On October 25, 2023, Sola Silas was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa towards Knott End when he steered onto the wrong side of the road for unknown reasons, colliding with Ian Joseph Hall's Yamaha FZS600 motorcycle. Hall, who was riding at 20mph through the village, suffered severe injuries, fell into a coma, and died on October 30, 2023, at Royal Preston Hospital. The incident caused immense distress to Hall's family, with Silas's delays in pleading guilty adding to their suffering.
Originally pleaded not guilty at Lancaster Magistrates' Court but changed plea at Preston Crown Court. Judge Graham Knowles sentenced him, and he showed little remorse for the incident.
