahim's journey to and from the scene. He was charged on 30 June 2021 and pleaded guilty on 22 September 2022.

Stephen Flynn, a 53-year-old man formerly from Lincolnshire, was convicted and sentenced at Basildon Crown Court for committing multiple sexual offences against a young girl in South Essex. The offences occurred over several months in 2016 and included seven counts of child sexual abuse and one count of child cruelty. During a four-day trial in April 2022, Flynn was found guilty after attempting to manipulate and disrupt the court proceedings. Judge Samantha Leigh described him as a 'violent, nasty and controlling' sexual predator and noted his refusal to supply a defence case statement and his failure to attend sentencing via video link from prison, interpreting these actions as deliberate efforts to control the trial and evade justice. Flynn was ultimately jailed for 17 years, including an extended licence period, ensuring he would serve at least 12 years behind bars. Additionally, he received a 20-year restraining order against his victim.

Steven Field, a man from Southend, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court for a series of child sex offences. Essex Police raided his home after intelligence about illegal downloads, uncovering more than 125,000 indecent images of children. Many of these images had been taken by Field himself years earlier, all featuring the same child. The girl had never disclosed the abuse until the police investigation. The court heard the victim's mother's profound distress. Field's original sentence of nine years was reduced to seven years due to his autism diagnosis.

After the victim handed over the cash, Small returned days later demanding more money and threatened to punch him. He reported the matter to Essex Police. Small pleaded guilty to one charge of blackmail. She had 68 previous convictions, including a 21-month prison term in 2022 for possessing a bladed article and making threats. Small blamed the blackmail on her severe alcohol addiction.
