Mark Platt was arrested by officers from GMP in the early hours of Sunday 4 February 2024 in relation to an unrelated matter. Officers recovered a mobile phone along with the keys to an address on Fieldfare, Winsford. A search at the address discovered a large cannabis farm containing approximately 218 plants at various stages of growth. He had pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine) and production of class B drugs (cannabis).
The 55-year-old, of no fixed abode, had previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine) and production of class B drugs (cannabis).

He sent inappropriate messages. One victim's parents discovered the messages and alerted police, leading to an investigation that identified two further victims. Whittaker was arrested following the enquiries.

Lee Jones, of Cross Flatts Street, Beeston, Leeds, attacked a woman twice in Knutsford, Cheshire. He strangled her, held her prisoner, motioned to a knife on the floor and made threats against her family. The victim messaged family members who called the police; Jones was arrested on February 26, 2021. He initially claimed consensual sex but later pleaded guilty on March 1, 2022.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, sexual assault by penetration, false imprisonment and causing actual bodily harm. Subject to a sexual harm prevention order and must sign the sex offenders' register for life.

He was arrested in December after Sussex Police executed a warrant at an address in Crawley. The mobile phones were seized and examined, clearly showing his criminal activity. He admitted the offences and was jailed.

Joseph Fenwick, aged 31, sexually assaulted a child under 13 by touching them inappropriately over clothing and warning them to keep it secret, saying 'something bad would happen' if they told. The offence occurred in Runcorn. The victim disclosed to their mother, leading to police involvement. Fenwick initially admitted to police that he 'hated' himself but later denied allegations, claiming poor memory and accusing the victim and mother of lying. After a three-day trial, the jury convicted Fenwick. The victim's mother said the defendant 'did the worst thing imaginable' and that the family is working to rebuild their lives. Judge Mark Ford noted that forcing the victim to testify exacerbated the trauma. Fenwick had a prior conviction for wounding in 2010, resulting in a community order.

He messaged her despite knowing her age, requested images, sent an image of his erect penis, and promised gifts. They met June 1 in Nantwich park, kissed, then had sex on June 2 and 3 near a lake. Contacted her again August 29 via Snapchat and WhatsApp, met August 31 in Crewe for sex. Breached existing SHPO prohibiting internet contact with children under 16. Victim suffered panic attacks.
Pleaded guilty to sexual activity and sexual communication with a child and breaches of a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). Previously convicted of sexual offences in March 2020 and subject to a five-year SHPO. Diagnosed with autism. Also given a 12-year SHPO and 12-year restraining order.

Jonathan Price, a 35-year-old mechanic, was first arrested in December 2022 and found in possession of indecent images of children, extreme pornography, and cocaine. Bail conditions were imposed, but he continued to download and distribute sexual images of children and also downloaded extreme pornographic images. When officers went to arrest him again in August 2023, he tried to hide a mobile phone and resisted arrest. He was found intoxicated on cocaine. At interview, he claimed the phones belonged to friends and made bizarre claims about being threatened to hold devices for other paedophiles. Police evidence showed he had downloaded indecent images and had used the phones for personal purposes, including saving his own contacts. He also attempted to engage in sexual communication with children online. In total he was convicted of six counts of distributing indecent images of children, two counts of possession of extreme pornographic images depicting sex with animals, three counts of making indecent images of children, three counts of attempting to communicate with children under 16 for sexual gratification, and two counts of possession of cocaine.
Pleaded guilty to all 16 offences. Also ordered to register as a sex offender and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order. Had previously been arrested in December 2022 for possession of indecent images of children, extreme pornography, and cocaine, then continued to offend while on bail, leading to a second arrest in August 2023.

Police discovered on his Samsung phone and Kindle Fire tablet: 22 Category A videos and 8 images, 5 Category B videos and 36 images, 9 Category C videos and 35 images, 7 extreme pornographic videos and 10 images, 1 prohibited video and 84 images, including abuse of a baby aged 18 months, young girls aged 4-5, and bestiality.
Pleaded guilty at first opportunity to multiple counts including making indecent images of children. Eight prior convictions for 25 offences including multiple SOPO breaches. Kelly Munn was caught transporting class A drugs from Liverpool into Northwich. On Monday 5 July officers from Northwich Local Policing Unit stopped a white Kia Rio on the A556 near Northwich. Munn, who was driving the vehicle, was initially arrested on suspicion of a driving offence. Officers discovered she was concealing a large quantity of illegal drugs: 186 wraps of heroin and 311 wraps of crack cocaine, with a total value of almost £5,000. She had been staying at a hotel in Northwich while transporting the drugs.

Kerien Rudland groomed a 13-year-old Brighton girl online via Facebook, met her in Brighton on 10 February 2019, and engaged in penetrative sexual activity with her on the beach in Brighton and on a train back to London. Separately, from his family address in Hull, he engaged online with a decoy pretending to be a 13-year-old girl, using similar language. Arrested by Humberside Police in August 2018 for the decoy offences and by Sussex Police after locating the girl at his mother's address in London.

On 20 July 2023, Dillon Beeching drove a blue BMW deliberately across Frederick Road, Hastings, into the path of two teenage boys riding a stolen motorcycle, causing a head-on collision. Both boys suffered serious injuries, including one with life-changing injuries. Beeching and co-defendant Liam Hide then assaulted the injured boys; one rider had his helmet removed and was dragged across the road and further assaulted. The incident occurred after Hide had reported his motorcycle stolen and threatened to cause serious harm if it was not found. Beeching admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and actual bodily harm with intent.
Admitted the charges. Deliberately caused a head-on collision with two teenagers on a stolen motorcycle, then assaulted them as they lay injured. Took the law into his own hands instead of allowing police to investigate.

David Parry, of Boston Avenue, Runcorn, Cheshire, exchanged sexualised messages with an undercover police officer posing as 12-year-old girl 'Zoe' via Kik Messenger between October 8 and 20, 2021. He sent a sexual picture of himself in Cookie Monster pyjama bottoms, a video of himself performing a sex act, and asked for images from her. Police seized devices revealing 210 indecent images of children (48 Category A, 30 B, 132 C), including prohibited images, and evidence of prior distribution. Arrested November 10, 2021.

David Draycott

David Draycott, a 70-year-old resident of London Road, Davenham, in Cheshire, deliberately breached a sexual harm prevention order on 15 November 2023. The order, imposed after he was given a suspended sentence for possessing 50,000 child sex abuse images, banned him from remaining in any household where a child under 16 was present. Draycott attended a birthday party for a terminally ill friend at a neighbouring property, where two young children were present. He stayed for at least an hour, greeted the children, and did not inform the hosts of his sex offender status. He later misleadingly told his probation officer the children were teenagers. At Chester Crown Court on 17 December 2023, he pleaded guilty to the breach. His defence cited exceptional circumstances, but Judge Simon Berkson rejected this, stating Draycott could have left upon seeing the children. The judge characterised the breach as deliberate and serious, sentencing him to 12 months' imprisonment.
Pleaded guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order. He had previously received a suspended sentence for possessing 50,000 child sex abuse images. The judge rejected his defence of exceptional circumstances.

Indecent assault on a girl under 14 *

David Baldwin, a 74-year-old former DJ from Kingsley, Cheshire, carried out systematic sexual abuse on a girl under 14 in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The abuse came to light, and after a three-day trial at Chester Crown Court concluding on 22 September 2021, he was convicted on three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14. He was sentenced the following day.

On 15 October 2022, he approached another man in Broadfield Barton, demanded money, and threatened him with a knife when refused. On 17 October 2022, he threatened a 45-year-old woman at her home. He was identified on CCTV and later arrested.

Craig Crowther sexually assaulted a sleeping child, took indecent images including of the assault, shared them online with who he believed were other paedophiles, including undercover officers. Discussions in May and July 2020. Arrested July 2021 with 56 indecent images on his phone. Charged with three counts of assault of a child under 13 by touching, three counts of making indecent images of a child (A-C), two counts of taking indecent images (B and C), and two counts of distributing category C indecent images.
Pleaded guilty to all charges on February 11, 2022 at Chester Magistrates Court. Once released, on licence for four years, lifetime sexual harm prevention order, and on sex offenders register for life. Judge Patrick Thompson noted denial and unhealthy interest in young children.
Christopher Tucker
Fraud by false representation *

Christopher Tucker raised £190,000 from donors between 2017 and January 2019 for the Bexhill and Hastings Wildlife Sanctuary and Rescue. He claimed the money would buy out his ex-wife’s share in his semi-detached house where the sanctuary was based and secure the property in a trust or community interest company, assuring donors that funds would not benefit him personally. Instead, he used the money to take sole ownership of the property. Sussex Police received an allegation in November 2019 and an investigation revealed false representations made to witnesses, on social media, and on local radio. Financial records and Land Registry papers confirmed the fraud.
Also sentenced to a 10-week overnight curfew and 10 days of rehabilitation activity. Ordered to sign over half of the property to a local wildlife charity upon any future sale. Denied the offence but convicted by a jury at Brighton Crown Court after a five-day trial. Later pleaded guilty to contempt of court regarding social media posts. Judge David Rennie presided.
Claire Goodier
Possession of indecent images of sex act with a dog *

Claire Goodier, 60, travelled to Bournemouth between December 15 and 16, 2018, where she took part in a cocaine-fuelled group sex act with an Alsatian dog alongside other adults. She had fantasised about bestiality for years and was put in touch with others via people in Northwich. Police conducted a routine check at her home on Spencer Street, Northwich, Cheshire, on July 19, 2019, due to her being on the sex offenders register for life, and seized a laptop containing 31 indecent images of the sex act hidden in folders, along with internet searches for bestiality content. Full analysis was completed two years later. On arrest on June 17, 2021, another pen drive with the same images and 3.5 grams of cocaine were found in her handbag. At the time of the offence, she was in breach of a suspended sentence order imposed in May 2018 for failing to adhere to a sexual harm prevention order, and later failed to comply with another in November 2020.
Admitted the offence in an earlier hearing. Described as 'manipulative' and 'deceitful' by probation officer. Prior convictions in 2006 and 2009 for possessing indecent images of children, received suspended sentences. Ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and requirement to sign the Sex Offenders' Register. Judge Steven Everett called the crime 'despicable', 'disgusting' and 'depraved'. Also found in possession of 3.5 grams of cocaine.

Craig Yates, a 28-year-old from Washford Close, Congleton, took advantage of his position of trust as the victim's swimming instructor and manipulated his young victim aged 13-17. The offences occurred between 2017 and 2019 and consisted of two counts of causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possession of an indecent photograph/pseudo photograph of a child.

Dale Pendleton Briers, 32, systematically abused a girl from the age of 10 to 17, grooming her and subjecting her to sexual abuse while in a position of trust. The abuse began when the victim was 10 and escalated over years, pausing briefly when she was 12 before resuming at 13. The victim's mental health deteriorated, leading to counselling at 17, which gave her the resilience to confront Briers. He stopped but the psychological damage was profound. Years later, she reported to police. Briers originally denied the allegations, but a mobile phone examination uncovered searches related to extreme pornography and child sexual abuse. He later pleaded guilty to 19 offences.

Ashley Ashington, a 37-year-old man from Neston, Cheshire, groomed two children from Ellesmere Port via the Vinted second-hand clothing app between 26 January and 4 February 2024. He moved conversations to WhatsApp, falsely claimed to be in his early 20s, and repeatedly requested sexual images and videos from the victims, both under 16 years old. He graphically described sexual acts, including bondage and threesomes, and sent a video of himself ejaculating. He obtained the phone number of one child and continued the predatory behaviour until the younger victim told him to block their numbers. Police analysis of his seized phone revealed the extent of the sexual communications. At the time, Ashington was on licence and had breached a risk of sexual harm order. The victims suffered severe impacts, with one beginning to self-harm and both requiring private therapy. Ashington had five previous convictions for 36 offences, many involving sexual images of children.
Pleaded guilty to causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual communication with a child, and two counts of breaching a risk of sexual harm order. Judge described him as a 'highly dangerous sexual predator' with deviant tendencies. No personal mitigation beyond an autism diagnosis and his guilty plea. Previous convictions for similar offences. Albert Pentall
Death by dangerous driving *

89-year-old Albert Pentall was making the short journey home after an evening out with friends when his car collided with another vehicle as he made his way across a major junction. He was not concentrating and failed to notice the lights had turned red. The collision was substantial, with Mr Pentall’s vehicle travelling in the region of 40-45 mph. The victim’s car – travelling through the junction on green lights – was struck to the near side, causing her head injuries which proved fatal. Expert evidence established that Mr Pentall’s lights had changed to red (and been in full view) for approximately 9 seconds (and 150 metres) before he arrived at the junction.
Guilty plea. Case fell into the lowest end of the lowest range of the death by dangerous driving sentencing guidelines. Advanced age permitted suspension of sentence.
Alfie Parker
Possession with intent to supply cocaine and ketamine *

Alfie Parker, of Stamford Road, Blacon, was spotted acting suspiciously by officers on patrol in Blacon on April 17. He attempted to evade police by running onto a driveway and jumping over a garden fence but was found hiding between two wheelie bins. Officers located a bundle of cash and a glasses case containing individually wrapped bags of cocaine (valued at £3,520) and a small amount of ketamine (valued at £20).
Pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and ketamine. Ordered to pay £228 surcharge. Police Constable Giorgia Sharkey commented on the sentence.

Alexander Palin, a 30-year-old teaching assistant from Runcorn, sexually abused a vulnerable 16-year-old pupil at the school where he worked. The victim confided in her mother in November 2019 about meeting Palin outside school multiple times and engaging in sexual activity on several occasions in his car, parked in a secluded area of Wigg Island, between winter 2018 and summer 2019.
Found guilty of five counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17, being an adult abusing a position of trust. Ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register (until further order), added to the barring list, and issued with a banning notice preventing him from working with children.

Adam Connolly, of Frederick Street, Widnes, Cheshire, sexually assaulted two teenage girls: groped the first below her top whilst she slept (offence in Runcorn); covered the face of the second and ran his hand over her. He also filmed himself placing his hands around the throat of a third girl without her knowledge, making a Category A indecent video of a child. Phone contained pictures of victims. Prior denial of offences.
Pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and one count of making a Category A indecent video of a child. Consecutive sentences: 18 months for each sexual assault and 5 years for the indecent video. Indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restraining orders for two victims, placed on sex offenders register for life, victim surcharge. Two prior convictions for carrying weapons. Assessed as a danger to children under 18.

Raided by council officers, it had trailing cables, water damaged ceiling, poorly secured door, broken kitchen units, damp, and non-working gas boiler and cooker.
Company director of Ashford of Essex Ltd, found guilty of 25 offences relating to managing an HMO in unacceptable conditions and not co-operating with council investigation.

On 10 August 2007, Garry Newlove confronted a group of youths outside his home in Padgate, Warrington, after suspecting them of vandalising his wife's car. He was violently attacked and died in hospital on 12 August 2007. The attack was the culmination of persistent anti-social behaviour by local youth gangs.
Convicted of murder after trial. Trial judge recommended a minimum term of 17 years. Swellings later lost an appeal against conviction and sentence in November 2008.
