Affray, threats to kill, and non-fatal strangulation *
Sentence
21 months' imprisonment suspended for 2 years
On 17 February 2024, Sam Minter engaged in affray by pinning an unknown male to the floor and repeatedly punching him in the head, captured on CCTV. After fleeing with his stepson Taylor Oliver, police attempted to detain them. Minter threatened to kill Officer 1 with a pen while the officer was vulnerable on the floor after being assaulted by Oliver. Later, while being pursued and detained by Officer 2, Minter placed the officer in a chokehold and punched him. Minter was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. Both officers suffered significant psychological impacts, including fear, sleep disturbances, and reduced work capacity, as detailed in victim personal statements. Minter and Oliver admitted the offences in interviews and apologised.
