David Crowther, an 83-year-old former teacher, sexually assaulted an 11-year-old boy in Leeds in 1972. He was invited to the victim’s family home by the boy’s parents, who hoped their son would be accepted into the schools where Crowther taught. While the parents were downstairs, Crowther took the boy alone into his bedroom and indecently assaulted him. The victim remained silent for decades, only reporting the abuse in 2021 after reading news that Crowther had been jailed for abusing other boys in the 1980s. Crowther was convicted after a trial of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency and two counts of indecent assault. He received a 28-month custodial sentence. The judge commended the victim’s courage. Crowther died on 31 January 2025, just 17 days after beginning his sentence at HMP Leeds, from sepsis of unknown cause.

When she refused, citing no funds available, he entered the property, asked for a glass of water, and while she was occupied, stole a packet of crisps from her home. He gave a false name, Michael Clark, and was caught on CCTV. Jarrett was arrested shortly after, tested positive for cocaine, and claimed the crisps were given to him. The incident was driven by his need to repay debts to drug dealers amid his crack cocaine addiction, which relapsed after release from prison into a drug-dealing environment.
